GPU-Z because it provides ALL the temp data (including VRM temps).
Have seen lots of people posting "I am having GPU load drop to 92% but my temp is 85C". Well there isn't one "temp" there are 8 temps and VRM (which isn't shown in cgminer, afterburner, etc) can get very hot (120C hot) and much hotter than GPU core. When that happens thermal/current protection kicks in and GPU gets throttled until temps are back in line. Then GPU goes back to 100%, VRM overheats, throttle down to 9x%, back to 100%, etc.

I have to use GPU-z because afterburner gives me an error when I try to launch it.
What error is that?Usually it's either; you have an expired beta version, or a driver conflict!

Yes you can have 8 GPU cores with Windows 7 and the latest Catalyst drivers.
You don't even need dongles on the cards anymore.

i just use the window gadget gpu observer. theres also one that comes with trixx
The problem with the trixx one is it doesn't work for 4+ gpu rigs. It doesn't show every gpu. It also is super tiny. I assume the gadget one is some what similar.I didn't think the Windows version of the catalyst driver supported more than 4 GPUs, does it now?

You can configure the naming scheme, you'll see below in orange, is my first card, the second same names in green are my 2nd card, you can name it to what you like.

Clocktweak is a great command line app for overclocking. I use it to monitor temps. No fancy graphs, but it gets the job done. Low overhead also.

I don't know if its the best but I like using afterburner for monitoring my gpu temps. It shows the top temp as well as a recent past history in a graph.
