Thanks for the replies. To clarify, this has been an issue for me for a long time, not just because it is the holidays. I understand the wanting to stay out of disputes, but the problem is this aversion to making a choice ironically will lead to more disputes and off topic BS. I am fine with keeping things on topic, but if I can't get off topic posts removed then I am often compelled to respond to them off topic. I am not going to sit idly by and be attacked by various clowns for the sake of forum rules if they aren't going to be enforced, and I am sure I am not the only one.

So as you see the aversion to get involved will in fact result in more off topic posting, then eventually people start ignoring the rule completely, then the mods are forced to go on a rampage again to reinstate the standard. IMO it would be best to just do your best to make objective decisions about these kinds of reports instead of just avoiding them.

That will be the total number of unhandled reports he's made. The unhandled reports get expunged after a while so they're not in the queue any more.

Ah, that figures. Thanks for clarifying.

I've got 4192 unhandled reports... unhandled reports are no big deal. Tongue

4192!? If I'm a mod, like hell I'm gonna sift through those reports! Cheesy

I have almost a full page of unhandled reports, some of them weeks old. This is the kind of thing that suggests to me staff pick and choose who they want to enforce the rules for. This is consistently an issue as these reports simply fall off the page before being handled. Does anyone else get so many reports left unhandled?

Staff members can chose to handle or ignore any reports as there's no obligation to do so, but I don't think yours will be ignored for anything personal. In my case I usually don't get involved in drama spats as there's often too much to look into to get the whole story and acting on something when you haven't got the full picture often just leads to more drama and complaints. You remove posts from one side and then the other complains that they're being unfairly treated or we're 'selectively enforcing' rules so you can't really win. I am just one staff member though and there are handful of Globals who can handle any report in the queue so I can't speak for why they haven't acted on them either but I suspect they probably just leave them for similar reasons.

my record is 461 good 10 not handled 8 bad.

but i am on a 165 streak of good.

since i was once 296 good 10 not handled 8 bad.

since 90% of my reports are spam bad links and on the mining section i would expect good numbers like i have.

I have noticed this thing about unhandled reports recently. For example I reported complete shitpost which is also offtopic and after half day it's still unhandled. Previously mods reacted much faster.
But I don't that we need to make conspiracy theories about mods being selective and ignoring these reports.
I agree with posts above - main reasons of it is Christmas period and mods are have less time like most of us. It's normal and understandable. Being mod isn't full time job and we shouldn't expect that they will handle reports 24/7.

Yes, and I've noticed more than usual over the last week or so. I assume it's because staff have lives outside the forum and it's almost Christmas, as opposed to them discriminating against any particular user.

I have a report for barn door plagiarism that is sitting unhandled (and these always get dealt with in my experience), so I assume the mods are just busy and there's a bit of a backlog to work through.

How many reports get a "good"? If there are a lot of them "based on your previous records," this means that you are sending reports to the "grey area" (weak bad.)

It's not about the report history, but it's that time of the year when everyone prefers to celebrate. After all, it's the end of the year so expect families to gather and do some shopping.

Each staffs have different ways to handle reports so they have different perspectives I think.
The unofficial rules emphasize that step of rules interpretation:
23. When deciding if a user has broken the rules, the staff have the right to follow their interpretation of the rules.[e]
There are some answers for this question, I found:
For example, I've learned that leaving reports unhandled is the best thing to do in certain scenarios where as before I used to assume that was bad, and you needed to handle as many as possible.

Unhandled reports basically just mean there has no action been taken. If a report has been sat there for a few days, and its still unhandled its likely that a moderator couldn't decide whether the report was correct or incorrect. They are then considered as "soft" bad reports, but don't impact your percentage. There can be a variety of reasons why the report hasn't been dealt with, but usually because the staff members are unsure what to do.

Since the beggining of my adventure here ~4.3% of my reports have gone unhandled. If you have more than that maybe it's a grey area the mods don't want to touch or they just don't know how to handle it. Just my 2 satoshis.
I'm at 3.96% unhandled reports.
In my experience, it is indeed the "gray area" reports for which Mods give the poster the benefit of the doubt, while the reporter gets the benefit of the doubt too by not marking it as "bad". When unsure, don't Mod!
Clear spam is usually removed quickly.

@TECSHARE: would you mind posting links to the reported posts here?

Holidays. Previously they were handled but recently I have 1 unhandled too.

Maybe dont forget that Christmas is in a few days and some of the Mods maybe handle there real life also for that !
How many good reports? If there are some, I do not think it is the effect of holidays.
Don't forget, we are in a forum that includes many countries, so it is difficult to find consensus on one vacation for all members of the forum.
The effect may be evident in some local boards.

I have same experience previously, almost one page were unhandled even post were removed. I can't remember the thread but I got answers that posts were already reported by some other users and handled. Since Inreported them from patrol, so there is high chances that post could reported by multiple users. Are you sure that your reported post still exist ? If it is, then moderators think reported post doesn't deserve any action. So there two reason I found why post would be marked unhandled. One is reported by some others second is moderators didn't found appropriate action.

Were those from "beginners and help" board?
'Coz I also got a few unhandled reports there, specially the one obvious copy-paste of a post 8 replies away.
I've indicated the link to the original post, IDK why that particular reports was missed.

For the record, there's no prob with my reports from other threads.

-edit-
B&H board's mod last login was April 04, 2018, 09:24:05 PM.
So only our busy global moderators or admin(s) handle the reports.

Probably this is what really happens as @theymos says.
"Unhandled" means that every moderator with jurisdiction over the post was unsure about the correct thing to do with the post and so left it for other mods to deal with, but no mod ever decided to act on it. I suppose it can be thought of as a "weak bad", though it's ignored for your accuracy percentage.

Every MOD has its own perspective view in handling reports and it might be this is an accurate answer regarding unhandled reports. As of now let assume MOD also busy on their real life.

Just curious on this, when MOD received double results from different users and it is good report, are they received both good reports count?
I even have a few unhandled reports.

I think they're so backed up handling actmynames thousands of reports, they don't have time for anyone else's reports.

All joking aside I think Chris! Is giving you the best answer. Sometimes mods aren't sure or it's a grey area.

TECSHARE, are you concerned about a particular member's posts?

Knowing TECSHARE it's definitely personal Smiley

I have nearly 600 unhandled reports. I don't think there is much to be concerned about. I did my part and if moderators (multiple ones most likely) skipped it over then my report was shit and that's the end of it. Unless it's malware or something egregious like that but I've never had egregious stuff staying unhandled.

I don't know, as I don't even pay attention to how my reports are handled and never have.  Moderators are going to do whatever they're going to do, and as mentioned each section probably has different standards because they have different mods.

TECSHARE, are you concerned about a particular member's posts?  I'm wondering if you're feuding with someone and if that's the reason why you're asking this question.  But regardless of whether that's the deal here, the way I see it is if you reported a garbage post, an off-topic one, or whatever, you've done your part and leave it to the mods to either act on it or not.  There's not much you can do, and that hasn't changed since you've been a member here.  That's been a lot longer than me or most members here, by the way.  You ought to know that a lot of reports just die off with no action.

I just have 2 unhandled reports but my total reports are not as many as yours, I guess. You may have hundreds or thousands of reports, right? Those unhandled reports may happen because of those reports are not the priority for moderators. There are thousands of reports, moderators must take a lot of time to check all. They probably divide into urgent reports and not urgent reports. The urgent ones should be the priority to handle firstly.

Moderators have a different point of view so the boards are moderated differently.

There are some boards where the moderator is too kind so for example if you report a post that you think needs to be moderated, there is a chance it won't be. In any other section, it would have been moderated without question (even the Off-topic board)

I tested it with several types of posts and different mods, since I know which post to not report, to not waste my time and their because I know it will stay "unhandled" or even "bad"
