Why?! We opened short term shorts at over 380... This is moreeee than good enough... people are getting too scarred to hit 275 again, it won't happen this year!

Well. I guess I can still lose money in altcoins. If I have to Undecided

The more pertinent question is who isnt buying!

Hmm ... How about ... 99.9999 % of the human population?

Almost everyone who've heard about bitcoin, view it as a scam or a pyramid scheme. They're not jumping aboard this "rocket ship".
The year of Bitcoin was 2013. 2014 was the beginning of the end, but we've still got a long way to go.

I have no idea where the price will go, but I haven't seen any confirmation that we are out of this bear market.

For now I am skimming from trades, but not adding any to my core position.

It's a good sign that the auction winners can dump 50k bitcoins and not drop the price back down to £300. Hopefully after they stop dumping the price might stand a chance of going up.

Why would anyone buy if you have 99.9% certainty it will be worth 5% less the next day. That is the definition of foolish.

Not everyone has that short of a trading plan. I'm buying at these prices (under $500) and holding for at least 3 years

There is not 99.9% chance it will be worth 5% less the next day!

When it will start going up it will take a lot of us by surprise.

Yeah im sure it will be one day, out of a sudden, like the last rally, totally unspected and a lot of people that didn't have BTC will cry again.

What is the point of that kind of manipulation when the real prices crashes right back to earth???

Who is buying? Well its quite simple; just like the central banks buy their own currency to support it the exchange operators are actively invovled in sustaining the price. If the worlds central banks do it, then why not exchange operators who have all inside information to make all the right moves.

Not sure if you realize it or not but the only reason we go up a few %'s somedays is simply due to short covering and bots trading between exchanges.
This is why even when we have dead cat bounces like this, they never hit the previous high before the dump happened. It's sad.
How does this not scare anyone that there is literally no buying volume anymore??

The current exchange rate is reflecting the ending of QE, and oil has dropped more than half because of that. In long run, QE must be restarted to keep the things going, since every aspect of the financial system today is already adopted to QE, without QE, a liquidity crisis will hit soon on major markets

And for bitcoin, I think many early adopters have stopped buying, since now you can only buy 1/100 or less bitcoin with same amount of fiat money comparing with a few years ago. Simply holding on to their existing coins will make things much easier. So the main purchasing support comes from the new people who was attracted since the 2013 bubble, just like those years after 2011 bubble, it will take some time for these people to build up their position, develop more infrastructure for bitcoin, and wait for the next reward halving/technology shift to get their investment reward

Currently the fiat money inflow channel is greatly limited (after chinese central bank closed major deposit channel towards chinese exchanges), a lot of work need to do to get banks fully cooperate with bitcoin business, and maybe this situation will get worse due to many regulatory issues from government. Banks close bitcoin business account mostly because there are so many fraud and drug dealing issues with those accounts and they get calls from police all the time

I bought in:
- 2nd half of 2011
- Fall 2012
- 1st half of 2013
and
- This week.

And sure, we may go down from here. I'm not arrogant enough to assume I can time markets perfectly; I just try to be on the right side of risk-reward, and the above time periods in the bitcoin market fit that description in my opinion.

So basically you are still losing money & you are arrogant enough to keep buying...
Like warren buffet said, you shouldn't keep trying to patch leaks on a boat that keeps leaking... Better off buying the dips in gold or something actually worth it

The dates Melbustus mentioned are all in heavily in the green...

I bought mid 2012, the first two months of 2013, and I've just started buying again last month.

Posts like this from the senior posters are worth 10,000 posts from newbie fools like 'fewcoins'.

Some people don't get it and want to criticize but they are actually fascinated by Bitcoin. One year between 300$ and 700$, no big ban of Bitcoin; it should count as a positive year!

I agree with Melbustus' approach but I didn't get started as early.

We are at 340$ which is low compared to the prices we have seen this year or exactly a year ago, we should not be surprised to see a small rise. Also Microsoft kind of accepted Bitcoin payments and short are covering when the price rises.

I'm buying regularly. I'm now using bitcoin almost everyday for all sort of stuff.

The greater the disconnect between price and various measures of ecosystem development, as well as general "feeling" of progress, the more bullish I become.

That's not to say the market can't be irrational for a very long time, of course, but I'll happily take advantage of an irrational Mr. Market any day to build long-term positions. Unlike some, I prefer to take positions on fundamentals and swing for the fences, as opposed to picking up a few percent here and there, cashing out on double-digit % rises and missing the triple(or quadruple)-digit rises.
