UpTweet indeed looks like a better approach than Witcoin, with the distributed pay vs. per-post tipping.   Tipping is a time-honoured tradition even by internet standards, but it depends on too many variables, such as people who would otherwise be happy to tip a post but happen to not have the BTC handy, don't have time to do the spend or upload to a Witcoin wallet etc.

Thanks for the thoughtful post Frank.

Give us some time, we will have Tweet tipping soon Smiley...

Right now our biggest priority is the mobile application.

In the meantime I agree with you, we have a very innovative (dare, I say) radical platform, that feeds good posts, and shuns bad ones automatically (or subconsciously if you will).

We are excited and we hope you are to!

Kind Regards

I was just thinking about witcoin. It was a great idea. Profitable, too, IIRC. I was the one who came up with the "pyramid scheme" payment idea that witcoin had, so I "received" a small percentage of site profits (lost when witcoin went down, though).

The witcoin code was at one time available on a git repository that several people had access to. I had access, but I unfortunately don't have the files anymore. You could ask tcatm or ducki2p.

mizery wrote an amazing amount of pretty high-quality code for witcoin. It's so sad how he lost his sanity... At his level of productivity, he could have been one of the richest bitcoiners around.

I loved that site, it was the only thing (at the time) that kept me connected to Bitcoin (even though withdrawals were disabled and I couldn't cash out).

I could remake that site in about week fully completed with a great theme for a few BTC, Who wants to throw in to the fund?

For those of you who weren't around for it, or never tried it, witcoin was a social news site (like reddit) based on micro payments using bitcoins. I think upvoting was called "tipping" and it gave the author of the post a little money. I don't remember the specifics, but I thought it was a cool idea. You could earn a little money if you had something cool to share, and you could give a little away if someone else showed you something cool.

It died a long time ago (and I never got my 2 BTC I had left in my account back,) and I don't think anything has appeared to replace it. Is there anything else like that that I haven't noticed?
