I whitelisted imgur. I probably won't whitelist others because I trust them less and they tend to have less consistent URL formats.

Thanks. My guides use flickr, although as you say the urls are come in different formats. AFAIK there are only 10 servers for the pictures, as below. They're also owned by Yahoo so unlikely to do anything devious,

you forgot the other purpose of the proxy: to make all the content on the site https. otherwise, the site will only show up as partial https on the browser bar.

this photo proxy is just AWESOMELY GREAT!!! THANK YOU.

When it works, and on low weight pages. Some of my heavier guides like the C1 simply don't fully load (and doesn't show where pictures should have been) because the proxy can't parse all the thumbnails in <2 seconds before the cutoff.

imgur works perfectly fine for me when i try to imbed images.

The image is first downloaded by the forum's image proxy, which is what you request to view it. Works 90% of the time, but it has additional restrictions on file size, load time and every now and then goes full derp and selectively displays content.

Which is particularly interesting because the forum earns much more than enough money to afford infrastructure for a decent image proxy..

The infrastructure would get a free 'upgrade' simply by whitelisting a few trusted image sites and removing the duplication of work.

I'm not sure how it interacts with this situation, but both imgur and flickr support https.

The image proxy generally performs well 70% of the time, but there are still periods of time where it decides not to load all content. My understanding of the reason for its existence is to protect users from having IPs and other info pulled by malicious hosts. If that is the case, can't we whitelist some of the major sites like imgur, flickr, photobucket etc which do not participate in this in order to reduce the load on the proxy. It would increase the consistency of picture heavy content and generally speed loading times up.
