the dreaded double ** keeps popping up.  what the hell does that mean?

Mtgox' API is going wacky all the time. All the charting sites are having trouble as well in getting reliable feed. If the feed isn't reliable, Bitcoinica prevents any trading from happening until the feed is back up.

by then the market could have moved way beyond reasonable.  didn't i say this?

Yeah agreed. It's idiotic Mtgox is handling millions of dollars a week, yet they can't even get their API right... Unbelievable.

MtGox API is in migration or something like that, I think.  I'm messing around with coding a trade bot, and I get the "deprecation notice" every time I run it, talking about how the API will be changed starting 3/1/2012.  All this means for me is that I have to use some different methods, but hopefully this will also mean more solid connections for the charting sites (and whatever sources of info traders use that depend on Gox).

Mt. Gox API has two layers: the authenticated and the public. The price feeds we get are very reliable, and we can always track the highs and the lows regardless of how the charting sites fail.

But if we can't get proper connection to account API, we can't hedge. Hence the double asterisk.

Someone said that happens when bitcoinica cant make a good connection to Gox's api.  But who knows because Zhou doesnt answer questions or explain his site on his site.

One more reason for people not to use bitcoinica.

You can trade on 1:1 leverage and short, can not do this on other exchanges.

So who are the people willing to give Bitcoinica free money?

Trading an extremely volatile asset on leverage is quite a clever idea, really.
