Topic: Why does this forum have so many restrictions on posting? (Read 183 times)

You just have to deal with it for a little while. Read up on topics that interest you, make posts when you feel its appropriate, and deal with the irritation of account restrictions until your account ranks up and they are gradually lifted. There is a WHOLE lot of spam going on behind (and in front of) the scenes. Without the restrictions that there are now, this place would be a mess. This is a very unique type of forum. There is financial incentive to being here, and its a gathering place for people with cryptocurrencies. That means people will be here to spam, scam, promote, and phish. The spam, phishing, and advertisements are what we try to cut down on with newbie restrictions. If any new account could send out a mass of PMs, many more members would be effected by it before the staff can ban them. The same applies to posting.

You can rank up your account by activity, posts, and merit, check here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/faq-everything-you-need-to-know-about-forum-activity-account-ranks-and-merit-2766177

I agree with merit system, but I have seen still many enough quality post mainly at Bitcoin Discussion's board, I think they make a enough quality post but I not see they get merit.
I have seen so little merit circulated at that board, I want to know what we should do to get merit? while we already make enough qualify post but sometimes that's not working, I just seen merit circulated with experienced members only.

Does anyone have any advice on how to upgrade my account?

Is that more a function of spending money or can you get upgraded by being a participant over a long period of time and simply contributing to the community?

keep posting regularly once a day would just be enough.
after a month or two you will rank up and won't notice the restrictions as much
the restrictions was put in place to prevent spammers from creating new accounts and flood posting or private messaging users
no need to pay premium (copper member?) if you here just for the discussions Wink

Let me five you some advices:
If you have problems/limits on searching, then try to google following: bitcointalk.org Your Search Subject and then just enter search. I think this will help you.
You can get upgraded by posting quality posts and ai guess it may be a little bit long term jurney as for now.
For how to use Search function efficiently, there you go:
[Tips] Guide for forum search
I think that this one is useful and contains detailed steps for you to learn, and use forum search more efficiently.
Hope it helps!

I posted on this forum offering up crypto writing services.

I could only get one inbox message and was not allowed to reply because my account is restricted. The restriction notice came with a note telling me to upgrade my account and become a premium member or something like that. What is a premium membership and how do I get it?

I also noticed that I can only run a search within the forum once every 90 seconds and I also can't post that often.

I've been on other forms before where your account is restricted for a while but I've had my account now for quite a bit. I hope to use it more so I can build the following as a writer but I find it really frustrating to participate when you can't do anything and have to wait a few minutes every time you make a move.

Does anyone have any advice on how to upgrade my account?

Bitcoin Talk is a community, and many posts provide valuable information exchanges, and help for members problems. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who seek to take advantage of the community that has taken years to build, and they offer very little in return. All the new restrictions have been introduced to try to stop the exploitation of years of work by the established members. Newcomers are welcome if they want to become part of the community, but they are not welcome if they are just here to "pick pockets", or to take advantage of the search rankings and daily thread viewings.

I'm not saying that any of this is true in your case, but there are so many interesting things to read here, that it shouldn't be too difficult to increase your rank if you become part of the community.

All these restrictions are implemented to keep this forum free from spam. After you rank up, the restrictions are still there but you won't notice it that much.

I've adjusted the limits to make spamming more difficult.

Activity   Min. seconds between post actions   Max PM recipients   PMs per hour
036035
1674530
3060560
6030560
1001210120
2001015120
300820120

Contribute the forum with four more meaningful posts and then your waiting time between posts will decrease with a significant amount of time.
