Depends who is asking. If you are referring to family members or friends. I would give them good advice for free. I mean, if you can not be nice to love ones. Who can you be?

There's nothing wrong with being thrifty but there should be things that we need to consider like safety and convenience. I experienced the same situation you are in, people seek advise because they don't understand the things that they will buy. Especially old people who doesn't know technology, they really need help in purchasing things that they are not aware of. For me, its okay to share your knowledge as long as they won't bother you or get in your way when you have to do something.

It happens all the time. People want advice about what computer to buy, what kind of other tool to buy etc. They don't wan to pay for this advice. The answer is usually that there is something far smaller or cheaper that will suit their needs just fine or work much better than what they were going to buy before.

Will they pay me $2 for advice? Never. Will they buy a $15 book filled with honest information? Never. Will they go out on the Internet (Google) and go to some free blog post that has an interest in the product being sold and get bad advice? All the time. Will they spend $400 instead of $250 for something of inferior quality? Usually. Will they give me any money at all for letting them know that they can buy the same thing for $250 instead of? NEVER!

It must be arrogance where they think that they know what they're doing and don't want to admit lack of knowledge or that their usualy information sources are dishonest. As long as they don't know that they're getting ripped off they're happy about it.

This is just an example of "Why people always want things which are free?". Then end up getting ripped off doing so.

Because we don't appreciate or we don't actually know the hard work behind the advise, the hours of study and reading and so on.

If you earn your knowledge for free why not share it to others as help for them. Especially if you can help them to improve their lives. While on the other hand there are lot of scams online wherein they make you pay for nothing and give you some ebook that is not worthy.

Because they don't want to go to a psychologist for example. Because the thought alone of this already frightens them. Although in fact there is nothing in this. Because of this, people ask for advice from others.

Humans are not only greedy but at the same time cheap and want the best deals possible at every moment. This is why people want free things and probably because most of the world is quite poor and can't afford to hand out money at every instance.

Because man is a social being. He always needs to know the opinions of other people. We have a kind of dependence on the councils.

Sharing is caring and Something must be done for free for the sake of humanity. On the other hand, If You do not want to help people for free , you should ask for it. You should price your advices and as a result of this , people can give you money for your help.

The internet has changed things, most advice that is not totally esoteric or highly specific, can be gotten or found on the internet for free. This could be part of a large discussion or a forum etc. and will likely be more informed, newer, and better then that of some so called professional(s). There are of course exceptions..

People usually believe that things like advice should be free because they wouldn't follow every advice they recieve. People wouldn't want to give something they got from their hard work to someone who would tell them things that they might not even find useful.

Like they say that the ebst things in life are free. If you are the adviser, of course it will be your pleasure to exrend your service to those in need. This thing is called humanity.

So what's the deal, just tell them your recommendations aren't for free.
I'm more annoyed by people who strive to tell you their opinion and advice when you don't ask too... that is also the problem  Cheesy
I see no problem with that.  It's either you ask them to pay or neglect them at all.  If a person wants everything for free, and you want it be payed,  tell them.  It's a matter of communication.

I think that what you are suggesting is something that values money more than camaraderie and friendship or helping people. ADvices are seeked from people who are for the people who asked are experts or knows something fat more than what they have in that concern. And this are and should be free
I'm not sure that I understand everything you said but it kind of sounds like you have the attitude of the people who I am talking about. Those who insist that advice must be free and don't care at all if it's bad advice that could cost thousands of dollars in the long term.

Aren't you happy when you helped out someone willingly without having in return? That is how God will bless you the most. And why is it you are too much concern about getting paid for what you've known? I don't know, man. I think that's selfishness.
No! The concern is for the people who are using free sources of advice without understanding that advice that comes free is generally bad advice.

The Internet is really changing things. In the past people asked their friends for advice. Now it's all about getting information from the Internet. This Internet (blog post, message board, chatroom, etc) information is free unless you count the advertisements. There are hardly any for pay advice sites except maybe a few like ExpertsExchange. Well hardly anyone puts good advice out on the Internet for free. There are thousands of people out on message boards and chatrooms and blog sites putting out false information to lead people to buy new computers when they don't need to. These sites have higher rankings in search engines which are part of the tech industry and are involved in playing this game. Billions of dollars are spent each year due to unnecessary purchases because someone was told that buying a replacement product was the best way.

Pretty simple, everyone will want something for nothing! Since all our life we have to work for something that we want. Now of course we want to gain something without actually doing something. Why do you think people bet on powerball? Lottery? It's to gain an incredible amount of something for something insubstantial. What more for advise? Advise are just words, and they thought that it was for free since the effort to give it is insubstantial
