If there is anything like pump and dumps of big guys called whales, then their motives will be to drive the prices of bitcoin to a level traders will be discourage and they sell off very cheap for them to come back and resell at a higher price in the future.

Bitcoin isn't a bubble. It's the pin!

this is normal as the market goes, the more demand the higher the bitcoin value, and vice versa.
which is obviously a large whale will not be able to change the price of bitcoin.

Yeah, the pump in Bitcoin is just supply V demand. Funny enough, an increase in demand causes a rising price which then in turn further increases demand which further raises the price and so on until we have another bubble. For whatever reason, the small pumps we see are likely from whales stocking up some coins. I don't think that the price is artificially being held down though, you are right, one whale wouldn't have the power to do this.

Or

Pump and get the price of BTC and investors confidence up. In this instance I would hope the intentions are good!
No one can pump and dump bitcoin, in theory whales could do it if they are big enough but anyone will notice a huge movement of coins, so what we are seeing is just the natural movement of bitcoin in the market, get used to it because it is not going to change anytime soon.

Who or what is pumping dumping Bitcoin.

Here, FTFY! Smiley

What you're seeing right now isn't a pump IMO. It's a recovery from panic, depression, artificially induced, baseless fear. People want it to be worth more, the majority believes in it and wants it to become widely accepted. Temporary price falls and setbacks caused by hacks and an overwhelming amount of negative news in general, can't erase the fact that BTC is the future. That it's position is strengthening with every year of its existence on the financial markets.

sorry you are in the wrong board, here this is the board that you should be on: Altcoins board.
pump and dump is what is happening to altcoins not to bitcoin.

just because price is going up it doesn't mean it is a "pump". price has reached the bottom, couldn't go below the support which proved to be extra strong and now the trend (downtrend that has been going on for 7 months) is being reversed, so price is rising.

Seconded! Feeling like the market is due to turn around soon, the tech is advancing nicely. And pump Bitcoin lol it would take some gargantuan whales to be pump and dumping Bitcoin!

After buying the bitcoin at a low price, the whale will actively pump into the market, causing bitcoin prices to rise. After many people buy bitcoins at high prices, the whales will sell the entire bitcoin they have bought at low prices to make a profit.

Whales will play a very important role in a remarkable increase, of course, can quickly raise prices fluctuate to move every minute, then trust is also important because to give market confidence to encourage whales to buy on a large scale, then be patient all that there is bound to be a big dump risk as it is prone to manipulation.
Yes we cannot ignore the role of whales in pumping the price but i think that the price is trading too much low which attract more and more investors to do investment in bitcoin. I think that in current time the increase in bitcoin price is because of the increasing interest of the people, and i am hopeful that their interest in bitcoin investment will now continue for a long time because they have a very good opportunity to make money from bitcoin investment.

Perhaps the entire crypto currency is pumped up by large players who are profitable to sell at an expensive price and buy cheap. But this is not proven. I think in the next couple of years these sharp movements will stop and the market will show steady growth.

I'm not quite sure there's a pump and dump in bitcoin. one thing I believe and may happen is that bitcoin holders who still hold their coin or coin stolen from an exchange or trustee mt gox who still holds a large amount of coin who sells in bulk and buys it again to keep the price back high. now it seems like movement price pure from trader it self.

More holders still believes that bitcoin can be a great asset, that's why we seen that the price stabilized right now. This will help the entire bitcoin community to establish a momentum, in order for us to to develop more self control and be strong enough to handle situations that's crucial towards bitcoin price progress. Every trader should have that motivations, because we could encourage everyone day by day if we remain positive as well.

Your question is very strange, you want to know: " Who or what is pumping Bitcoin "

and then you ask this:

What are their motives:

To pump and dump.

Or

Pump and get the price of BTC and investors confidence up. In this instance I would hope the intentions are good!

all options do not seem to match bitcoin reality, so I do not understand your question and why the hell are you asking these questions?

I do not think that bitcoin prices can be pumped. This is simply due to the demand of the market affecting the price of bitcoin only

I agree

I think the whales are scared. If the price of the crypto market continues to fall, many will probably retreat from the market and, of course, only the whales will stay. So they will not be able to make a lot of money, and that is why they inject money into the market recently

Bitcoin is like a whale's trap. They are giving the pumps work to push the market and Bitcoin goes up. They push it up and pull it down to profit for themselves. And the profits they earn from the sea breams.

yes that's right
nowadays it is almost impossible Bitcoin price can be pumped
pump price can only be done on altcoin with a small marketcap and that does not have much exchange

Because Bitcoin is a digital currency that is fully controlled by the user, so I think pump and dump depend on how many users are selling and buying.
But usually, Bigwhales play in this situation. they are the ones doing the price movement.

Cant we be a bit positive? The price rise is very natural and it is not a pump. The price was supposed to go up and it is going. Don't create FUD and just spread positivity. Hope that the price soon will go up to a optimum level.

The price of bitcoin doesn't pump. It simply fluctuates. Either the price rises or goes down. However, mostly the fluctuation of demand and supple are responsible for the price ups and downs of bitcoin.

Yes, it is clear that bitcoin is not a pump and dump coin. It is not an ico coin and real or experienced  investors don't panic when hodling "our precious" btc because it must fluctuate up for anyone to exit if they want.

You are very right to advice him to make topic in altcoin forum not here. Bitcoin mining production cost is $5900 bitcoin going below that will have effect on bitcoin mining. So it will be kept between the range of mining. I always advice it will surely goes up even if it not immediately, but I'm confident that will surely goes up again. So take advantage of the opportunity and grab some bitcoin in your wallet.

Yes, why not? Price going up is pump, while price going down is dump. It is a common word for trader and its usually happening in the cryptocurrency market and also the stock market.
Quote from: Wikipedia link=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pump_and_dump
"Pump and dump" (P&D) is a form of securities fraud that involves artificially inflating the price of an owned stock through false and misleading positive statements, in order to sell the cheaply purchased stock at a higher price.

Actually most of businesses that already adopts bitcoin was trying to pump it up for them to retaliate their loss from that massive fall, it is somehow combined with whales and with people who wants to recover their losses anyways it cannot be determined whether it was for a good intention or not but that is not important as long as it has a good effect for the people who's taking advantage of the pump.

I used to believe pumping BTC is referred to as manipulation...BTC price can be manipulated either by high volume buy order fill or by strong FA... I think Wall Street traders are found of something like this when it comes to price manipulation.

Bitcoin today can't be manipulated literally unless it will be done intentionally by majority of large holders although chances are slim. It's just that they can create a positive and negative thing that may triggered a certain trend either uptrend or downtrend.

Going back to the OP's concern, I see that the price increase happened is just a normal price movement. We may also noticed that the increase is not continous and the price is playing within a certain level so in here we can see that everything is just a normal phase.

Just go with the flow. Manipulated or not, we can't do nothing about it.

I think OP have misunderstood about Bitcoin as Bitcoin is not a pump and dump coin as you can see that the price only is fluctuating and their is no chance of getting dumped and dead like other altcoins. Bitcoin will survive until their are other altcoins.

People continue to blame whales for causing drops in bitcoins and pumps, but the real cause of the damage is the greed of people who continue to pump bitcoin value, when in fact they know that bitcoin is not an investment tool but bitcoin is made as a means of payment.
And those who are constantly HODL, as if by holding and not using bitcoin as a means of payment, they can get everything. whereas, using bitcoin as a means of payment equals to maintaining viability of bitcoin.

Not every rise in the price of the bitcoin can be termed as a PUMP in the price and similarly not every decline in the price can be called as a DUMP in the price. It requires a continuous observation of the market to interpret something out of the crypto market. If it is the option II, i.e., Pump and get the price of BTC and investors confidence up, then of course what else is good for the bitcoin community.
No one or nothing is responsible for the price pump of Bitcoin. It's just the nature of it which goes ups and downs. If people buys Bitcoin to a large amount and hold it for long, the price gradually start increasing.
That is pretty much clear to those who have been into this space for quite a long time. It is the market forces of demand and supply that have a direct bearing on the prices of the bitcoin.

Whales are the one who controls bitcoin prices every time. Recently 250million Tether was printed. I guess that these are used slowly to pump up the price. This is pure manipulation indeed. I don't believe that we are yet done with the correction. This probably looks like a bear trap. It's possible that we ll go further upwards near 8000$ region. But still we ll go down to low 5k regions later.

Most likely the ones who have deep knees on the cryptocurrency. There isn't anyone who would have the motive to push it up knowing that it can be slammed down hard at any given time. I always think that this is a collaborative effort and not just the workings of a lone individual who has a large control of the market, otherwise no pushes will be successful at all. The reason as to why they do this, we don't know. It's likely that they do this to bait other people in buying in and insta-sell their holdings to make profit. It always happen in the markets.

They are manipulators of market, and their motive is obviously to earn huge by manipulating price of bitcoin by several tactics like spreading FUD and cashing out etc.
After this recent huge downfall one good thing that i have observed that many sensible bitcoin users didn't sell their bitcoins because they are now well aware of these evil moves by manipulators.
