Indeed, we could have avoided a lot of additional losses if the wallets of the exchanges would be more transparent.

I would think this to be a great idea for transparency, it would build and keep confidence and would highlight any possible issues.

The exchanges probably would not be too happy about doing this but considering what has just happened with Cryptsy it would be a great move if the existing larger exchanges came together somehow and an idea like this could work.

this is a nice and essential idea. although I am afraid it is too late because all the major exchangers have their use base so you cant force them to reveal their cold wallet.

I only see one exchange on the list of 500
Cryptsy could never had ran their ponzi if the wallets where known
MtGox never would of happened

the standard is simple
show us the money or you stink of Gox!

Well it is an interesting idea. It depends on how many cold wallets the coins are being held in and how often new wallets are made. I am pretty sure that Exchanges are not really ready to show all their funds, but i would support them revealing them. Would allow users to see how the funds are moved, maybe it could be used as a signal to warn in advance to what happened to cryptsy. Regardless of if it was a "hack" or they just stole the coins.
