Anyone who wants a 100% pre-order instead of a 10% deposit needs the funds to finance development and/or production.

How many ASIC companies are taking a 10% deposit?

The difference is that BFL declared they were not touching the pre-order funds. So they shouldn't have needed to take the risk of holding 100% of the money, they could have taken a 10% deposit, unless they were a scam. Then of course they wouldn't leave 90% of the money on the table.
All the other companies were up front about using the funds to finance NRE and production, so they were up front about what they were using the funds for.

Love to see the books, I bet you dollars to donuts if they opened the books, you would see they spent a lot of that pre-order cash very early on. If they were legit they would have refunded people when they realized they couldn't deliver on time and to specification. Shady is BFL. Time to boycott them and put them out of biz.

Even if BFL ships those MONARCHS on DEC 2013...

Profit is still very low:

http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/f068ec2473

Is there anything that will be more profitable than the Monarch (if it ever really shows up)?
xCrowd, if not a scam.

Timing is everything. The price of a product, however competitive means squat if a more expensive device gets a significant lead on ROI before network saturation becomes so significant later, reputedly more efficient devices are made redundant before they get a chance to compete for the customer.

What I'm most confused about w.r.t. BFL and especially x-crowd. Is why pre-order at all when both are supposedly fully-funded. I mean admittedly BFL is using a delay tactic to transfer disgruntled customers. But x-crowd claim so valiantly they don't need to touch pre-order funds. But insist in collecting them anyway?!

quote BFL forum

"Guys, stop being so negative about BFL. You are all going to be upset when they deliver in December. I cant wait to get mine."

https://forums.butterflylabs.com/hardware-discussion/4360-new-bfl-device-28nm-mining-card-9.html#post52865

"I'm not biting on the preorder business for this product. For one, there's no telling where the difficulty will be in December or what competitors will be offering then. For another, I think BFL is finally working out some of their supply line issues, so if I do decide I want one, why not wait until the product is actually out this time? It shouldn't be nearly as long a wait this time.

They are just tying up money. People only have so much spending power. If your money gets locked in a preorder it can't be spent elsewhere.

Fake customer support... that's a new low
Your $4mil at work
That confirms he is using socks.

And the following confirms he doesn't use them.

I wonder where the foul mouthed BFL spokesdude has gone too. The silence is deafening. Hello? If you miss your daily quota of personal attacks and trolling accusations, this is going to reflect badly in your performance review under the "productivity" section. Please think of the children and save Christmas.

Are you so dense that you haven't figured it out yet?  I only come in here and whip up the natives when the BFL mania dies down.  Right now, it's a raging fire, you don't need my input.  The top 10+ threads in the hardware forum are all about BFL.  If things start dying down again, I'll post more.

...and they're mostly debates about whether BFL is staffed by idiots or thieves.

You are one of my best workers Smiley  I appreciate you more than you know.

Thank you! Must be nice saving all the effort of creating sockpuppet accounts yourself.

Absolutely!  I don't believe in sock puppet accounts, I just get people like you to post constantly.

I know this, you know this.

It's as bad as those pretending to guarantee refunds off their own steam, unanswerable to a third party ageeeing to assume liability on behalf of the customers.

More gambling with customer monies without accountability.
I do like the idea of John K. escrow with xCrowd, but I haven't seen anything from him on the situation yet.

Muahahahah. I'm going to make a pre-order for development of a time machine that's limited to 1,000 orders for 1,000 BTC each. No CC. No PP. Just BTC. Now, we are guaranteeing delivery in two weeks. Now, if this two weeks winds up taking us, say, 50 years, it will be okay. Because our Uber product will provide transportation to those who pre-ordered back to two weeks from announcement. You will receive your time machines at this time, and they are programmed to take you back to when BTC was FIRST launched! This will allow you ALL to stockpile BTC until the roof of your house falls off because you have HDD's and USB sticks stacked to the wall with wallet.dat files on them. Now, for your spot in line, please send a 50% stake to hold your pre-order spot. The address is in my sig. REMEMBER!!! WE GUARANTEE DELIVERY IN TWO WEEKS!!!!

Hahahahaha +1.

It has not been 14 months, please don't post false information. The maximum anyone has waited is less than 9 months. I realize 9 months is a long time, but 14 months is ridiculous and completely false.

I just realized that 9 months is now 10 months. Luckily it was put in perspective showing that it's not as ridiculous as 14 months.

There he went and did it.  Gave 'em the idea.

Well, this was a weekend that will live in the annals of the Bitcoin.  The Great and Glorious Oz pulls a 28-er out from behind the curtain.  And, ironically, when Dorothy woke up she discovered she was back in Kansas, from which she had been taken by the whirlwind.

Good night.  To mix metaphors, who knows what may come in on the tide tomorrow?

I have 2 pre-april orders, one for a Single, and one for a LS. Can I combine the two into a single card and pay the difference in BTC? I sent a message to customer support, but I fear they will be a while getting back to me. Also, does upgrading hold a relative place in the 28nm queue, or is this a new first come first serve queue?

I have the same question and I also sent an email to customer service for support. Anyone know how to successfully do this? When I click to transfer a second order, I only have the option to credit a new Monarch order.

I think this is the exact same mentality as people who fall into pyramid schemes or other bullshit scams. They see an easy way to make money and are ready to go all in without doing any research, without thinking, without any other thoughts. The flashing dollar signs disable all cognitive abilities.

And the world keeps turning, while asshats make money off these gullible morons.

Hi, id like to know whats the difference between the "The Monarch" that pulls 600gh/s and a Minirig that pulls 500gh/s, apart from the price wich is 4k vs 20k.
Is it really that way better than a minirig?

And if i purchased today, would i really be receiving it by December?
Im an old "customer" that had order by august 2012, but needed a refund because financial issues in real, and seen things not moving around here.... but now im ok in real again and wanting to invest, so would like some info about this Monarch.

Thanks
