My favorite will be the one who does the petty arithmetic for me and presents it to me on a plate when I place an order.

For Instance I want to spend exactly $50.00 buying at $13.7; they should then tell me exactly how many bitcoins that represents after taking out their commission.

So far I have failed to get it exactly right on three different exchanges, and arithmetic is supposed to be simple.

I would really like that. The user interface is sill very rough in almost every site... Camp BX's interface has a few advanced options, but lacks a simple feature like this one. I hope that it will improve with time. So for now I am only considering two factors to choose an exchange (the interface is not an option because it sucks everywhere): security and easy ways to deposit/withdraw.

I use VirtEx (Canadian). They can deposit directly into my bank account which is nice.

I've always like tradehill. Plenty of features... but yeah, the fees kind of feel high.

I heard that Mt. Gox has had trouble. I started an account at Ruxum, but I haven't traded yet. One problem with Ruxum is it charges a wire fee to put funds in. $10 I think.

CampBX is the only US based exchange adhering to US laws:

CampBX

  • Two factor Authentication (SMS)
  • Well written API
  • Payment Card Industry Certification
  • McAfee Secure Seal of Confidence
  • Margin Trading
  • Short-Selling

And here is a PHP library to interface with their API:

Tradehill and Camp BX. I don't like MtGox very much... Their client support is not very good and there are still many people complaining about the attack.

Tradehill is the second largest. They are very communicative here at the forums and they have just enabled euro transfers, which is a big plus for me. Camp BX is young, but they look very professional. They have some advanced trading options (such as short selling), but they're waiting until they have more volume to enable them... See my signature if you consider to sign up.

I've tried Tradehill so far, and I know of Mt Gox.  What are your favorite BTC exchange services?
