Thank you DdmrDdmr, I understand the reason behind the restriction now. As you said before, my account became a Jr. Member today and I'm now able to participate in Serious Discussion.

I see that I also have an option to lock this topic and I'm going to use that since my questions have been answered.

<...> I still do not understand why there is an account restriction on certain parts of the forum <...>
The rank requirements were lower to begin with, and you were not even required to be a Jr. Member to post in Serious Discussion to begin with. It didn’t take long (less than a day) though to see a bunch of low quality content that moved the rank requirement up one degree:

I created two boards:

 - Serious discussion. No limit on topic, but moderation of on-topicness and general sanity will be extra harsh. No advertising of any kind. Signatures are not displayed.
 - Ivory Tower. As above, but you must be at least a Member in order to post there.

Currently these boards are not treated specially in the activity calculation. I'm currently feeling that:
 - Removing them totally from the activity calculation is kind of unfair to posters there.
 - Allowing them just to activate a potential-activity period isn't much different from treating them normally for activity.
 - Treating them normally for activity won't be so bad, maybe.

But we'll see how it goes. These boards are largely experimental.

Update:

Quote
I see that newbies were already posting junk in Serious Discussion, so I made changes:
 - The member limitations are moved up one rank. You must be a Jr Member to post in Serious Discussion and a Full Member to post in Ivory Tower
 - Posts in Serious Discussion only activate an potential-activity period. They do not increase your post count.
 - Posts in Ivory Tower neither activate a potential-activity period nor increase your post count.

Bear in mind that Jr. Member did not require merits until the 17/09/2018, so it was a pretty simple barrier to surpass until then (see Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements for Jr. Members).

I still do not understand why there is an account restriction on certain parts of the forum but thank you all for responding.
Lower ranks restricted due to the objective of those section which discuss serious topics. Also rules state that only serious comment and response would be accepted. Even bad english construction could be deleted. I guess its just an entry level that you must be at least Full member (Know already some basic stuffs here on forum) before you can join discussion there. Not really sure but this is what I've think.

I think I got more than what I asked for. I will be reading more on forum rules and policies. I still do not understand why there is an account restriction on certain parts of the forum but thank you all for responding.

It's meant to deter newbies asking repeated questions of simply trolling.

And if that's deterrent enough, there's the Ivory Tower, which unlocks once you've ranked up to Full Member. That section is so serious that joking gets you banned.

you can't move into a new environment and expect to interact with the residents. you need to understand and learn about the new environment before communicating. try stick around and learn alot from the platform before you are allowed into the serious discussion forum.

As mentioned above, You need to become at least a Jr. Member to post on Serious Discussion (Full Member for Ivory Tower).

Looking over the Activity Calendar (*), and taking into account the number of posts you’ve made between during this current Activity window (3/11/2020 1:26:40 .. 3/25/2020 1:33:20), you should rank-up to Jr. Member this coming Wednesday, and therefore gain access to posting in Serious Discussion.

(*) See: TIL Activity does not work on precisely 2 week intervals + interval timings.

OP, You must be familiar with the rules because each board you will visit usually has a different set of rules. Just like on a serious discussion board, you will know the rules that apply there if you are observant and want to spend a little time reading. Therefore, start reading and you will know the complete rules for a serious discussion board.

Or if you really want to post there that bad, you can pay for a Copper member[1]
Without urgent, in my opinion the OP does not need to buy copper members because in the coming days the OP will become a junior member, and since then the OP can post something there according to the rules in force.

It's not possible to post there until you become a Junior member.

Or if you really want to post there that bad, you can pay for a Copper member[1] rank to automatically give you member privileges. You're just 2 activity points away from Jr member though.

Just to add what MadGamer said, your Activity level is too low.

You are already a Junior Member but on this forum, Activity also plays a role so you have to wait 1.5 months after receiving your first Merit to rank up.

If you read the rules (sticky), you would've known. It's not possible to post there until you become a Junior member.

There are a number of interesting topics on Serious Discussion that I have been reading. I also wanted to share my opinion in some of them but I cannot find the "reply" option unlike in other topics.  I can only see the "watch", "notify", and other options. Why is that? Is it another forum restriction?
