Look at all of you. Coming to a forum online asking questions and throwing suspicions when a 5 seconds search on google asking "what is Tether USDT" and you will get simple answers. Stop spreading nonsense, I get so mad clicking threads and seeing ZERO good information.

So the token issuance is not decentralized? Quite risky in this case.

i don't know who is behind the tether because i am not trying to deposit or withdraw tether. i only know that tether can be used to buy altcoin in usdt trade and to buy and sell bitcoin too of course. i see there is a withdraw option in tether but i am not yet trying because the fee is too expensive. in poloniex, the fee is about $2 (if i am not wrong) and in bittrex the fee is about $5 (if i am not wrong).

for that fee, i'd rather to used usdt for buying altcoin and selling in the right price that i want.

If you think that's a red flag then back your bags and run for the hills.  There are many backroom deals and partnerships that the public doesn't know about so if that were true, I wouldn't be surprised.   Sad

I'm not even sure I understand it, but I'm now guessing that.

1) Tether is a blockchain (?)
2) Someone must be securing it....but how?
3) Any exchange that uses Tether is backing it on that exchange??

I am not sure if this is correct but I reckon Bitfinex is the backer of Tether. If you have tether-fiat then Bitfinex the exchange has the responsibility to convert them to real fiat if you choose to. Whether they really hold all the fiat to support all tether-fiat is wholly another topic.

So do you likewise think Poloniex is the backer of Tether traded on Poloniex?

I don't use Bitfinex much. Is their USD/BTC market done via the Tether blockchain too?

Tether is listed on Poloniex, so I presume Poloniex would have done some due diligence, but when i look at the Tether website, there is no information about who runs it or where they bank.

Who are they?

https://wallet.tether.to/transparency

They claim to be transparent but there is no transparency at all. None
