But he still hold most valuable currency of Bitcointalk in his account. I wouldn't be surprised if he will help some Newbies (or Spambies) to rank up Cheesy
In other words, if you weren't active through 2017 then you probably didn't got any sMerit ( merit you can send).
he doesn't have any initial spendable merit due to his inactivity in 2017, as iasenko pointed
his last post was on November 06, 2016 questioning negative trust left by Lauda
if he has sMerit, he probably will try to send it to one of his (yet discovered) alts Lips sealed
or already exposed alts here jitender* alts or here Known alts of anyone: User generated

That's why he used this account to ask the question, he knows the account is already done for and when he heard the news about the 1 merit requirement and the black market for it he suddenly realized that maybe he can sell some of the merits to some newbies.
But surprise...there is nothing to sell or far too little:
I'm pretty sure he has a ton of accounts left anyhow  Angry unfortunately.

And here with that I would like to ask that why it is made merit system , while we were comfortable in past time of 1 year back without merit system , can anyone tell me ?

To make us much more comfortable Grin. I feel so comfy right now...you can't even imagine.
But I bet you're not feeling that good, realizing how stupid was to draw attention on you again.  Cheesy

@iasenko, @Thirdspace, I didn't knew that. I thought that number of airdropped  Merits was determined by user rank and his activity, no matter he was active in 2017 or no. Seems that I was wrong. Well, good to learn something new, thanks guys!
You are right it all depends on the activity earned by the user but it will depend on how much the activity the user earned during that year (2017) so it still depends on the user being active or not. You can read it in the original announcement thread in the meta section that theymos created about the merits system.

Trivia:

For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank. Of that, a certain amount (less than the usual half) is spendable. The spendable amount was calculated based on your current rank and the number of activity points you earned in the last year. A Legendary member who hasn't posted in the last year would still be Legendary, but would not have any spendable merit.
So not all people even if they have the same ranks or activity have received the same sMerits to give after the announcement.

Here is something usefull >
While specific formula is not given, theymos wrote that the initial sMerit is not solely determined by rank, but determined by rank and activity points obtained in the last year.

The exact formula was:

Code:
yearActivity = activity in the last ~year, max 378
freeMerit = the merit (not sMerit) you started with
modifier =
  0.1 if member
  0.2 if full member
  0.25 if sr member
  0.35 if hero
  0.4 if legendary

return (yearActivity/378) * modifier * freeMerit

So the most you could get is if you were a Legendary who maxed out your activity points in the last year, in which case you would get 1 * 0.4 * 1000 = 400 sMerit.

Note that I later made an adjustment giving 500 extra merit to some hero members, but no extra sMerit was given here.

I'll probably publish a dump of the initial sMerit at some point.

If you don't have sMerit, you cannot send any.
Even if you are a full member, the airdropped sMerit was based on your past year activity.
In other words, if you weren't active through 2017 then you probably didn't got any sMerit ( merit you can send).

Other thing, which is probably not your case but it's good to be noted is that you cannot send merit to posts from boards you have on your ignore list.

OP, I don't know why you can't send sMerit. You wake up after years of silence and you still have airdropped Merit.

It's interesting see you woke up suddenly after almost 2 year and the very first post is about merit.
His account was already red tagged in past, so it's useless pretty much. But he still hold most valuable currency of Bitcointalk in his account. I wouldn't be surprised if he will help some Newbies (or Spambies) to rank up Cheesy

Here question is what I asked through the title of this post
I doubt you have read the the announcement thread of merit by theymos in which it is clearly stated that you will get sMerit by default only if you were active. Reference-

For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank. Of that, a certain amount (less than the usual half) is spendable. The spendable amount was calculated based on your current rank and the number of activity points you earned in the last year. As far as I know, in last 1 year, bitcointalk got more than 1 million users. Imagine how much bitcointalk has been changed. I know it is not unknown to you  Grin
The reason behind the change was lots of people were getting higher ranked while they didn't deserve to be. Thus the portion of shitposts were also increasing.

Merit system was created for main two reasons,

one for stopping the account farming and sales of btt accounts because through which lot of scams were happening.

second one is to stop spamming which is caused due to lot of applicants participating in bounty and to fulfill the criteria they start to spam in the forum with useless comments and start new threads without checking about whether their is one before created or not.

I wouldn't say we were comfortable, everyone wants to be credited for quality posts, but users (especially bounty hunters) could live without it, and earn a living.
The new system now makes quality contributions necessary, if you ever hope to rank up. And I think that was the idea behind it.
And with the reduced spam, we can say it's working.
