So if I put someone else's address somewhere on my profile, my username will be in the blockchain for their address?

Yup. The trick is to find a nice adresss with some 100000 BTC in there and use that in your sig. Afterwards you will have lots of new "friends" like Tony and Luigi and Alexey and Johnny "Machine-Gun" Maldonado.

lol, nice idea. better to make the proof

It's nice feature and all data are from public sources. Why people creep out when someone connects 2 pieces together?  Smiley

Should be optional

It is optional, once you opted to publicly link the address to your bitcointalk screen name they are linked permanently. You made the choice, if you don't want to link them - don't post them together.

Same goes with facebook, twitter, etc. - if you don't want something going public, don't post it publicly.
So if I put someone else's address somewhere on my profile, my username will be in the blockchain for their address? How long has it worked like this? I'm going to put my name all over the blockchain!

EDIT: Misunderstood. I was thinking you were talking about THE blockchain, not blockchain.info. I thought that sounded kind of weird.

You must have, at some point, had your bitcoin address listed in your profile (perhaps in your signature?). For example, my vanity address in my signature has my forum account linked to it.
Bitcoin by its nature can be anonymous, but only if you specifically take steps to keep anyone from linking your identity to that address. Remember, all transaction data is public knowledge.

I was checking my wallet in http://blockchain.info/

why is my nickname (Bitconian) connect to my wallet? I thought that this was completely anonymous and with my nickname, someone could trace my ip and find who I am.

I check some other wallets from others fellows of this forum and I also saw their nicknames connects to the transfers to their wallets.

Why is that? why is (in some way) connect this forum (or the nicknames) with ours wallets?

thanks
