Hmmm I could pickup a used 1070 ti ASUS cerebrus for 650CAD.

Does the ASUS mine as well as the gigabyte ?

Anyone ever have issues getting a card fixed under warranty if you are second owner?

Not sure what to do...

Spending way over MSRP on GPU's for mining is always a bad idea. It makes your ROI timeframe much longer and once the new series of GPU'sis released, you will lose a bunch of money if you resell it. Since mining is currently not very profitable, I would look on eBay or locally to see if you can find a good deal at less than MSRP.

So do I buy a card and go for it? seems like most folks here seem to think it is a waste of cash at this point....

Bad idea but go ahead if you'd like to throw away your money.

I'd pick the Gigabyte windforce because its much cheaper and really doesn't matter in the end. When this GPU is reduced to gaming, differences in brand will matter very little.

How long do you think it would realistically take to make make back 800 CAD? I know there are lots of calculators out there but not sure which ones are hype and which ones I can trust?

Thanks.
this's a difficult question, the price of coins are drowning and GPU prices are terrible. some miners shut down a mining rig even sell it because of the electricity bill bigger than profit.

If your choice is a new card then I think GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1070 Ti GAMING 8GB is a good option
but, try to check some used cards locally with some active warranties - for example Asus have 3 years warranty,  so you can source asus strix cards with 2 years warranty left with much better price

Buying a brand new card for mining right now = bad time.

Right now is when many people are switching off their rigs and selling off cards due to low income. If you're going to buy anything, grab a used card off your local equivalent of craigslist, they are flooded with cheap cards over here.

Hello,

I am going to build a 1 card rig for now to try out mining. Looking to get some help from the experts on what to buy for the GPU.

I decided to go with the 1070ti due to the price difference vs the 1080ti.

Of these cards which do you recommend I go with (locally stocked):

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1070 Ti WINDFORCE 8GB (GV-N107TWF2-8GD)  $750 CAD
GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1070 Ti GAMING 8GB (GV-N107TGAMING-8GD)  $799 CAD
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti DUKE 8G $829 CAD
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti GAMING 8G $850 CAD

Thanks for any help you can give.
