Beautiful setup. What are you using to hook up two PSUs?

Isn't 1200W x2 a but overkill? I assume you got this setup for the 6+2 pins you needed. I mean you need 12 x 6+2 plus 6 molex. That a lot.

Also only two risers are powered? What about the rest?

Each card takes arround 300w + board + risers. So 2400w are perfect for this rig. And like you said i needed 6 x 8+6 pcie connectors to power my cards. I only use 2 powered risers on the 6 card setup, my other 4 card boards are running with normal risers for months without any trouble.

Your four cards are pulling 4,500 = 300W from mother board.  The motherboard only has 75W for 16x and 25W for 1x. Don't understand how that is working for months.

Also 3x300W per GPU plus say 200W for mb that's 1100W
The other PSU Powering 3x300W GPUs could be 900 or 1000W.

I'm just saying maybe the is a way too avoid 1200W and higher PSUs that add so much to the cost.

Someone claimed he dies two 850W for 5x 290 rig all pwered risers but don't know if that's true. I'm buying parts for similar system so I'm ring to find the cheapest solution.

Thanks Guys.

I now have
MB: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 AMD990FX
CPU: AMD FX-4300
POWER: 1050W + 1000W = XFX PRO1050W AND Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 10 1000W
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600
GPUs: 5 x Sapphire R9 290x TRI (3 fan type)

Please let me know how many & what type of Risers needed, I hear lot of bad news when mixing up 2 power supplies. New to Riser stuff, but otherwise have build many PCs in the past.

Thanks

What would be the current best (stable & lasting) MOBO to support 5 or (maybe 6) Sapphire 290X.
Which brand recommended for power supply (I assume 2x) 750 etc.

Thanks

Here are two R9 290 left $487 directly sold by amazon:

The best board i found so far: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, cheap, no presence jumper needed and very easy to setup. I am running 4 of this boards with 6x290, 4x290, 4x290, 5x280x. To run 6x290s you need windows 8.1 with all updates, has its own driver for 290/290x. Dont use AMDs driver.

My setup for 6x290s:

Board: GA-990FXA-UD3
Processor: AMD FX-4300
Ram: Kingston DDR3-1600 (2x4Gb)
HD: SSD Kingston 120Gb V300
Power: 2 x Thermaltake Smart w1200
Wifi: Tp-link mini 300Mbps USB
GPUs: 2 x Sapphire R9 290x + 4 XFX R9 290
Riser: 2 x1-1 powered + 4 x16-16
O.S.: Windows 8.1 Enterprise
CGminer 3.7.2

We run 5x 280x and 5x 290 rigs on a 970a-D3P board with 5 risers. Haven't tried any 290x, but don't see why it wouldn't work.

Also, you're going to need a lot more than 2x 750W PSUs. Try more like 2x 1000W or 1100W PSUs.

Our 5x 290 rig pulls 1750W at the wall, and the 290x pull a bit more power than a 290(non-x). You're looking at closer to 2000W.

There are many options here. Which one to choose?
