I have 2 6x GPU rigs mining ETH, one is 6x1070, the other is 6x570.

My 1070s mine @ 32-33Mh, 570s @ 29Mh (similar power consumption).  Right now 1070s cost around $400, 570s are around $220-250, so the break even time for only ETH mining favors the Rx570s.  Having said that, you should also factor the alternate coins a GPU can mine, for example 1070s mine ZEC pretty well, and 570s mine XMR very well.

I have read that the GPUs will not last long if used to mining but they never mentioned how long it will be alive? Will GPUs be alive more than 2 years and will I be able to break even by that time too?
when I first built a mining rig using the Asrock H81 PRO BTC R2.0 and using  6x GPU (RX series 480 8GB), if I didn't forget I bought around 2017 until now all these GPUs run smoothly in Ethash.

For ROI depends on the market situation.

Thanks. I will be able to ask the store personnel about it too. I just want to make sure I have the working devices before venturing to an expensive hardware, so I might start with Asrock H81 PRO BTC R2.0 and maybe RX series that's newer like 580. I'm becoming serious about this mining plan I have than setting up masternodes. Thanks.

Snipped parts of your comment because i only disagree on the fact that the 1070 is the best for Ethereum mining now. In fact, i disagree completely and don't believe that it is profitable for any algorithm right now. The 1070 is actually going to be the hardest hit GPU when the first batch of Z9 or E3 ASICs arrive. My speculation is that they will become the least profitable (if ever GPUs remain profitable at all).

actually, as long as the motherboard has PCIe x16 / x1 can be used but almost all miners usually use a minimum of 6xPCie. these are some motherboards if you want to use:

man, you did not mention a special tool, which could rise the hashrate for gtx1080 and gtx1080 ti for more then 40mh/s, but sure they will not be the best cards because of this. I agree with fold before, the most card for eth is rx570 8gb

1080s can have ~40 MH/s hashrate with ETHlargementpill, on par with P104-100 cards, so it's way better than any 1060/1070. Roll Eyes

I have an NVIDIA mining rig and I'm using H170 Pro Gaming by Asus. You can hook up to 6 GPU's, with a very flexible BIOS. It uses LGA1151 Intel socket, so keep that in mind. When I bought this mobo it cost me $100, but they had a $20 buck mail in rebate.

But for one GPU? I don't know man. Unless you treat it as a fun/hobby project, then ok I guess? As a learning experience. Else, I'd think about buying ethereum instead. my two cents.

I think I might be able to set this up using the wind turbine we have at home. I'd like to try at least just one GPU for now until I can see I will profit through it.

I understand you’re a fan of nVidia, but I can buy 2 RX 570s for the same price as 1 1080ti and get 60mhs.  So, which is the better buy with the best return?  Maybe you should put nVidia in the subject line.
