Going by trading volume the top two exchanges are located in China & Hong Kong (which is a special admin region of China). So maybe it is time to revise our filters.

ar eyou talking about no fee for all?

This information is wrong. Kraken has fee when buy/sell and withdraw.

To be honest, the most trade volume is in China.  Your best trading experience will be with the most liquidity. Theres BTCChina & Okcoin, okcoin is the only one I know of that has reputable backers, pretty sure that billionaire Tim Draper is an open investor.

btc-e

Run by a shady bunch, with banking, servers and registration in different countries, and almost always up. During the gox days when DDoS was a preferred method of crashing the prices, Btc-e stayed up always (well, almost always - it went down once).

Avoid the chat using the link btc-e.com/disableChat

BTC-e is one of the best for bitcoin trading. It is as anonymous as it gets, but they have a nice and basic professional looking site. dev obviously does a great job because it's very reliable. Been trading there for months without any problems

EU mostly use Kraken, but if you are not living in EU probably there could be issues related to wire transfers
Are all Americans on Bitstamp?

I use kraken.com. Really fast SEPA withdrawals, also very good support on this forum.

Isn't Kraken based in US?  If so, I guess it is not suitable for OP.

My bad, looks like it is based in san francisco. When I was depositing I wrote in SEPA country United Kingdom and when I am withdrawing to my bank account money is sent from Germany so this mislead me. Sorry again.

BTC-e has lots of payment methods, you could try it, does not take more than 3 minutes to register.
