Bitcoin have potential to be a much better ROI. But is also higher risk.

I agree, if bitcoin works out and gets adopted, the gain would likely be much higher. Then again, bitcoin is still quite experimental, so chances of complete failure are non-neglible.
They both have small market caps compared to possible demand, so volatility will be high, but bitcoin has this to an even more extreme extent.

Why silver? Neither Wordpress nor other big online services are accepting it yet, unlike Bitcoin. Cheesy

Local banks do. And pawn shops too. Both have more footprint than BTC as a whole.
But the comparison is hiking.

The important question is: Will 1 bitcoin ever be worth more than 1 oz of silver?  Tongue
Silver was under US$5/oz 9 years ago and under US$10/oz in 2006. It's not like the valuations of the two are that different.

Silver or Bitcoin? Its like arguing what is better stocks or bonds. Have both, balance the portfolio once in a while. Both bitcoin and silver are great investments and different asset classes, and they are not highly correlated which is rather a rarity these days because everything there is, is highly correlated to QE X. The only thing they all trade now is QE's.

Valve should accept Bitcoin on Steam, then we're talking.

Just keep sending emails Wink
Wordpress has just tilted the scale.

Bitcoin offer something that silver dont Easy money

Own a popular service such as Steam, or a gaming company can buy a couple of thousands of Bitcoins.
Because they can be sure that they can affect the value of the investment.

Now offer people to get your product for x% less when bought with Bitcoin.
This creates publicity which drives value up, and gets in investors and a need for Bitcoins, pushing price up.

As you do this, you show others the way and more will follow. As value continue to increase more will buy coins.

Right now atleast a couple of company owners are thinking about this, Wordpress has showed the way.

If you are a billionaire. Buy a million Bitcoins slowly for a year, careful to not push the price up.
Get some companies to accept Bitcoins and offer the service a little cheaper. Heck you could even pay them some.

Waitas the news spreads and the value rise.

Its also soon the only way to hide fortunes in the coming years.
Which is what the rich want.

There is a high probability that Bitcoin or maybe another cryptocurrency will rise to the stars over the next 1-10 years.
When it starts to pickup steam, it will really pickup steam.

And when it does it will exceed most peoples expectations.

Bitcoin will outperform everything for the next 30 years  Kiss

And even if that doesn't prove to be the case, Bitcoin is still brilliant. At least until quantum computing comes along to throw a huge spanner in the works!
At which point we'll be able to run biomedical simulations to cure all diseases and treat cell degeneration so we can live forever. Why would anyone even care about money? Bitcoin is just a better crutch for civilization to learn how to cooperate without war.

May I add, Bitcoin are so young, and modern.

I like to look at Bitcoin as a pinksheet stock, that have the potential to become part of the DOW 40 within 10 years, or miserably fail like almost all pinksheet stock do.

OP, take a look at some technical analisis, including all data, this is interesting.

Going Bitcoin is a risky bet for sure, but has so much potential.

I hoard only 10 to 20 % of my bought and mined bitcoin, I use the rest to buy stuff, make donation or bought fiat (I dont buy fiat anymore with BTC since almost a year).  I'm ok with it, event if BTC are going to the moon, I'll be happy with my little 15% hoarded.  I also buy BTC monthly with 5% of each and every $ earned that month, whatever price they are !

silver is going no where, it is an industrial metal.
Gold price is the same, it's not going anywhere. But it's dollar going down.
But it looks like gold is rising and silver is stalling.

If I were a betting man (well I really am, but that's the expression).... I'd go long on bitcoins.

But, if you are a stacker, I'd recommend both. No reason not to diversify.

I don't know where you live but where I am I can exchange any gold or silver bullion at fixed rates at any bank instantly.
It's even more convenient  than a savings account since I don't have to sign anything.

Yet you are on video tape when you walk into a bank. lol

Not that anonymous.

As you walk into your local ponzi scheme location with a head that looks like a Hershey's Kiss. LOL!

Bitcoin have potential to be a much better ROI, its so easy to use on the internet and in real life.
But is also higher risc.

Really?

Using a silver coin as in : "going to your local coin shop and handing it over for cash"........is so hard lol

Bitcoin is not that easy to use to the average joe, yet....so I disagree.

Your point fails really hard.

ROFL!!!

Smoothie

From the starting point of having BTC (an enviable point):
1. spend

From the starting point of silver:
1. drive to shop
2. get a bad price because you have 1 damn coin
3. go to bitinstant
4. drive to bank
5. pay a fee
6. spend

Well no one says you HAVE to use a dealer to sell silver. I've had much success selling on craigslist for prices higher than spot.

Your point?

1. Sell silver over craigslist for cash.

2. Spend cash locally without a bank involved.

I think this is how most people do things now a days when it comes to silver and gold.

The point is still valid...it isnt easy for the average person. Plus people who aren't computer savvy are also going to consider Bitcoin as "difficult to use".

Granted, you do have a reasonably valid point. However, a Bitcoin client isn't that much more difficult to use than a web browser, really. Actually, if the average joe can drive a car or fill out a tax return (yikes!), they can definitely install and use a Bitcoin client if they so desire. That latter stipulation may be the tricky part, though.

"Can" is not the same as "will be easily able to do".

People will get it perhaps in the next year or two. But to pick up a new concept like bitcoin and put your full faith into it on a whim is stupid.

It took me about 8 weeks to get the concept of bitcoin down so I understood how it all worked and was able to test it out before delving into it as an investment.

The average joe will not wake up as fast to this new system. Most of us were born into the paper/digital money system.

Yes it is, but they just don't know it (yet?). Granted, there are subtle nuances that take it well above dummy level but it's not that difficult to get started with Bitcoin. I got a female friend in her fifties into it a bit recently, and she even downloaded Bitcoin-Qt! She did complain a little that synching the blockchain's a bit slow on her old PC, mind. Smiley But she managed it anyway, even if she hasn't spent the few pennies I shipped her way. Then again, she's reasonably intelligent and obviously not a technophobe, especially for someone her age - I think she's got IT-savvy relatives.

I'll say silver, just because it's been around a lot more than Bitcoin.
That's like saying "I'll say horses just because they've been around a lot longer than air planes or cars"

Horses are way up.

B.S.

A friend put an ad in the paper looking for a free horse and had 12 horses offered in less than a week.  Hay is way up and those suckers eat a lot.  They aren't worth the upkeep costs unless you use them every day.

Well at least that alleviates the hoarding problem (for horses  Cheesy)

I'm a veteran silver stacker and a newbie bitcoin speculator. What I'm concerning most now is that in the near or intermediary period which one shall go to da moon first? Siver or bitcoin?
FYI: my DCA of bitcoin is only a little bit under the present day price.
