I guess I'm a crab, but I'm working on becoming an octopus Cheesy

Now I envy you  Cry.

Envy people who were smart enough to buy more last year or sold their houses and bought Bitcoin like that man in 2018.

At almost any point in time you were able to become a big holder because almost once every year Bitcoin offered an opportunity to enter the market at a discount and every single time only very few people were brave enough to do it. For this reason despite bitcoin going 4x in one year you don't see many bitcoin millionaires driving their new ferraris and lambos Wink

If only I were financially stable during those times, I would not dare to sell my BTC, but I don't regret it even a little because selling my holdings back then helps my family to continue living and even experience how good life is.  I even own houses now but I would not dare to sell them just to get in the trend but rather, I will work my way in accumulating BTC through hard works.  Grin.

Glassnode noticed that the number of whales is regularly increasing, institutional investors are constantly buying bitcoin. They buy bitcoin for a long time and are not going to panic with any correction.

Ask yourself, "What species can you be?" Smiley
It’s kind of fun going through the classifications, but as usual we all cannot tell whether it is right or not. Just as you have described it, one address can be holding funds from multiple individuals and some individuals are holding their funds in different addresses, just like me, I don’t hold my coins in one address, they are all stored in different addresses.

I believe that there are people who will own huge amount that will be divided and kept in different addresses and wallets for safety purposes, and since you can’t tell the owner of an address you can’t tell how many addresses that they own.

Looking into all my wallet and looking at the chain-image I am wondering if am on the list, I don't mean this argument in the side of that am on the high part, I know for sure that I am meant to be a shrimp but a shrimp very close to 1btc may feel slighted if I consider myself a shrimp.
But I do not see on the amount of Bitcoin I have but how excited I am about Bitcoin.

Whoah interesting terms of classifying which group are we in. No wonder whales are powerful in manipulating the market whenever theyve wanted to. They've owned thousands of bitcoin which can move the markets when they wanted to sell it off.

Whatever category we are, from shrimp to humpback whales the thought of being united in one purpose. That is being part of new advanced tech makes us more proud that we own satoshis. A digital currency that connects all of us.

Currently still a shrimp. I always think of what could have been. Due to circumstances I was not able to invest as early as I would have liked. I could have at least been a crab or maybe even an octopus if I had had better fortune.
If I'm gonna say I'm a whale, I'm sure nobody will believe this as most replies here are shrimp. But it was just an ambitious dream, proud to be a shrimp. lol
It is a long way to go with that level, I'm not sure also if that achieves or not.
Anyway, I was enjoying being at the low level which I'd never have worries about hacking as I was holding almost nothing.

How I wish that I'm a whale or humpback whale but that will only happen in my dreams. Majority of us in here are in the shrimp category and those that have more than 10 are just silent. But disclosing how much you've got into public is somehow vulnerable but in forums like this, it's fine as long as you're not bearing your real name or aware that you can easily avoid scammers.

I would advise this to be a rhetorical question & anybody who has over maybe 10 bitcoin not to publicly announce their position. This forum is rife with scammers & whilst I appreciate different stash categories & it’s kinda cool, I don’t think it’s a good idea to tell people how much money you have but maybe I’m just old fashioned.
Aside from scammers, if someone knows you publicly and personally, you might get a wrench attack which has been warned by other members that can actually happen if they know how much you've got.

Yeah, majority should be in the shrimp and crab category, but doesn't matter though, sats=sats and every one has its plan to move themselves along the ranks. But it seems that this is just for fun and I would advise not to take it seriously.  Smiley The  best thing to do is really push ourselves to save and HODL bitcoin, as many as we can to prefer for our financial freedom in the next coming years.

I used to be a crab but, I abandoned it when I sold my BTC, when I came out of my shell being a crab, I found out that I am neither a shrimp but an alga Grin.

At this point, unfortunately, I'm Shrimp, and it looks like I will have to fight my way up Smiley

I guess 99% of the people around are Shrimps too. I was an Octopus three years ago, but those are long forgotten times.

I think you are going to  "hodl"  your way up.

I guess I'm a crab, but I'm working on becoming an octopus Cheesy

If you asked me without revealing it I'd say that you must be at least a crab. Most legendaries on this forum should be crabs or higher, especially if they ever participated in a campaign of some sort. In 2017 and 2018 it was really easy to make 0.1 BTC. You could do that in 1 month. If you were here in 2013 or 2014 you could make 1 BTC per month.

True, most legendaries here should either be a crab or an octopus(assuming they hodl) because earning BTC way back 3 - 4 years ago is quite easy.

The categorization looks surprisingly wired! How come Shrimps are so less in percentage? I believe they should have the most number of people!
The percentages are the number of bitcoin owned by that group, not the number of people in that group.

If we say Shrimp own 900,000 bitcoin between them, and each own <1 BTC, then there must be at least 900,000 Shrimp, but potentially up to several million.
If we say Humpbacks own 2,470,000 bitcoin between them, and each own >5000 BTC, then there must be at most 494 Humpbacks, but potentially even fewer.

I really doubt the correctness of this data! Looks kind of funny!

My confident guess: Most of these shrimps(and probably even a good chunk of the crabs) probably store their funds on exchanges(you know, Coinbase, Binance, Cash App, the usual) hence clumped up on the "exchange" category.

Analysts clarify that the calculations cannot show the true picture, they are rather superficial. The true division of bitcoin may look a little different.

1.Not all Bitcoin addresses should be treated equal. For instance, an exchange address holding the funds from millions of users needs to be distinguished from an individual's self-custody address.

2.A Bitcoin address is not an "account". One user can control multiple addresses, and one address can hold the funds from multiple users.

The classification look like using meme for the purpose of entertainment. Well, I feel the % of people at the lowest level is higher than that, but, I am convinced that the number of Whales is increasing due to recent surge in adoption.

We have many people who owns less than 1btc.

Most of the data collected would likely be by people submitting their proposed amounts, which is to susceptible to abuse to take seriously. Its like asking how big is your manhood, the majority of men will feel like they need to inflate it. So , although I get its for fun purposes, this isn't likely to be accurate in any sort of way. The only way, would be to collect statistics on those that sell on exchanges, and looking at their total amount traded. Even then, that's not completely accurate as I'm sure a lot of users don't trade their whole amounts, and only a percentage of their value in Bitcoin.

This. OP you should've created a poll instead of making people answer through a reply. Through a poll, at least people remain private and won't run the risk of being spear-phished or possibly doxed.

This categorization is for fun purposes,I guess. It isn't accurate enough to be taken seriously.
I'm in the Shrimp category, like most of the forum members.Maybe there are a few crabs or dolphins here. Grin
It's really surprising that the "shrimps" own only 4.9% of all Bitcoins in existence. This is a really small percentage.I'm expecting small BTC owners to own more than 10% of all BTC.
If such small amount of BTC is owned by the ordinary people, this means that BTC is mainly used for investment/crypto trading purposes, and it will never be adopted as a normal currency.
This is pretty much expected and kinda sad at the same time.
