Plagiarism is actually stealing or taking from someone's else's projects, without full approval of the original owner of the work.....been one's self and discipline his/her self over taking a work that doesn't belongs to you....been creative by reading a vast amount of books from different sources, taking from the author's work and referencing him ain't bad as it shows we had an idea from he's work.
The Consequences cannot be avoided after Plagiarism, definitely those involved in this will definitely be caught and be penalized....so as to avoid been caught we should all venture into making up our own creative works without trying to steal from anyone.

The post was not deleted because the article is helpful to everyone, and some of his posts may be deleted.
Don't copy. This is disrespect for the people on our forum. If you really need a source, remember to tag and search before posting.
But everyone says this search function is not easy to use.
It may also be because everyone's ideological consensus is similar, and similar replies really need to be investigated (maybe others accidentally replied to similar opinions).

five others of my friends who all got banned for plagiarism
Great friends you have there! If they join because they consider this forum an ATM, they're joining for the wrong reasons.

Whoever is the owner of the content could contact the admins and request it to be taken down because it is still theft.
I don't think that's very likely to happen. Who's going to submit full KYC to have a post removed from a forum?
If your friends have made plagiarism, and a report was sent to the moderators, this post will be deleted.
From what I've seen, the reported posts don't always get deleted when the user gets banned.

If you mean that it is necessary to delete all posts of previously blocked members
That would just "break" forum discussions, and still won't remove quoted posts.

If your friends have made plagiarism, and a report was sent to the moderators, this post will be deleted. But since you say that your friends' plagiarisms are still in place, most likely they were not noticed by reporters. Or there is another option, there is so much plagiarism that for a person to be banned, one or two are enough for proof, while other cases are already ignored. At least that's what I do.
If you mean that it is necessary to delete all posts of previously blocked members, then what is the need to do this? The main thing is to stop the participation of such participants in the forum, and not to launder after them everything that they have done.

There are newbies who are "nuked" but most are just "banned",
a user's posts can still be active if it's the latter and the specific post didn't broken any rules or it wasn't reported yet.

The difference between the two are:
  • Nuke - Deletes all the user's posts and ban the user.
  • Ban - As you know it, forbids the user to use the forum but keep his posting history.

See the mod log for nuked user entries and click on the profile links to see their post history which are empty.

Deleted posts won't disappear forever, without any trace. It will still be stored in forum data base and of course there are third party data scrapers will store deleted posts.

Deleted posts are at first just hidden from public view. To steal the ID from such a post, the deleted post is given a new ID. The deleted spam post in this case now has ID 57394364.

After about a year, deleted posts are moved off of the live database and into an archive database, and no longer occupy their original message ID in the live database. After about another year, deleted posts are deleted from the archive database as well, though they will probably still exist in offline backups.

even better is that we have two independent services/websites which collect all the changes and screenshots of all posts even if they are deleted.

it certainly needs almost all posts except spam to be held as evidence

There are rules that determine whether a post should be deleted or not, if a user violated such rules, the popular one being spam, their posts would get deleted.
There are rules that could get a user banned from the forum, if one violates such rules, they'll likely get banned.
Violating one rule does not mean all your other posts should get deleted as they are part of your contribution to the forum.

Banning an athlete from a competition would not nullify any previous record they had in that field.

You are well filled I guess this is the right time to lock the thread to avoid spammers and word spinners infecting the thread.. The earlier the better Op.

Thanks so much for all your answers, because with all what you have said, you guys have given me insight of how this  works.

CMIIW, The content of plagiarism thread is not bad but only  the act of copying that content without credits to the owner is wrong so deleting a useful content will be waste especially if the content came from outside Bitcointalk forum and might give a source of knowledge for newbie who will search for it.

"Why do someone's post remain active on the forum even when he or she has been banned from the forum".
~Snipped~
how is it possible for someone to be banned and yet his article still active?
Did any of your friends happen to have a rank higher than a Newbie [e.g. Jr. Member]?

  • AFAICR, in most plagiarism cases, they'll be permanently banned and if they're a Newbie, they'll be nuked [it includes the part that all of their posts get deleted] instead.
    - That type of punishment can't be applied to higher ranks.

If the post is worth to remain I guess even the author is banned the post can be kept but probably locked. Also what kind of ban are you referring to? Cause there are some temp ban only and the author can post again so his post remain intact. But I think there are cases here that the user is banned but the post is still open especially if it has a good content.

If i remember correctly, it had something to do with proof... Plagiarism is a crime, and the post is the proof of the crime, so it's not always deleted...

At least, that's what my memory tells me... I have read a similar question years ago, and if i remember correctly, the answer was in this line (but my memory sometimes plays tricks on me)

Hello guys,
There is something that just came into my mind this morning, and it has been bothering me and I keep on wondering but couldn't figure out an exact answer to it, and the question is...

"Why do someone's post remain active on the forum even when he or she has been banned from the forum".

Because within the space of 1month of my introduction into this forum by a friend of mine of how awesome the bitcointalk.org forum is, and how one could learn so much about bitcoin and it's ability to earn some coins by offering quality time participating in discussion in the forum. And I thought it will be very bad of me haven been shown this kind of opportunity, to keep it all by myself alone, and decided to introduce five others of my friends who all got banned for plagiarism because they couldn't follow the rules of the forum, so this morning I came across one of there article and immediately this thought popped into my head that how is it possible for someone to be banned and yet his article still active?

So please, for those who have answers I will like to know why, and I guess am not the only one who has witness this too, there may be others who have seen such, but couldn't speak up. So here is an opportunity for us all to learn.

So thank you in anticipation as you come to share your thoughts. Thanks
