Safest bitcoin wallets : If you can have your private keys, then they are basically safer to use. The safty of a wallet is based on your encryption password only.
Convenient wallets : Bitcoin core, Electrum and Multibit from my experience.

I agree with you.
Safety of a wallet is not in it's coding. It's depends on the security password we are using. The higher encryption the safet is more stronger.
Easy navigation and pleasant looks are making convenient wallets.

Hi all. I'm a novice on this forum. I want to know which Bitcoin wallet is the safest and the most convenient at the same time?
I've heard good feedbacks about Armory but as I understood it works only with Bitcoin-Qt. But Bitcoin-Qt weighs more than 30GB... Is it worth of this?  Huh

Perhaps someone can share better variants and explain why -  I would be very grateful for recommendations.

Coinbase would be the most convenient, as they pay your transaction fee.

i agree about that, however storing your bitcoins in an exchange site isnt safe as you dont have the full control over your private key. we dont know but any exchange site can say they are hacked and their users can doing nothing if that happens

Blockchain.info
This is one of the most safest wallet.

why you're keep repeating this, online wallet are not the safest at all, and in the past blockchain.info was discovered with many holes in security

are you trying to scam people in soem way or what?

Yes mate, I second this! Online wallets altogether and especially blockchain.info wallet which is by far the worst and the buggiest out there shouldn't be used or should be used for extremely small amounts that you can afford to lose.

When you are using online wallets you are not in a sole control of you money and you are pretty much trusting third party to save your money. Keep this in mind, everybody that are using online wallets!

I'm was using blockchain.info and they were my favorite before but they had a downtime of around 1 day and I had my bitcoins locked in there, after that I started using electrum and it's working so far, not sure if it's the safest method to store bitcoins though.

Coinbase would be the most convenient, as they pay your transaction fee. They also dont require you to log in all the time. I 2FA'd my transations, though.

I'd say a cold wallet would be the safest, as it is the most secure, besides a paper wallet. You cant really access a paper wallet easily, though...

are you sure about this?

i didn't know about this feature prior to your post, so i searched and read this https://bitcoin.org/en/release/v0.11.0#block-file-pruning

reading this part
Code:
Block pruning is currently incompatible with running a wallet due to the fact that block data is used for rescanning the wallet and importing keys or addresses (which require a rescan.)
However, running the wallet with block pruning will be supported in the near future, subject to those limitations.

i wonder , does this mean that it can not be used by people who want to use core as a wallet?

Whoops!  Looks like you're right and those who want to run core as a wallet won't be able to do pruning mode for now.  In any case, I guess it's already clear that core isn't the most convenient (it might be the mose useful, though).

with any smartphone it's better to recommend the bitcoin client, which is something akin to core, for androind, it offer the best protectio for mobile

I think Amph is talking about Andreas Schildbach's Bitcoin Walet for Android.

To you guys who are saying that core is very heavy with storage space, I believe the new version 0.11 now supports pruning mode, so the storage space shouldn't be as much of an issue as it used to be.

You know about the issues that blockchain.info android wallet had with using random.org for it's seed and basically giving the same address to everyone: http://arstechnica.com/security/2015/05/crypto-flaws-in-blockchain-android-app-sent-bitcoins-to-the-wrong-address/  (other discussions of this can be found on this very forum).  I don't know if I'd recommend and app with a reputation like that.

If you want a fast and simple bitcoin wallet then I recommend you the multibit.

you should try Electrum , then you will never go back to multibit again

they have somewhat the same functionality, but after trying out both of them i prefer Electrum much more.

I am using Electrum partially, but I really need to see more updates and features before I start using it fully.

I just dont like that it uses so little entropy, I like my money very secure Sad

Just use bitcoin core, even though it's very heavy wallet & need sync with blockchain, your bitcoin will be more secure than use other wallets.

I dont like the core, i would use electrum, but I want to see more audits happening to the code.

And all major , critical bugs fixed, especially the random number generator audited . I dont want my k variable exposed when i send out coins.

well it depends on what type of machine you are gonna work or use it in..like if you are using a pc then you have to select between a heavy or a light weight wallet..thay means bitcoin-qt or light wallets like armory, electry, hive etc etc..
I will suggest to use electrum wallet as it is convineant and smooth use with those transactions

Armory is not light weight wallet. Its heavy weight, ultra heavy weight.

The blockchain is like 73 GB, Armory builds another 40.6 GB of databases so it becomes 113.6 GB or burden.

Although I use Armory too (with Electrum), but its is becoming a real burden.

I can not see any bugs but suggestions. Read ThomasV's post. He has addressed all your questions/statements. Electrum is pretty safe as a wallet.

I`ll just wait a few more releases before I start using it, for now Armory is good, I can wait 2-3 more years.

the safest wallet is definitely either paper wallet or hardware wallet as no one gets your private key and only you own it

what you are telling is correct but for that the user should be knowledgeable to use that safely because once if the paper wallet or hardware wallet get corrupt , lost, crashed or anything accidentally happens then he/she wont be able to get back the details and what ever he/she earned will be lost it

Why does everyone keep asking about this question, can we just discuss it in a same topic. So please search any other topic that has the same question, before you asking it.
BTW I use Multibit, easy to use and lightweight. Grin
electrum is great too, and one thing it has over multibit is the ability to adjust the tx fee and also choose which addresses outputs are spent from.

Electrum has some issues, and perhaps some bugs too I already signalled in this thread:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bug-my-suggestions-to-improve-electrum-and-possible-bugs-detected-1152808

So i`m not FUD-ing but I think Electrum needs more development before we can use it safely.

For me coinbase. I am customer of this bitcoin wallet since more two years. It is the most convenient because you don't pay fee in every transaction you do because all the fees are handled by coinbase. Is the safest because even if a web based wallet you have the key of your bitcoins so no one can stole those.

If you will be moving your funds often, why not to try Coinbase? I do not know why people is so mad at "annonymity", unless you will be buying drugs/anything illegal or live in a country with strong, absrud control over its population (China?).

If I were to stack BTC, I would use the core, original stuff is usually the best.

To those saying that 50 GB is not that much, well, average bandwidth here is 5 MB, it will take hours to download that thing... now consider countries with worse connections (there are, lots of them).

You're going to catch some flack for recommending Coinbase because a lot of the more experienced Bitcoin users have an issue with Coinbase holding the users private keys. If an individual does not possess their own private keys then technically they do not have control of their coins.

I personally recommend Coinbase to individuals who have never used Bitcoin before because it is very user friendly and the security is top notch. The vault feature is also something to look into as an additional security measure. Fun fact: you can also set up a multi-sig vault so that you have control over your own private keys!  Wink

SPV wallets or Lite wallets are the way to go if you are not looking for some node functionalities on your wallet. It is easy to use and also novice-friendly unlike the Bitcoin-QT wallet which is more of an advanced client targeted to the tech savvy people looking for some more functionalities. I'm using Electrum (though I have the QT installed in my machine too) as of this moment and so far I haven't encountered any problems with it. Smiley

Oh and one last word, as much as possible, stay away from online wallets.

Actually blockchain needed for full validation wallets to work weighs more than 45GB as of now. But if you can afford to download it - then go for it.
Online wallets, and centralized wallets with simplified validation and online blockchain can fail (as seen recently), Bitcoin Core cannot.

Well it also depends on your holdings. For example, if you have more than 10 BTCs, I would recommend that you get yourself a Trezor. This is by far the safest option out there, of course if you trust ghe developers, but they have already proven themselves! It's on sale for $99 at the moment!

If your holdings are smaller, than use core, electrum or multibit! Stay away from online wallets!

Normally I would recommend against using any of the online wallets (especially in case if you are owning more than BTC10). That said, Blockchain.info is the best online wallet available out there right now. But be really careful in storing your coins with them. Create two strong passwords (main password and transaction password), and take regular backups.

For the safest wallet, it is always bitcoin- core, because it is the very original wallet started by satoshi and developed by the community.
However it takes at least 50GB of your hard disk space, so it obviously not the most convenient one. I personally use blockchain.info wallet because it can be accessed once I have a Internet connection. However I think the most convenient one is Mycelium for Android, because it is lightweight yet multi-functional (like signing message, sweeping paper wallet etc.).

All of the 'mainstream' wallets on offer today are good and most often it comes down to personal preference.

However, with that said, the most important aspect for me with any wallet is the control/trust factor. Who has control over all the private keys? If you do not have full and explicit control over all of the private keys then you are not in control of that wallet. The trust factor is out the window [in my opinion], the moment a third party has access and or control over some or all of the private keys.

So if you ask me which wallet I'll say start with the above, pick one that puts yourself and only yourself in charge of said wallet.

i can't see the problem of downloading 30-50 gb one time only with core, besides this for me it's still the best wallet and the one that is less susceptible to random problems like the last one with the invalid blocks from miner

people download every day game, movie in high resolution which exceed 30 gb like nothing and they worry to donwload one time only 30 giga...

You should understand the concept about Cold/Hot Wallets.

A cold wallets holds most of your money and is save/offline: I still use paper wallets for that, but might switch to a hardware wallet like trezor in the near future.

A hot wallet contains what you really want to use and is not that save/online(since every device that is connected to the internet could be compromised): I use mostly Mycelium for that, since it is not really convenient to have your wallet only on your pc.

If you are looking for a fast, easy and convenient wallet for desktop, you should look for Electrum, or MultiBit.
