I do not no why are you looking for alternative, but for me Litecoin and NEO are following the ETH at the Crypto market.

The two contender for Ethereum allternatives are WAVES and NEO platform, but NEO has a greater advantage over WAVES due to its larger community support. NEO are backed by Chinese government too, so there is no doubt that NEO could be the next ETH, but for more secure platform i am rooting for CARDANO.

I am very disappointed in the OP for missing out on ICON, to me Waves should not be on the list because it is more of a DEX than being an Alternative to ethereum, ICON has some ICOs lining up on their platfrom to run their ICOs in coming month so expect the rice to start picking up

I think it is NEO, because NEO also has a very large community base, and there are more and more projects based on NEO, the transfer speed of NEO is faster, and the transfer fee is 0.

Yes indeed, It's the fees and network congestion that are making developers think about the alternatives on Ethereum platform and NEO are coming forward with the best solutions for the problems faces by both developers and the users. Though it may also get tough competition from newer generation coins.

Rootstock (RSK) without a doubt.

first of all it is a second layer solution like lightning network and works on top of bitcoin which gives it the security and popularity that it needs.
second it will be as fast as humanly possible compared to everything else.
third it will be nearly free because unlike all of these smart contract platforms, RSK won't need transaction fees.
and finally the smart contracts on bitcoin are already in place, the hype of it alone can put everything else out of business!
Its good suggestion but still its not proven and gone through website having strong partnership still its using bitcoin blockchain "smart contract platform that is connected to the Bitcoin blockchain through sidechain technology". Even i will keep eye on this poject is there any coins availabe on this project . I dint find anything relate to this on coinmarketcap.

In my opinion, NEO is ahead of most of the alternative competitor of Ethereum. They already have a dozen of tokens hosted and more than 30 on the line to issue the token on their platform. http://ndapp.org

Being a biggest fan of ethereum i have done some research .
1) In 2017 waves looks like good competition for ethereum but couldnt able to .
2) In between NEM/XEM was made some promise move project like Comsa , Dimcoin build on these platform Even it couldnt succeed more. But now i am finding NEO and ADA making lots of promise .
3) NEO already grabing lots of project more over Decentrelised exchange proposed NEX and also the major 4% returns in the form of GAS.
4) ADA still roadmap has to achieve but making lots of promise in terms of Security and Scalability comapre to existing smart contract platforms . As well included one of the Ethereum founding member.
