Bitcoin could rival paypal.

How? Huh.
Without any buyer /seller protection it's no way near possible.

Except through trustable Escrow, which is, technically not possible.

Let's Start a Cryptolution!!
Why is Ebay and Paypal so Technically Retarded When it comes to BitCoins? Why can't they have a Seller and Buyer protection policy for BTC? Why can't they figure out how to systemize the sale of Bitcoin through the Block Chain Info? You think with the Billions they have in $$$ they can hire and/or train people to be Tech literate.

I'm pissed off because someone pulled the Charge back scam on me today. And Ebay/Paypal always side with the Scammers no matter how much proof you have. I had proof stating he received it in email, block chain proof, all kinds of proof yet nothing is ever good enough for those people at Ebay!!!

Because they aren't a currency exchange service.

Bitcoin could rival paypal.

Nooo... it could be used as another form of currency, just as USD, EUR, and GBP are. However, it does not quite work with the whole irreversibility thing. If they really wanted to they could implement it for certain things just like Bill Me Later. But for now, they are content.

It was PayPal's policy to not act as a currency exchange service even before BitCoin came around. This is not a new policy.

The odd part is why eBay is still allowing the sale of BitCoin when it is against PayPal's policy. They could easily restrict the sale on the auction site. They are the same company.

It generates Money for them and that's all they care about! Angry

Yep! By selling bitcoins on their website, technically you are in violation of their TOS.  It's like telling a judge that a dug dealer ripped you off.  The judge isn't going to side with the dealer, but he 's going to dismiss your case since you were doing something that you shouldn't be doing anyways.  Same here.  Paypal and ebay don't care about your proof.  You are doing something against their TOS so they don't care about your case.  I wouldn't be surprised though if the other guy also got a warning not to make those kinds of purchases in the future.

Well, they might start using it, it's just a matter of a fact that paypal is currently this biggest monopoly online. a huge escrow service which charges huge sums and has no competitors - fucking brilliant, where do i get that job?

So why would they need, or for a matter of fact, want BTC?
I can only it how it would make them just one of many...
Since it's unregulated, and they can't risk a privileged position with governments, they don't even attempt to capitalize on it.
They are rich because no one risks to use BTC.

+1 and if you didn't know PayPal was bought by eBay

Futhermore, there's no way to charge back Bitcoin, so it's impossible to have buyer protection anyway.
