Depends on your goals and how much risk are you willing to take, how much would you like to invest. There are so many altcoins and its very hard to monitor the market and decide which one to go for. And for better results you should stick only to some coins. Crypto to fiat is more profitable probably but also connected with more risks but I would still choose that option.

If you are moving large sums of money, I would not recommend to trade altcoins. Bitcoin is the most stable cryptocurrency, and even then there are many uncertainties, there is not even a consensus as to how we are going to scale.
Now think about the difficulties that all these other coins will have to scale, when they go through the same problems that Bitcoin is going through.

What trading method/style do you use? Is it crypto coin to crypto coin (Ex. BTC/ETH, BTC/DASH, ..)  or crypto coin to fiat money (Ex. BTC/USD, ETH/EURO, ..)? Why do you prefer that style and why not the other one?

Right now I'm into crypto coin > fiat money and I want to focus with this type of trading for now.

Because I'm sick of trading alt coins right now and it's hard to monitor the market if you've got a lot of alt coins in your hard.

And if ever I'm going to focus also with alt coin trading, I'm going to focus only with specific coins.

But for now, I'm going to focus with BTC>USD trading.

If you don't want to be manipulated by alt coin traders/ whales it's more profitable if you'd go with crypto/fiat than crypto/crypto but even if you do crypto/fiat you're still good as long as you don't try to withdrawal fiat there is no need for you to trade your precious bitcoins (gold) for some useless alt coins (silver/iron Cheesy ) and sometimes you'll never know which coin is going to pump insanely like ETH and DASH or when they'll dump hard and that's the risk you should know about it.

BTC/LTC right now can bring more profit than you think, but it's not always like this, imagine exchanging BTC for LTC and while LTC was $11 next day it drops to $10 and you have lost 10% give or take that easy. but if you do BTC/USD then you wait for price to go down to buy back much cheaper coins compared to yesterday and doing it over and over will make you a day trader.

It's more convenient though for transferring between exchanges if you do it by crypto to crypto for paying less fees as long as you know which altcoin to pick.

Usually crypto-crypto has lower spreads, meaning that if you are a trader that takes advantage of the spreads by buying and selling actively on each sides then it isn't really for you.

I suggest that if you want to make some real money, you'll have to trade with fiat. Get an account on every exchange, especially Localbitcoins and Paxful. Lots of buyers of bitcoin that want to pay in for example gift cards, and if you have a method to cash out these gift cards then you're in luck for cash.

Personality I traded coins to crypto coins is like BTC/ETC on exchangers because it is simple
and I can trade on every exchangers around the world,
also I can use strategy trading arbitrage when use coins to crypto coins than fiat,
but doesn't mean bitcoin to fiat can not be arbitrage, if there are different price
usually i did arbitrage with help paybis.com and use payment gateway for withdrawal.

I'm more often trading crypto-crypto like BTC to another altcoin like xmr, stratis etc, the reason is profit i got more fast than trading BTC-Fiat, I'm only trading BTC-Fiat when BTC in high price or in fast price movement, I think if we only use 1-2 BTC trade in BTC-Fiat profit we got little different when we use 1-2BTC trade in crypto-cyrpto.

as of know i can only say that learning crypto to crypto is much profitable base on my own experience as the fluctuation from the base crypto (btc) really affect almost all alt coins, just needed to be more familiarized with certain movements i don't have any trade experience with crypto to fiat so i can't give any idea.

Without any confusions, trading bitcoins against fiats (yes, I am not ready to consider trading altcoins against bitcoin nor fiats) is more secure and profitable all the times in my trading career.

Compared to any other markets, bitcoin trading has huge volume all the times, it means we never need to worry about sudden manipulations which are the biggest problems of most of the altcoins, they get dumped from the point you bought them. But bitcoin trading always has the minimum guarantee to bounce back.

with all the crypto exchange places there is one big problem that they all share. and that is the lack of trust. we have already seen many claim they were hacked, many who ran away and lots of other scams. so the solution for this (or at least half solution) is to never keep anything on exchanges.

now this means you need to deposit, trade, withdraw, rinse and repeat. deposit and withdrawal of fiat needs going through banks. that will introduce you to a lot of fee and even to raising of some red flags on your bank account because of flow of large sums of money in and out from and to crypto exchanges and it can even block your bank account.

with all that said i think it is obvious that the choice is crypto/btc not crypto/fiat since nobody finds out how much you deposit and withdraw even if it is a million dollar daily and nobody can block it and the fees you pay are nothing compare to a 5%-10% fees of fiat transfers!

it mostly depends on the use. for crypto-trading, online business transaction cryptocoin will be best, but talk about local market and some daily petty trading, fiat is inevitable.but about the characteristic features like security, cryptocoin is far better.

Crypto exchange into fiat preferably USD because unlike other cryptos(alt coins) USD doesn't lose it's value over night or in 1 week or if it does it's not more than %0.5 but alt coins prices fluctuates massively sometimes and they also react to Bitcoin's price so it's more safe if you do BTC/USD in my opinion.

In trading I prefer Eth/btc as it provided more liquidity for day traders. Most of the altcoins trading platform do not contain fiats exchangers so I prefer stick to eth/btc if not I will preferred using eth/ usd as the liquid could have been high. Though bitcoin and others altcoins litecoin and dash trading are almost the something! But I do think the pairs we trade do not matter most  but how we trade them that matters.

since 99% of altcoin trading platforms don't even have fiat markets i am going to say everyone (me included) prefers crypto to crypto trading.
think about it, fiat markets of altcoins are only in btc-e, i think bitfinex has some apart from USDT markets and c-cex has some USD markets too. and if you compare the volumes you will see they are not being used that much compared to the same crypto versus bitcoin market volume.

and biggest exchanges like poloniex and bittrex don't have any fiat market (apart from USDT  which is not really fiat and it is not being used as much)
