In my opinion, China must respect the boundaries given by UNCLOS. Here is a map:

The Chinese claim is in the red dash line, and it can be clearly seen that their claims don't have any historical or legal basis. The other nations need to stand unite, to fight against the Chinese bullying.

This nonsense greedy Chinese  don't have the rights to claim South China Sea. They tresspass the territory of the Philippines.

Everyone knows that, right? As an Indian citizen, I know how greedy the Chinese are. In 1962, they invaded India and captured more than 40,000 sq.km of legitimate Indian territory (Aksai Chin). On top of that, they are now demanding that India must cede Arunachal Pradesh (90,000 sq kms) to China. Nothing in this world can be compared to the Chinese greed.

China has been claiming a huge part of the territory of the Philippines over the South China Sea or also known as the West Philippine Sea, they are justifying their claim by saying that they have a historical right over that certain area due to the "9 dash line". However, following the UNCLOS, it is clear that the Philippines is the one that has right over that certain area. I want to know your stand and please do provide some supporting legal basis.
China's South China Sea dispute has been reported for a long time. The South China Sea is not China's, so countries will not let that happen. China has also been fighting for the Spratly and Paracel Islands. The Vietnamese people defend their territory.

Definitely think the countries in the area such as Vietnam, Philippines and Malaysia have more right over the South China Sea. China just wants to claim more territory for its fishing industry and is borderline invasion.

the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea — only goes so far in determining who's right. China says it has sovereignty over virtually all South China Sea islands and their adjacent waters.

It doesn't take an intelligent person to see that china is overextending their claim of sea sovereignity. The south china sea is vast and there are economic zones depending on which country covers the closest part to them. China knows that its neighbors can't match up to them militarily so it bullies smaller countries in that region

I think in all aspects the Philippines has really shown that it has supporting evidences which points that we have the right and the ownership for those territories. However i think that china has not heeded the call and has blatantly put up bases on it against the hague ruling.

South China Sea should be shared by all the neighboring nations - Vietnam, China, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan. But the problem is that they want 90% of it for themselves and will not refrain from using force to invade the islands which belong to the other nations. Countries other than China should unite to teach them a lesson.

Philippines has more right in West Philippine Sea, china always claim places they want to, It's already been decided by UN but they do not acknowledge it they insist on the so called right. it's loud and clear that the West Phil. Sea belong to the Philippines Maybe the reason they don't want to give it up is because of many rich oil in there... Filipino people should stand up for their right of Sovereignty over their territory do not give up and do not give in to this China even though they are powerful

Or maybe China.

Philippines. According to the philippine history, It was a gift to a Filipino,  former President Marcos, if i am not mistaken, for his help on a case. It was also written geographic textbooks in the Philippines.

China intended to encroach on the East Sea does not comply with the principle of territorial position. China once intended to invade Truong Sa, Paracel of Vietnam, but patriotic patriots defend their territory. They are now doing a lot of counterfeit goods to harm people.

Are you mentioning about the Battle of the Paracel Islands in 1974? If I am not wrong, then the Chinese were quite successful and they captured several of the islands which were previously under the Vietnamese control. These islands remains under the control of China even now. Vietnam lost more than 50 of its soldiers during the conflict.

China's claim with their dash lines are petty and laughable but their military isn't. There's already a ring made by the un council about tbhat and nobody seems to have the capability to challenge china and uphold that ruling. I'm not sure how the philippines and other countries are disputing this but china seems firm with its claim

Philippines has more rights on the West Philippine Sea. China is being greedy on their claim on the islands because of the allegedly rich deposits of minerals and oil. The nine dash claim of Beijing violates the sovereignty of the Philippines.

No, its not about the natural resources its about the control in the area. That part of the ocean has tons of ships crossing it they can make millions of dollar if they impose a fee each ship passes through it.

To find out who is entitled to the South China Sea depends on the deal of who is dispute in that area? in order to avoid tension in the southern chinese sea area in priority dialogue it in my opinion
If there is already a decision with the whole issue, why then is China not adhering to the solution already, the UNITED NATIONS should make a decision that settles this once and for all so that it doesn't run into an armed conflict.

I don't think that the Chinese are going to respect any decision being made by the United Nations. Anyway, they have the veto power in the UN (and Russia may also support them), so passing any resolution against China will be difficult. The dispute can only be resolved militarily. The United States must build military bases in the South China Sea islands.

It is more complex than that.South china sea is a vast sea with a lot of natural resources. All countries in the neighobourhood want their share,so personally in my opinion It should belong to no one but all the contesting countries should be allowed to drill for oil there Just like iran and iraq have shared oil fields in the shat-al-arab area.

I will do wonder for YOU!!!
There will be a time that they will also claim the Philippines stating that it is part of the business route... They say they have maps to support it.  You see, they are also sending some naval boats to Philippine rise even though it was located at the other part of the country or on the Pacific Ocean Side... So I think, China is trying to bully small countries like the Philippines where they think can easily be dominated when the war will actually arise.  They are not even trying to prevent or talk diplomacy to North Korea to stop their missile testing.  That will actually trigger a world war. Tsk tsk....

Whats the point again of debating this old issue? Its already done and the Philippines won. Its just the matter of enforcing it but it would take more years because China already built military bases on the islands.

Its the fault of the Philippines for not defending their own territory, you let them rape you.

this is an image China has been building in your own territory and you didn't done anything since 2014 while they are enjoying raping your country
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/07/30/world/asia/what-china-has-been-building-in-the-south-china-sea.html?mcubz=3

If you relly on your allies it could trigger a war remember when U.S got involved in S.China Sea they are provoking China and your country would be another war zone

Difficult to say, probably the one who has the force to take it. We could also ask: who has more right over the Falklands islands?

Good luck getting the UN to do anything about it. And good luck with America making good with its "commitment" to keep the sea lanes open.

They were already illegal. No change there. It’s questionable whether China ever even bothered to assert they were “legal” in the sense of coming from international maritime law. They were always unilateral assertions based on vague “historic rights”. In 2009 China’s response to UNCLOS was the dashed-line map and no further explanation. There is still no agreement on what the line means. One of the other answers to this question asserts China does not claim rights over the waters of the sea, and at least one other Chinese on Quora has asserted this also. Other Chinese disagree completely. In China it is not important whether the claim is well-defined, it’s important whether you pledge allegiance to it.

border disputes are just issues meant to rile up the citizens so they think there isn't one entity ruling over everyone. do you really think the chinese elite and the western elite care who controls that area? no. they all profit from it.
