If you have the money to buy this much equipment and have a rack in a datacenter to put it in, you should already know the answer.....

Didn't you just create a thread asking if mining was going to die soon?  Now you are spending $10k+ on mining equipment?

I don't get you man
are you a police that i need to ask for permission before creating a thread?

other post was obviously to see what people think
and this is to see other people's view and also get from people with experience and see what they think

just because 1U is more dense doesn't mean it is best route..the air cooling may not be good enough in 1U and also there might be more power as there will be more PSUs
but damn..please relax..this is a forum and me posting does not cause you any harm

and PS, i will be posting more and more threads and replying to people on this forum
so you going to have to deal with it
damn man

Edit: $2k per 1U for the Tyan?  nope.

but that comes already with motherboard, power supply(2 x 1600 watts mind you) and already mounted
just need to buy GPU, CPU, RAM and SSD

expensive yes, but not that much if you think about it

probably the 3u for less noise plus more space. back in the day i bought a rosewill 4u and modded it, got backplates that were only psu and pcie slots all the way across, drilled holes and put standoffs for the motherboard in the front of the unit. little bit of work but fit 6 cards in it with a cheap board and still run it to this day. The other way is to get tiered shelf unit for 60usd, you could put 72 cards on a full rack front or double it with cards along both sides and psu motherboards on it nice and cheap just put some big space fans on it to cool everything with gpu fan profiles adjusted up a little from stock. dont get me wrong i like rackmounts but thats alot of money wasted... imo

it will be in a datacenter so wont care about noise
also the 1U will be better for space as 3 x 1U = 3 x 4GPU = 12GPU for 3U

Agreed.  I am converting my machines to 4U cases, but it is a slow process (looking for deals) and I am glad I went for the GPUs first before trying to put them into enclosures.

On that note, I love 1U servers (for space), but they can be difficult and expensive to service if something goes wrong.  2U/3U/4U is more cost-effective and you will have more options.

Edit: $2k per 1U for the Tyan?  nope.
