Gavin Andreesen cleaned up a lot of the code to close down exploits - bitcoin owes him a lot.
"As bugs were fixed, messy code tidied up, and new features added, most of what Nakamoto wrote disappeared.
Under one-third of Nakamoto’s code still remains. “He was a brilliant coder, but it was quirky,” says Andresen."

And Vitalik is not even a professional Dev, more like the "Chief Scientist" of the Ethereum Project...
Ethereum was financed with $18 million of which about 50% was spent on elite coders under deadlines...
And they delivered a working platform which, after a dozen hard forks, has more Devs working on it than Bitcoin.
There is a lot to be said for delivering a working platform in a few months...
NXT, STEEM and others were very focused and delivered... MAID and AMP have failed to deliver anything usable.
