Op, I think the answer here are enough to lock this particular thread since global moderator @hilariousandco has also commented which I think they are responsible for locking of thread and  topics. I don't see any reason why more comment should be flooded here to avoid spamming this thread. Usually 5 to 8 answers (comments are good enough for you to know why it's usually locked).

OP, you can't lock posts, but you can only delete them on some board [some boards excluded]. But you can lock your thread for any reason including preventing spam, having reached conclusion or sometihings. I'm just not sure why you're asking this kind of question, but for obvious reasons you could interpret it as forum user ethics as to why they locked thread.

I've locked almost all the thread I've created when I've come to the conclusion I want, it's a good move for me to be able to prevent thread from being bumped by other users in the future.

If you are describing those thread being locked by mods and not by the OP themselves then I believe the main reason was it was being reported multiple times as spam, duplicate or the thread already received the answer so locking it by the mods is due to there own discretion on if the thread is still needed to be open or not.

I saw many topic like this on gambling discussion board which most of the topic is related on general discussion that doesn't have any defined answer or simply just a thread for spam post.

There are some threads that are created on here that ask a question that sometimes have the answers in them. I personally see it as a wasted effort to keep that thread busy when the answers have been dropped because spammers would pounce on that opportunity to drop posts that cause unnecessary clutter.
Plus, @hilariousandco has provided all the answers in one line😁😁

So, my question really is, why does a post or thread get locked in this forum?
What are some criteria(do's or don'ts), that makes a posts or thread get locked?
Is it a good thing to have some posts or thread locked?
Simply put, hilariousandco has provided the answers to all your questions.
You can keep your thread open as long as the discussion in it is reasonable and you can prevent spam. I also don't get a reason why you should leave it open once you've got what you want, i.e the answers you need.

Some duplicate topics can be removed, while some are locked by OP or mod. You can lock your thread because you want to prevent spam, and that's some good advice when you create a thread. Case in point: Once you've got all the answers you need in this thread, then it's also recommended that you lock the thread.

There is no forum rule as to when/why a thread should be locked, sometimes it can be a subjective decision by the user who created the thread, so the thing is: a user can lock their thread for a plethora of individual reasons, it is their discretion as the person who started the thread, the normal thing to do is to lock a thread when the discussion is basically over, but it is as subjective as a thread starter locking their thread when the discussion just began, you could prolly PM them to reopen it, but it is still up to them to accept or reject the request.

Having said that, when moderators lock threads, we know it is because the thread is now redundant and being used to spam posts, but when a user locks a thread, it might be for a reason we wouldn't be able to decipher.

Your question is strange, people are free to do what they do, so I may create a topic and for any reason I close it, so your words will be logical if your question is about a specific topic or who can close a specific topic.

In general, you will not get a specific answer to a question like this, so it is better to lock this topic.

Usually once they've served their purpose, someone got the answer they were looking for, and to prevent mindless spam.

I will add. A topic can be locked, even with multiple posts. This often occurs when the same news is distributed throughout the forum at almost the same time. The one with the most comprehensive coverage and the earliest creation will have the advantage.
Furthermore, you, the OP, can request that the moderators report it to them and close the topic for a reason. Often, topics are closed when some spammers decide to resurrect old and uninteresting topics.

why does a post or thread get locked in this forum?
Can be locked by moderators if its a spam megathread.
Can be locked by the admin or mod if its an informative post that does not need replies. This is usually combined with it being stickied.
Can be locked by the creator if they have gotten their answer.
Can be locked by the user if the discussion has become extensive and run out its relevance.
Can be locked by scammers who does not want other members to point out their scam attempt.

What are some criteria(do's or don'ts), that makes a posts or thread get locked?
Do not create a spam megathread. If you have gotten your answer, lock the thread yourself, or it would be reported to the moderators.

Is it a good thing to have some posts or thread locked?
Yes if it fits any of point 1 above. It helps to prevent spam.

1. To prevent gravedigging(unnecessary reviving of old topics)
2. When a thread is obviously being used to farm postcount
3. When the thread/topic is redundant

If you create a topic, you can lock it at anytime that you want. Moderators too can lock topic which they see as old. The thread locked by a moderator can not be unlocked by the person that create the topic.

Some posts are locked to avoid repetition and spamming.

I have been observing a certain key lock symbol on some posts or thread created. It appears after some days on a post before such a post disappears.
I have been bearing it in my heart to ask for sometime now, as I do think in my opinion that it means the post is either old, that such posts or thread have stayed more than a day or two or longer, it is getting boring comments, it is not forum worthy or for another reason I may have not thought out.

So, my question really is, why does a post or thread get locked in this forum?
