People will keep saying bitcoin is illegal, people will keep saying people is used by criminals, etc. They are just either ignorant or work for gov't or MSM and know BTC's true potential.

It's almost always ignorant people or people who don't know much who think and say things like that. We must forgive their foolishness.

They believe these things bcause of all the silly articles and bad press bitcoin gets and for things like the silkroad and other underground markets.

I think BTC illegal in many countries because governments don't have instruments to collectqthe tax.

Many countries ? Like where ?

Why is it illegal? Has anyone been arrested for owning bitcoins? These people are either close-minded and could not accept the future or they only knew bitcoin because they've heard that it is used for drugs and illegal crimes.

Maybe the ones that are saying it is illegal are either 1 of 2 people:-

1st person:- They missed the boat when Bitcoin was so low that for $1,000 they would've had about 16,666 BTC and sold them in the summer would've made a cool $79,999,000 profit. So there would be jealous of others new found wealth.

2nd person:- Is the person that owns BTC but don't mind the price dropping a bit more or even a lot more, so they can buy more. So they can buy more once they have scared away the "stupid" people to drop the prices of BTC.

I know these are just my opinions, but it seems like a tactic that works.

Let me know what you think.

Its not illegal
However you can make illegal purchases with it
I hear drug sites are offering bitcoins as their payment gateaway.
Maybe you heard wrong

That is where everything went wrong with Bitcoin. It's all about Hearsay. People keeps on telling other people that Bitcoin is illegal because it's been used in illegal things. Just like how speculation works in Bitcoin world.

In my opinion, Bitcoin is not illegal, it's just that no one cares about its existence except for those who are after its value and volatility.

It's not illegal at all, it's simply not regulated and therefore not understood. Over the past few months with bitcoins making the covers of Fortune, Forbes, etc. I have seen it become more legitimized in the eyes of common people.

A few searches on-line and I found you guys, Crypto Savages, Anarchists, and rebels. We all know that a conversation about taxation with a person who believes in the state is like having a conversation with a kid who believes in Santa Clause, if the information doesn't comes from his parents then it turns into a futile conversation that often leads to symptoms of disbelief, which could turn into withdrawal and violence.

I want you to imagine a top that can only tell you the truth to any question you ask it once it stops spinning. Now, imagine a Statist who's been spinning this top for years and years to try and receive a different answer. The Statist has gone from asking it, "why do taxes make me feel so bad?" to "I hate taxes" etc, and every time the top stops it replies with the same answer "taxation is theft"

"No, no!" they can't believe it and they spin it again,

"taxation is theft" the top replies and they'll even have you spin it for them in frantic disbelief.

In the land of reality we all know the future is decentralized, and as a result the laws will reflect the fears of the Governments and its banking cartels. Ergo, laws will become more pervasive, we'll see greater forms of vulgar state influence that will seem and feel like complete authoritarianism.

Why not, let's entertain this notion of taxation:

If you're dealing with a centrally-controlled fiat currency supply such as the US dollar or the Federal Reserve Note, IE the petrodollar, then yes, I'd understand an individual choosing to be stolen from by having to pay the IRS their extortion money. And being okay when some one behind a computer at your local bank freezes your bank account because you pulled out $100 at the ATM during the wrong time of day. Or having your self beat to an inch of your life at the US Mexico boarder because you have a Bitcoin tattoo, but you hadn't coughed up any coins like a vending machine.

But seriously? having to pay the IRS in a currency that they never created, don't manage, have nothing to do with is ridiculous . Ask your self this question, was there a Government agent standing by your computer helping you make Bitcoins by providing you useful information. Was the IRS paying your rent, your electricity bill mining equipment, buying you food? Can you name any IRS agent by first and last name? No? Well there you go -- you don't know these people or any-one individual there and if you did then you, of course, pay back that one individual. But if they all gang up on you and take your money without an agreed upon contract or your explicit consent then it's theft. Either them or anyone individual taking from you is theft which makes Taxation theft.

You have to remember that Bitcoin, like your home, or car is your property. Anyone including the Government taking your Bitcoin is a violation of your 'Property Rights' which is a basic Human Right. Basic Human Rights are directly correlated with Natural Law. And Natural Law is the highest law of the land, no one on this planet not even the Government can escape natural law. An example of Natural Law is "If you place your hand on a hot-open stove what will happen to your hand?" It's the law of cause and effect. As an Anarchist I work with this law, so do you, and so does everyone.

Sometimes they'll ask me, "But -- but you must pay your fare share!!"

A: Show me the contract I personally agreed to pay any particular amount to this human invented fiction called a Government? You won't find the contract because it doesn't exist and it never did just like this human invented Government fiction created by heavily indoctrinated people. The word "Fare share" was invented by the writer Carl Marx who was a Communist.

Therefore, the words "Fare share" are derived from a Marxist ideology of collectivism which proposes that the work and energy produced by the individual does not belong to the individual but to the state. And that all subsequent goods, and services derived from the individual's labor, work, and energy belongs solely to the state. The individual will produce and the state will take a percentage of the labor and ration out the rest back to the individual in small -- incremental sums over time. Marxism leads to technocracy or technocratic socialism and makes Marxism even worse. In a technocracy (which is more brutal than Communism), the individual does not receive his or her rations in the form of monetary compensation, but in resources such as electricity, food, and water. And if the individual runs out of anyone of those rations during the month then they are either left to die by the state or they are reported to the local authorities by a neighbor or friend. The police are then required to visit the individual's home, to read them their rights and violations, and to have the individual repeat those violations aloud back to the police for their records. They then ask the individual to turn away from them and to get on their knees to be finally executed. Executions are not performed in isolated environments, but in front of entire families and children. This allows the children to either obey and fear the state or see their parents as traitors of the state and lose complete trust in their parents and only trust the state.

So what do I think people will do in the very near future?

I believe the laws will get so bad in the United States that most people will need to close all their bank accounts, file for bankruptcy, and move to another state. But I would go further than that. I would rent a storage locker somewhere, pay with cash and stash what I didn't want stolen. I would then check in to the local homeless shelter and make sure that they have my ID card on file. I'd leave the shelter at 12 am and I'd go to a Hotel. In the morning, I'd apply for food stamps, move some where out of the way and pay for the rent, food, and toiletry in cash. Sooner or later everyone living in the western world will be doing something like this.

Q: "Well, if you don't like it then you can get the hell out!!"
A: You first, give it back to the Native Americans on your way out.

Cheers!

Who are "they"? Bitcoin is legal and regulated in most countries.
Google search engine is easy to access, go ahead and check your local government's stance on cryptocurrency. I'm sure it's either positive or neutral.

Most countries bitcoins are now accepted, But goverments has the power to ban bitcoin if they are motivated enough, that is probably the reason why there are talks of bitcoin being illegal. They can make it illegal if they wanted it to be which will slow the adoption of bitcoin everywhere.

China is trying to place restrictions on Bitcoin but they're not outright banning it. That is where all the pandemonium is coming from.
All about ICO's this time. The big boys spreading a lot of FUD whilst buying up as much BTC as they can. How could they possibly lose?

Bitcoin cannot be illegal. It takes time and effort from the government to study about it and explore the huge potential from it. Most of the countries already legalized bitcoin and some others are in implementing stage.

Because they don't know anything about bitcoin and cryptocurrency as a whole.
This might be their defensive mechanism.
On the first place how can they even say that bitcoin is illegal whereas there are no laws passed against it yet.
Yes there may be countries that already treated bitcoin as illegal.
But I am sure that the rest of this countries do not have laws against its use.
So if you hear them tell again that bitcoin is illegal...
Kindly ask them what are their basis...

indeed some of them think about it that way,
or they are afraid to get busted by the goverment because of it.
Bitcoin is like your assets, which mean you need to pay the taxes for every assets that you own.
but the goverment obviously can not track our Bitcoin because they can not,
Bitcoin known as an anonymity assets
that is why some people thought, using Bitcoin was like doing something illegal because we do not need to pay the taxes.

in my opinion, you should not worry about what people said because it's safe for now,
and plus i don't like the taxes, they will rob your money for their own using 'taxes'.
as long as you do not tell them about how much do you have,i think it's nothing to worry about
Bitcoin is not at all taxable as it is considered as an asset by government. But when you sell your bitcoins and at that time you have to pay taxes on the capital gains gained by selling the bitcoins. And bitcoins as a matter of fact have been banned by some countries.

I don't really get your question exactly. Do you mean Bitcoin or this site is illegal?

Anyway, when it comes to this site, this is not illegal, this won't run up to now when this is illegal.

Regarding Bitcoin, usually people's perception about Bitcoin is like that. It is some sort of stereotyping. Maybe they have a terrible experience about internet money(paypal) or whatever that includes money, which is sometimes a fraud.

They keep saying that bitcoin is illegal because they don't have idea on what is bitcoin and they only think that bitcoin is only usable in the deepweb or in the underground type of internet and that is why we need to teach other people to realized that bitcoin is not all about illegal stuff because bitcoin is more usable in legal way.

What I mean is that is easier to call it illegal than doing some research.

they keep saying that bitcoin is illegal because they not educated by this bitcoin, and our forum (bitcointalk.org) is all related to bitcoin so they all can say that our site is illegal with those who negative thinking and not even educated in bitcoin. bitcoin now is worth unimaginable price in terms of value so if those people not educated in bitcoin then they known a few things or they just invite by someone so they first impression is negative and not to believe and maybe they say to its illegal to earn more than their current job. we dont have no choice but to accept that they not believing in what do they need to know about bitcoin.

Also if you live in a place like china just save your bitcoins and move to a another country when you feel you have enough saved. who are "they" and what country they are talking about?

bitcoin is illegal in a handful of countries. you can see them here (the list is mostly accurate): https://coin.dance/poli#legalitybycountry

but in the rest of the world (190 countries) bitcoin is legal. so when "they" talk about bitcoin being illegal there are 3 possibilities:
- they are talking about one of those countries above
- they are idiots who don't know what they are talking about and just repeat something like a parrot
- they want to spread FUD to cause panic and help manipulate the price so that they can buy bitcoin at a cheaper price. (it was $500 profit on each coin if you bought bitcoin in the recent FUD dip)

"They" from different forums so no exact country. Plus Iforgot which country they are talking about.

Because "they" don't know what they're talking about. "They" haven't broken free of the monetary system they live in. "They" don't understand Bitcoin.

It's so funny how people assume the worst about something new.

Why would governments want to make Bitcoin illegal? Most governments, or the financial systems by which they are run, are making a killing owning bitcoin.

Not to mention, "they" don't want their current currency to be overrun and allow us to gain control of our own!

It depends from a country where you are located. In some countries bitcoin is fully legalized like Japan, South Korea. In other fully banned like Venezuela, North Korea. In most countries status of bitcoin is unidentified. Should central banks consider bitcoin as currency, money, store of value, fake money, tokens....etc.? The more time flows the more bitcoin becomes mainstream and more adopted. And it is more difficult to make it illegal. It will not become illegal in western countries in my opinion. But governments will force to show it, pay taxes and explain where did you get it... until it become anonymous))

Can you link us to those "topics" saying that bitcoin is illegal? I don't know what forum you're visiting since I haven't read similar posts in a while.

but the goverment obviously can not track our Bitcoin because they can not,
Bitcoin known as an anonymity assets

Government entities can possibly track your bitcoin if they wanted, especially if you're using bitcoin services such as Coinbase or even simply when purchasing something legal or illegal online. Bitcoin isn't totally anonymous, it's only anonymous to a certain extent. That's one of the small downsides of the blockchain being public.

Because "they" don't know what they're talking about. "They" haven't broken free of the monetary system they live in. "They" don't understand Bitcoin.

It's so funny how people assume the worst about something new.

Why would governments want to make Bitcoin illegal? Most governments, or the financial systems by which they are run, are making a killing owning bitcoin.

who are "they" and what country they are talking about?

bitcoin is illegal in a handful of countries. you can see them here (the list is mostly accurate): https://coin.dance/poli#legalitybycountry

but in the rest of the world (190 countries) bitcoin is legal. so when "they" talk about bitcoin being illegal there are 3 possibilities:
- they are talking about one of those countries above
- they are idiots who don't know what they are talking about and just repeat something like a parrot
- they want to spread FUD to cause panic and help manipulate the price so that they can buy bitcoin at a cheaper price. (it was $500 profit on each coin if you bought bitcoin in the recent FUD dip)

indeed some of them think about it that way,
or they are afraid to get busted by the goverment because of it.
