I had the same question
Why is it that big companies are not funding and starting it themselves rather than people raising money through ICOs?
Till now, Ripple is the only crypto which has backing from big companies

For most of those Internet companies their data is their treasure. Facebook uses data to target ads, Amazon to suggest products you'd want to buy based on previous purchases or views and so on. Sharing their data means giving up core of revenue.

Besides that it doesn't solve any business problems, so what's the point.

Do not trust the government
Because those companies are centralized and they earn money from being central points in a certain system. Blockchain is good only for decentralization and even only certain types of it (where order of data is important). It doesn't really make sense for companies to give away their power to people, at least not in the short term. They will only use blockchain if they have to, so people don't use it without them.

If blockchain was truly revolutionary, why wouldn't top tech firms like Facebook, Amazon, Google, and Apple be doing more with it?

Looking forward to hearing different voices!
