Hi,

I am a newbie to mining. I want to know which Altcoin mining is still profitable if I am considering buying my own hardware. I am looking at Monero, Neo etc. I am planning to source the miner from China. Any recommended vendor would also be appreciated.

P.S: I am planning to mine as a hobby and not set up a farm.

There is no enough information in your post. Would you like to mine ASIC coins (Scrypt, x11, SHA256 and so on) or GPU based algos, or maybe you interest in CPU-only coins?

Sorry for being Vague, but as I said, I am a complete rookie.  Grin

I have no preference, as long as its profitable. Actually I would really appreciate if you can provide inputs for both CPU based coins as well as those with GPU based algos as well.

Mining altcoins is always profitable because of less difficulty level. I suggest to mine sgit and also linda coin. linda coin is again growing gradually and its been profitable if your miner is perfect. Always mine a coin afte calculating its profit first that after all expenses you should have a decent amount left.

Denarius (DNR) is a good project, was very profitable when it came out. Its a bit lower now because of the price decrease but still good

With newer generations like rx 4xx and rx 5xx you can mine ether + decred or some other dual mining coin.
They are also very power efficient.
With older cards you can mine zcash

Also, profitability calculators only make sense if you immediately buy BTC or $$$,
otherwise in the long run some non-obvious choices could be way more profitable

You can see profitability through coinwarz.  Profitability ranges day to day and is not static.

Ethereum, zcash is still profitable enough to mine with GPUs.
I dont recommend monero, even if you use Ryzen, which is known as very suitable for monero,
only makes about your electricity fee.

Ethash hashrate decrease issue on Rx series is going to be solved by driver update, I recommend classical GPU mining using Ethash and equihash algorithms.
