I didn't realize that before ..  Wink It seems to me that .io and .network domains better address young and tech-savvy people.

That is more probably for two reasons. One is that it is really hard nowadays to find a desirable domain name in .com and second reason is that because these projects present themselves as new startups that are interested to raise funds from the community that is why io (initial offering) suits them more because io gives them the opportunity to select their desired name and also share their intent to the world that they are looking to raise funds as initial offering.

I noticed that many use .io or .network.

Is there a reason why .com isn't used for these?

It depends on the name that they are using for the project and if the domain names are already taken. mostly the io are related to technology so you will not find other businesses that are using the term. Availability is a big part when it comes to the kind of domain name that you are going to register and use for your coins or your project

I think, IO is a term of technology, it is an acronym, example: in/out, input/output, indoor/outdoor, ... so almost crypto projects/ startups use .io extension, it's also shortly, easy to remember, available to register, ...

Im not sure of the main reason why mostly are using .io and other unfamiliar extensions but my guess is probably these are very cheap ones.

And looking for the potential. com extension with their chosen domain is probably taken by others and dont want to sell it to others. Theres a big market for domain flippening as well so thats my guess.

Thanks for sharing the medium article, I never thought about it that way actually, especially because a few of the ICOs I invested in as well as the projects I followed still use either .com or .org. For some reason,,, I always associate .io with projects that were not being serious or even being scams. HYIPs all loved to use .io and yes you are right jossiel. They are cheap! .coms are always expensive and somehow you feel people are not serious when they do not want to spend money.

Some use .io because the .com might not be available ,I mean in terms of already available of the .com e.g gravity.com ,so for an ICO looking to name project gravity they would easily use gravity.io  ,and this doesn't really matter to me what about those that use .xyz ?

The reason behind I think is the accessibility of the team to the domain, more cheap and redirecting to the idea of projects that aims for commercial purposes that is primarily used by .com extension.

I remember reading an article about this a while ago and I managed to find it: https://medium.com/emissaryguild/why-io-is-making-icos-more-successful-8d26224cc34f

That article makes sense, and besides like the article pointed out, it is so hard to find a domain related to cryptocurrency now, as if all cryptocurrency domain are already bought, someone or a big group or company has parked a lot of cryptocurrency domain because they knew it has the potential to make a profit in the future.

io extension is branding for cryptocurrency ico right from the beginning  of ico boom io is used dot com extension can be used for company brand io is specifically  became a branding for ico programs and it will be continue
Alright because a lot of people familiar with the .io domain rather than .com. there are few icos are using .com domain too.
It's more familiar to the crypto user. But this time a lot of icos are using another domain too.

That depends on the team which they use a domain extension. For me, its no big deal as long as the domain they have are secured and away from possible phishers.

I have also wondered why the cryptocurrency projects rarely go for a .com domain but instead uses .io
But later on i started to focus on cashing out massively when i couldn't find right answers.

I think that it is very easy for any project to start up a website with a .io without anyone ever to have used their username before.
Its the best guess.

For me that is like a new era.
when I saw something like .io or other not very popular domains I instantly understood that here it is ex ICO or something like that.
