Answer: None.

Most of the Altcoins are still in Alpha stage and some are still just concept, I will advice you not too get emotional with any of these coins. Make your money and move away don't get me wrong because I have made money through ICOs

This is the correct answer.

Timing matters. Say you came into cryptocurrency in early 2014 lured by the surge in bitcoin, and decided to buy all the top ten alts. You would have ended up losing money, because all those alts were at all time highs - litcoin for example was at $40. So be careful, and take some profits when your coin is up. No-one ever got poor by taking profits.

Where is my ring of blades...
have you ever considered not doing it?
I mean why do you want to put yourself in such a position with such a risky investment plan? just invest in what has proven to be good in long term, meaning bitcoin and then try to find altcoins that are the current hype of the market and invest in those for a shorter period instead of yonks, whatever that means!
you will have a much simpler time.

This is not a love thing and don't get emotional with Altcoins has it has been proven time and time again that most of them where not sustainable, check most of the top 10 tokens last year were not in top 10 this year. DOge and NXT in particular.

Usually Bitcoins are bought as long term investment and altcoins are bought foi gaining quick profits. So dont buy altcoins as a long term investment. There is huge fluctuation in prices of altcoins. Just buy some altcoins like XMR, ETC and sell it when its price increases.

Which Altcoins should I hold onto for yonks ? Grin

Yonks meaning ages or a very long time Wink

Thanks in advance Smiley

For me it is a simple question of which coins are the easiest to gain regularly for free... and based on this I started collecting only btc, doge, ltc and eth. I still consider these my Big Four.

Without a doubt I only hold bitcoin seriously, but I still collect the other 3 whenever it is convenient. Basically it just means I check a few faucets daily. Hardly anything, perhaps 5 cents from each alt weekly but for 2 minutes a day I don't feel they are an utter waste of time!
Yes agree with you bitcoin is best always, yes if you have time it is good to get something for free, but faucet? Of course it is not good to me. Because there are many other ways to get free coins more than from the faucet. Now about the OP question Which Altcoins should I hold . I can't say 100% It is a good idea hold Altcoins but for myself, I have some LITECOINS and Monero (XMR)

I was actually looking into XMR alongside LTC, seems a pretty swell kind of setup from reading through.

I think I have made my mind up just for the long haul risk associated with BTC, LTC & XMR, Nothing can get much worse in price range in my opinion with them compared to the other gimmicks that are trying to take the stage.

Remember: Altcoins have very unpredictable price ranges. If you can handle losing money, then welcome aboard!
Go onto coinmarketcap.com and immediately ignore any altcoin below rank 50 (maybe 100 if you want to take an even larger risk).

DO
Coins which have niche features
Coins which have been released recently (if they are in the top 50/100 that's a good sign already.

DON'T
Coins which have a very low volume for their market cap
Coins which have changed very little in price

Hope this helped!

Coins that have growing communities. If a coin has community growth, all remaining problems self-resolve.

All I know is that I know nothing.
Which Altcoins should I hold onto for ... a very long time ...

none of them for long time because in long term none of the altcoins we know today are performing well enough to be considered as a good investment.
just do it short term.

But wasn't that when the algorithm wars was out a few years back when Litecoin was 40 bucks each ?

From looking at the charts Litecoin seems the most stable for the last 2 years.... Just saying from my observations that is why I was asking other people's opinion and of course I know to invest into Bitcoin Cheesy

it was 50 dollars and it was in the early days of 2013-2014 and the reason for it was because bitcoin got pumped by Mtgox back then and litecoin followed since it is the copy of bitcoin.

if you want profit then yeah litecoin is now a good investment because it has a pump due and we all know it is going to come. but your question was about "a long term investment" not buying an altcoin pre pump to make profit.

Out of all of them I think you already kind of know. LTC has to be one of them. Then again perhaps crypto won't be a thing anymore in yonks to come. So you will lose all.

If I were to hold whilst I took a break from this crypto. My opinion only and could be 100% wrong.

LTC, - if any of them will be around i think this one will be.

speculative gambles...

eth - seems to have big money involved although could fold when dev pot runs dry
bay - dev wont give up until project is done - when it is done it should be quite an useful project
sys - another possible

outsider chance for big returns...

dnet - devs trying to bring in more and more devs on project again seem dedicated to their creation. It could be a good anon competitor.

some interesting ideas. - not sure any will pull it off but if they did??

lisk- tons of devlopment funds - can't burn through it that quick
amp/rchain -  who can say could be a total loss but could still be attempting something new after yonks and keeping interest in the project
bts steem - don't like at all the steem launch but these guys seem to always create something better than most devs.
iota/byteball - don't like their distributions at all either but if they can pull off what they are attempting then...
zcash - i think 20 bucks is about the fair value now but could increase over a lengthy period depending on where all the dev funds are going.
dash - hate their distribution but they are zealots and cant fault their dedication.. will probably exist in some form for yonks.
xmr - skilled devs so I have been told but i've gone bbr and praying cz returns or at least poses some competition to xmr eventually.
sia
maid - eons
lbc

ones to wait for - both got to be worth a whirl if any alts are.

emunie
anonymints

super outsiders

cbx -  just seems underpriced to me but we have to wait and see.
doge - i dont think it will disapear and  it has to get a makeover soon.
bbr - come back cz and help out.
tons more semi good gambles and not outright scams but not really appropriate for yonks of away time.

Of course in yonks there will be the latest and greatest new releases but BTC may still be number 1.

i don't think that hold altcoin in long time is a good enough to make money, because as i know, only bitcoin that is best to hold for a long time. my suggestion is don't hold altcoin too long, if you can make good profit in short time, then sold it and rebuy, do it over and over and i am sure that you will get big profit.
