Isn't TradeFortress one of the biggest scams in history? A lot of people stored coins on his wallet site.

I think this is the most unfortunate happening in the history of Bitcoin, hopefully it will not be happening again. That left a mark to users but also gave a chance to some people since the price plummeted down.

We don't know for sure, do we? but I believe that the last news were that the Russian guy who got arrested for money laundering had something to do with it. I'm still not sure If he is affiliated with BTC-E but If he is, he definitely did it well by hacking an exchange and creating his own in order to hide his traces and It definitely worked because funds are nowhere to find and something as big as 500$ million can't simply disappear.

This requires tremendous amounts or work and investments,and still it`s very easy to reveal that
this "exchange platform" is fake.I think it`s possible for 500 million btc to disappear.If they are distributed across lots of offline wallets/cold storage and the hacker owns the private keys.
To answer OPs question,i would say nobody.The biggest bitcoin heist in history will happen in the future.
I reckon plenty of existing exchanges are 100% rigged and have been since minute one. The amount of money they could've gouged may not be too far off Gox levels when it's all added up.

No one you ever heard of. That’s the definition of pulled off. Consider changing your title to who was caught trying to pull off the biggest heist. Remember we only hear about the the criminals that get caught, not the ones that got away with it...or ‘pulled it off’... those guys are living it out on a super yacht somewhere...
