The average person in the crypto market is not the same as the average person in the stock market.
Global events (regulations, etc.) tend to put pressure on the crypto market.
The crypto market was also overhyped in January, imo.

People tend to have weak hands in the crypto market, as soon as prices start going down.
It's sort of the, if everyone is selling i should sell, kind of thinking.

Personally, i just hodl everything.
The important thing is to have a plan ahead of time.

Oddly enough, i'm somewhat happy the market is down because now everything is cheaper to buy.

Because crypto just like all other investment platforms or businesses has its ups and downs. It kind of works like a Lifeline. Yes, the machine you see in hospitals which tells if a patient is alive or vice versa. its like that.
so it is true with investing in crypto. It isn’t going up all the way. No investment platform will go that direction. The falls is what makes the ups more profitable, or in finance what they call speculation, It is the practice of engaging in risky financial transactions in an attempt to profit from short term fluctuations in the market value. This is just part of the process, its cycle.

There are a lot of reasons as to why the crypto market drops. First you have to remember that the whole market is volatile because much of the market is speculation. Not all projects but I would say most of them are based off speculation or scam. Remember that there are at least over 1,200 crypto coins and possibly many more to come. Another reason why the market can keep dropping is because of the fud that gets thrown around. It's obvious that whenever a mainstream source in the news talks about btc, they don't every really do their research or refuse to and talk trash about how it's not real money. lol And that brings up the last thing that can really cause downtrends is btc itself. The cryptomarket usually follows what btc does, but this will all change in the coming years as more and more projects come out with more utility and better word of mouth for btc as it's realized as a store of value and payment system rather than just a use for daily currency.

Maybe because there are more seller of bitcoins rather than buyers or investors.Sometimes in business,we can't control the price in the market because it is always depends on the demands.Even if you have enough supply but if there is no demand, still the price will goes down.

Aside the technical explanations that comes with it,which i cant explain clearly Grin Grin, it can also be noticed that dropping in price has always being an issue at the beginning of the year for the past few years. Just check the trends for prices in the early months of the past three or four years and you will realize that it is normal for them to drop at this time of the year.
At this time of year, there are many holidays and a lot of expenses. To get more money - is sold more than a crypto currency. Large sales - prices are falling.

Most of people don't like to trust the BTC. They always think BTC will vanish suddenly & they'll lost their investments.  So when price of BTC drops, those kind of people goes to panic mode & sell their coins to take profits as soon as possible. That is a one reason & some other reasons are regulations of Governments like China & Korea.

If everything is dropping, it's typically normal market movement. They tend to rebound in unison after a while, too. It looks like Bitcoin has hit a record low, but you honestly shouldn't worry about it. Things like this happen all the time. It may seem daunting if you're new to crypto, but at some point you'll just learn to dismiss it. The sooner you can do that, the better.

Meanwhile, here's an article that tries to explain why the market isn't doing too well right now:

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/apos-why-bitcoin-ethereum-ripple-202800064.html

Emphasis on tries, because no one really knows for sure why the market moves the way it does. If it truly is caused by the Bitfinex issue, then we may be stuck in a rut for a while. This whole issue about Tethers was just a disaster waiting to happen from the start.

Thank you for your detailed response. I appreciate it..
Great info. Tnx dude.

It will rise and fall.. but rise again! no need to start panicking, just hold on to your cryptos and buy more at a good price Wink when there's an increase in Bitcoin, it also provides green figures for the rest of the market.

Altcoins do not really drop much in BTC and Eth prices. It's just that CMC shows prices in USD. 0.01 Eth is worth $12 when Eth is $1200 But when Eth drops to $900 that 0.01 goes down to only $9. So altcoins being traded via Ethereum goes down in USD prices as well even though their Eth price didn't move down.

There is so many factors which impact crypto currencies! Just recalling recent happenings, the dropping stock exchange markets for sure had a negative impact on btc and other currencies. Then there is the SEC which is trying to find an approach how to safeguard investors. Chineses government who is setting strict rules and even prohibiting any token sales.

because similar to other emerging markets, the crypto market is small, unstable, irrational and filled with unsophisticated players with little or no information to guide their decision making - which magnifies the herd effect leading to immense fluctuations in price.

Because most of the exchanges are using BTC to buy altcoins thus when BTC falls the sat wise value of coin per USD/fiat will drop and when BTC goes up sat value also goes up, it also affects other trading pairs if the volume of BTC pair is higher (AKA arbitrage trading) the pair will lower value will be bought more and will be sold to the pair with higher value until in balance out.

But not yet known whether Facebook will actually prohibit advertising about bitcoin and similar Dan Facebook juga akan melarang adanya periklanan di dalam Facebook itu sendiri. It looks like Bitcoin has hit a record low, but you honestly shouldn't worry about it.

Record low?  I sold 35 bitcoins for $10 a piece a few years ago.  $10 is certainly lower than the price it is at now.

No such thing as a "record low" right now, unless you are speaking over a time period.

Frauds and false news have driven to collapse the market these sellers panic they do not know how to handle this scenario. They end up selling a large part of their funds. I believe that there are many people who have lost millions with bad investments. Unless they have changed their assets on time.

Does BTC control the market through the price fluctuations? BTC has been running lower in recent weeks and this knock-on effect has been seen in other currencies too. Is the driver from people selling up altcurrency and investing in BTC at a lower price, meaning we are likely to see another rise in BTC prices soon? Or is that a far too simplistic way to look at the market currently?

I am assuming that you are monitoring the price movements of crypto players at least for last 6 months. As we all know that there was huge rally took place in the price of almost all major coins in that period and those who made profits during the rally are now selling their investments. This is kind of correction process which helps Bitcoin to stabilize the price and grow in the long run.

well there might be a lot of factors. there was a huge bull run in december up until mid january . there is always bound to be a correction when prices skyrocket . and then there was the FUD about korea banning cryptocurrencies, and china banning mining , and then the hacking of the japanese exchange , and then the whole USDT fiasco. its probably not just one factor , everything comes together to cause the drops . but its crypto and what goes up must come down and vice versa if its a bitconnect type of thing.

Alot of panic selling i suspect. When bitcoin falls the rest follow suit....like a domino effect but it will calm down and return to business as usual. With that said this does present a great opportunity for anyone new to enter the crypto space as prices are very attractive.
