Best to study until you're a senior before you buy. Freshman students don’t design and build a drone in their first year.

Good advice! People are always looking for shortcuts. A good example is when they start a thread with the same question that has been asked 100 times before instead of searching for existing threads first. This is OP's attitude: "I hear that you can make money on cryptocurrencies, I'm too lazy to do the research myself, I'll let people tell me what the best coin is put all my money in it and get 200% next month". I have to say OP, this is the road to success. You're going to be rich soon! Cheesy

choose a coin that has a large volume in the market and also the senior coin (at least top coin position in coinmarketcap). I am sure if you do that then sooner or later you will immediately benefit.

I think Aion,PKT and CRED coins will be good choice for new customers. If someone wants to invest for a temporary time, then these coins can give great success. These coins are my favorite choices.

- If you are fresh investor and don't have much idea about crypto and it's trading than just buy coin with high marketcap which will have low risk of loss.

- if you want to try than you can check your luck with day trading

- Invest in multiple ico as long term investment.

- Never buy any MLM based coin like onecoin And never invest in any hyip Ponzi.

Some of this is great advice! The two things I wouldn't agree with are:
(1) investing in multiple ICOs; Most ICOs will fail
(2) making buying decisions based on market capitalization. There's no correlation between market capitalization and performance.

Bitcoin has ~17m coins available, currently priced at $14,000, which equals a market capitalization of $238 Billion.

Another lesser known coin could have a $300 Billion market capitalization but have 100 billion coins available and a coin price of $3. Does that make the lesser known coin more valuable or a better investment opportunity? No.

And technically, market capitalization is a figure representing all the value a new investor has missed over the last months or years. A lower market cap would potentially represent better upside potential of any investment. E.g., there's enough demand in the market to push Bitcoin to $238 B. If you believe another coin could reach the same level of adoption you should choose one with a Market cap that is lower than $238 B, because that means the price per coin is less than Bitcoin or the coin has fewer available (i.e., lower supply, more scarce)?

For a freshman, I will suggest you to start with Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the pioneer in crypto and valuable. Ethereum is another coin you can consider, an evergreen coin in the altcoin category.

If we are going to invest, of course let us invest to the coin which are on the  top list in the coinmarketcap., but, as a freshman I am suggesting to buy bitcoin first so you can familiarize with the steps on buying and selling coins, and of course make sure that you are willing and patient enough to do this.

A few altcoins are going strong at this time and show some promise for the future, such as Ethereum, Ripple and Bitcoin Cash. You could star there, although I would advise you to do your own research and see which one you consider to be best for your investment.

As a freshman to join in this area, which coin is recommend to buy?

What's a "freshman" in the cryptocurrency market?

You will not lose anything if you invest in one of the coins in top 5 for a long term.

This is terrible advice. Comments like these support critics (like Warren Buffet) claims that Bitcoin is guaranteed to end badly. When you try to guarantee future gains you are foolish or trying to incite scam.

Right. The top ten coins would be your most logical choice since they're pretty established though it won't hurt if you set aside a few bucks to try your luck in icos and lesser known coins. Its a volatile market. Small coins can pump up to more than 100%. Research and study is your best tool dude

Why on earth would you recommend someone new start off with lesser known coins or an ICO?! They could lose all their money! Stop trying to promise get rich quick schemes! Investing in and ICO is the fastest way to lose your money. Most ICOs never take off and it takes weeks or months for mainstream exchanges to begin to support the ICO coin, and until that happens you're unable to sell your coins!

To the OP, start with an established coin - Bitcoin or Ethereum. Then read, learn, read, learn, and growth from there. Bitcoin is coming off a low right now so it would be a great time to buy Bitcoin on the dip.

There are many potential altcoins, you can visit coinmarketcap. Currently, I advise you to start investing with Ripple / XRP.
In addition, you can also try ICO. Buy at pre-ICO prices, if lucky when launching in the market price can exceed ICO, can get profit doubled.

Just select any coin or even a few of the top. You leave them for a long time, and then choose what to do.
