Altcoin discussion will just make you overthink so I would suggest not to visit them. Cheesy This is the proof that you're overthinking. Wink Kidding aside, if there's something wrong about these threads or there's an intention of scamming investors then let's not hesitate to report it. Smiley
I guess I was just overthinking. I'm a bit suspicious because of the high scam rate in the altcoin market. I thought maybe they were just riding the AI hype, which, let’s admit, is currently popular right now. So, I shared it here to get some insights, but it turns out they’re legit hype.

To avoid being overly suspicious, I’ll just go ahead and lock this thread.

Thanks all!

I’ve noticed some threads discussing certain AI projects that don’t directly market them, and it got me thinking - could this be part of some massive shilling effort to lure investors into AI coins?
---
Yep, that's the case.
It's like when NFT's and GameFi was hyped in 2021, we've seen many NFT and GameFi related topics popping out on the altcoin discussion. When Meme coins was the hype, we've seen threads regarding new meme coins being created there.

Wherever the hype currently is, these users are there as well. They will shill, promote new projects for the sake of profit. Nothing new at least for me since I've seen many things like this already (even though I'm not going to altcoins discussion anymore that much, I expected members to shill AI related coins). Unfortunately, there will be new investors that might lure and get attracted because of the hope that they can make money into it.

I wanted to bring this up here because I know there are a lot of investigators around with good eyes who can dig into this. Am I just being overly suspicious, or are these users really promoting AI projects with legitimate use cases and legit teams? It’d be great to get some insights from others to confirm what’s really going on.

I always watch for such a deceptive means of advertising a program of interest but I hardly see them in the altcoin section. This is why I believe you are "overly suspicious" as you suspected it yourself.

Fine, some could be stylishly advised, if they do not violate the rules of the forum the way they do it, then it's welcome because we can't in the name of suspicious deny ourselves the latest happenings in the crypto world. And among the 5 links listed, it's the first that is suspicious, while the last did not hide it, he came clean.

However, others are likely informing us or wanting our opinion about the crypto asset which is part of the reasons for this forum. I've seen many that were mentioned there and later became huge successes, so I advise you not to be "overly suspicious," the altcoin section is the right place to discuss such.

Memes received the most shills a year ago, and many of these do not have usecases. Have you created a topic about this? AI's are just one of the too many altcoins that trend in recent years that use FOMO and shills, and we will not see the end of it as long as we have the altcoin boards.
If you frequent altcoin boards, just be ready to read the best shill lines you can find online. Some of the most used lines are "Etherem killer"/"missed Bitcoin. Don't miss this one."

There's nothing much to expect on such concepts if not the fact of promoting shit coins and on the stance of scamming strategies.
There on the AltCoin board is so irritating that you'd not find any reputable forum users doing displaying those dramas and that's simply why I don't get attracted to hyping coins. There you'd find newly created forum users accounts acting professional in the crypto industry.
Sometimes I just get to think if th AltCoin board a place for dramas.

HAHA, i can't even remember the last time i navigated to the altcoin discussion board because everything over there just look so irregular and confusing. From users who advertise some shit projects to those who talk and discuss about those shitcoins and other altcoins. Just like you said, hardly will you see any reputable forum member frequenting the altcoins section. Everything just looks so abnormal there and it's also a hob nub of newbies and other lower ranked who are ready to advertise those shitcoins to get paid without caring if they are scam projects or not.

Get used to it. I've been on the altcoins board for many years, and people talked about shills and FOMO on what's trending in the market. It used to be play to earn, then memes, then tap to earn. Now, AI and DePin, its  seasonal; when investors expose or get over these concepts, a new one will come, and so FOMO and shills will continue.
Its up to investors to decide on what to believe, and they have to be good at differentiating a good one from a bad one; the word DYOR rightly applies to the altcoin board.

They are using the trend to create altcoins which it's purpose is to lure investors if it's a scam project but if it isn't then it's good for investors. Well, it's always in altcoin board since it's the most suited board to post there ann thread. Sooner or later, their altcoin project will die down since it's no longer trend. Some are doing it to make people invest in altcoins instead of investing in Bitcoin or different cryptocurreny that's not altcoin.

Also, I’ve heard others say the forum doesn’t moderate scams, but I just brought what I think is alarming.
So pardon me if its not necessary.

The forum doesn't moderate scams, but you can report spam threads, and they might get deleted. If you don't want newbies to fall for them, you can write a warning post in the threads to warn newbies so that they don't fall for them if you see that your report isn't handled and the threads are still there.

These shills are pretty sharp, they write their posts in a way that makes it look like they are asking questions about the project and aren't promoting them, but someone who has experience with these things and know how they look like, can understand what they are trying to do. I have reported so many of such threads in the past and I always write a post in them before I report so that if the threads don't get removed, at least my post should serve as a warning.

People behind altcoins are usually using whatever is popular at the moment to first attract and then dump their worthless shitcoins on people, and nowadays everything related with AI is popular so no wonder that you see increase in AI themed altcoins.
Exactly . You know, actually one major difference between bitcoin and altcoin is trends bitcoin is bitcoin unlike altcoins that move invariably with the trend. Currently we are in a digital era and one of the most trending things is AI and definitely it's a proposed smart move for these profit minded developers and schemers to use the AI trend to their advantage.

Basically what they do is draw in investors into their ecosystem and then use them as a means to accumulate the coins resulting in a pump in price and the suddenly dump it leaving the creators and schemers in profit and the uninformed regular investor in loss.
This is because if most of these coins aren't a business scheme then I see no reason for advertising them.

AI is just a trend just like we had NFT and Ordinals trending in the past and so many tokens were launched in that direction. "This one too shall pass" and many people will make money but more people will lose money trying to cash out using the trend.

Unfortunately, this forum does not see those as violations as anyone can create whatever and shill them in the appropriate sections to reach their targeted audience. It is up to you to either join them or ignore those sections like most of us are doing.

Yeah AI themed altcoins are trending as the new narrative for 2025, so it's no surprise there are many threads about AI altcoins.

In the past... Ordinal had a lot of hype on this topic.
Back then... NFTs so many posted NFTs that someone put in a proposal for an NFT board.
Anything else? Of course there are many.

~snip~

Some of the topics you listed were actually started by members who were already tagged as shills, some just by members who are fascinated with AI technology and altcoins. On this forum there are hundreds or even thousands of profiles that create fake discussions with the aim of shilling anything and everything - and there are even members of the forum that offer such services.

To make the parody even greater, shills use AI to shill AI projects Roll Eyes

Yep, though I don't believe I've seen another trend as prevalent as this one.  If you take a look at all of these stupid kawpow clones, take note of how many of them have "ai" somewhere in their name:

(alright, I count 6, which isn't a huge percentage of the total number, but some of those coins have been around since well before the AI craze began)

And there's also a few CPU-mineable coins that seem to be AI-based using ghostrider, so if I had to guess people are blabbing about it so much because they're holding or mining one of these shitcoins that's going to end up either in the graveyard or trading for 1 satoshi on some godforsaken exchange in about 9 months.

Usually it works like this:
The creator of these projects hire freelancers from upwork and Fiverr to shill their projects in different platforms. Bitcointalk is included among all other platforms. Go to fiver and check with a keyword like bitcointalk, you will find all sorts of creative services and the providers have good rating too.

Thanks, now I have an idea how it works. But if it’s obvious shilling, doesn’t that violate the forum rules or the unwritten standards, if we have?

For those who took the time to reply "thank you all..
I know that they’re riding the hype, but my concern is about these shillers constantly posting. I believe some of the projects they promote might be scams, which puts people especially newbiesat risk. Many of them are here because of the bull run hype and might not know better.

Also, I’ve heard others say the forum doesn’t moderate scams, but I just brought what I think is alarming.
So pardon me if its not necessary.

This does not need segregation. Altcoins are altcoins. You do not need to differential them. Altcoins boards are boards for altcoins discussion. But if you see any thing that is from scammers or related to scam, you can just report it. This is not the first time altcoins are heavily discussed on the altcoins boards. Make your own research and avoid scam.
