The problems of author’s rights and authenticity of works in art-industry have always existed! Walking through the most famous museums and galleries you can often see the inscription: "unknown artist". There even organized exhibitions of the paintings of artists whose authorship could not be determined.
Thanks to modern technologies, the problems of this kind will probably disappear from the world of art forever!
The blockchain technology becomes more and more active, penetrating various spheres of life, including the “eternal” problems of the art market. The participants of art industry have already begun to use new technologies. One of the pioneers using blockchain technologies in art is the TILCOIN project.
TILCOIN is an international project and an art platform based on blockchain technologies. The technology allows saving art objects, their provenance and protecting them from different manipulations and falsification with the help of blockchain, to buy and sell virtual fragment of a picture’s seriography, which can be printed in high resolution.
TILCOIN provides the opportunity to learn everything you need to know about a painting, in just one click: the name of the artist, the title, a description, the current location, the contact information of the gallery or the museum, etc. The information is fixed using the Ethereum blockchain, the key characteristic of which is that the information entered cannot be altered.
The blockchain operates as an open database where information about transactions is stored: a record of each new transaction is fixed not in one centralized accounting log, but instantly appears in a wide computer network. Despite the fact that it is publicly available, it can only be used with a certain cryptographic key. Each new transaction leaves an unchangeable footprint, so security in the blockchain technology is initially incorporated at the database level.
This will make the art market open and understandable, more transparent, and one of the main problems will be solved.
All the information about art objects is available through a convenient online account, which lists all the provenance data for the artwork (information about the artist, ownership history, past exhibitions, expert opinions, etc.), and include a record of all your operations within TILCOIN.
Well, it would be not like the old days when art market was called the last unregulated market, thanks to such decentralized digital registry as blockchain it would be possible to keep track of all transactions connected with art work without using paper documents(often unreliable), supporting its provenance.
