I think it is necessary to clarify the situation a bit.
Firstly, there will be no nuclear war because every Russian official (I mean EVERY) has real estate in the US or his kids studying in the US or his money in the US banks or his ex-wife lives in the US and I can continue.
Secondly, everything Putin says is designed for the local public. All this is solely to distract people from real problems.

And it works perfectly - using the image of the external enemy/competitor to distract people from the country's internal problems never fails.

I think there is nothing wrong with two super powers always at each others throat. It in some ways balances out the threat of just one super power..

I don't see Russia being anymore of a threat than America if you have oil.
We have to respect the fact the methods in which Russia speaks about war is direct, whilst America will always disguise their war mongering as freedom fighting, liberating...

The world and its capitalist resource based economy is more connected than ever before, we all work and live in different countries and we all have business which expands our own boarders.. I don't think a globally connected world needs to have a WW3, if you wanted to cripple the west you could do it by just crashing/hacking the whole NY, UK stock markets.

Our cyber existence is our WW3 battleground. IMHO

Agreed - there will not be WWIII as we imagine it to be, as it's going on right now - in cyberspace and covert operations. The governments are well aware how people will react if war is officially declared, at the same time they just can't ignore each other.

War has indeed changed, and modern conventional military force is residual, as it can work in its older fashion only when deployed in the developing countries. Superpowers are not for open confrontation apart from mutual accusations and argument - people at power aren't fools, they understand the possible outcome of total (nuclear) war.

Statements like Putin's are just very loud and aggressive words that have only propagandistic value.

I hope so.

I suppose that due putting Putin`s name in quotes one may suppose that it is not only him that actually makes decisions, but the whole secret body or an organization that defines what to say and how to act while the president just presents it to the public. Conspiracy theory here, but far from impossible to my mind.
Vladimir Putin was about three days ago saying that Russians who die in a Nuclear War are going to be Martyrs and would be going to heaven and this has indeed brought fear to a lot people. Why the sudden talk of Nuclear War all of a sudden.

Yep, I'm aware of what's going on. My point was that statements like this are made not exactly by Putin / Trump / whoever else, but prepared by some group of people that decide what they should say. As I see it, it is not their personal opinion - they`re just public figures that say what they're required to say.

Yes. It certainly is. As if the world does not have any problems. He is creating another one.

Russia takes quite weird position thinking that the whole world is against it. It is, however, the other way around: Russia itself is against the world seeing every opposing country as an enemy.
Russian government feels vulnerable, that's the reason for such aggressive and bizarre statements. I only hope that these statements will remain just words used in political discussion and will never come true. Fallout vibes are great only in a computer game.
The saddest part is that many people fall to propaganda of mutual hatred. If you remember the World Cup in Russia last summer, the situation is quite the opposite. There seems to be no hatred among common people, although hatred is created and stimulated by government's agenda.

I don't really understand the need for you to put "Putin" in quotes but in any case. People do have to understand that the only way Putin is going to be able to make his people happy is by making them feel like Putin is this strong leader who's able to bully the countries around him (and other powers) into listening and caving to him. Crimea had nothing about the land, it was about gaining the support of the Russian people through winning something EASILY.

He's someone that is just trying to make his people happy, and while he's without a doubt misguided in the way he's going about it, it does look as if it's working (if the polls that they release aren't coerced, of course)

Albert's quote sounded very beautiful at the conference.
Indeed, if there is a 3rd World War, then the 4th will be with sticks in hand.
I think the 3rd World War will not start in the next 50 years

He is talking because he believes Russia is in a very fragile spot where other countries are constantly waging war and setting bases along their borders so Putin believes he needs to avoid World War 3 but won't step down if he deems it necessary.

Trump Hammers NATO. Good! Let's Get Out!

President Donald Trump started his European tour with a bang, accusing Germany of hyping the Russian threat to get US protection while sending billions of dollars to Russia for its oil. The Europeans are not amused. Fasten your seat belts!

It’s called propaganda. He wants people to be scared

Scared of death?  Smiling.. I think he want to control the world.
He knows himself that it's not possible to control the world especially when you have countries like USA and China around, I rather believe that he is making such utterances to deter people from even thinking about attacking him.

A world war 3 is in nobody's interest not the Russians nor the West and it will be in the interest of global peace and global brotherhood if leaders from both sides of the divide can stat thinking of ways of resolving the lingering bitterness between the western block and the eastern block
No one is willing to be the cause of a global incident that has the probability of wiping all lives of the planet and i believe Putin himself have lots to lose if he instigate and bring about the third world.

Nothing from this article made Putin sound unreasonable in my opinion. The only thing that I really didn't agree with was the last line about Russia building a doomsday device. I don't like that idea at all. Sometimes things malfunction and I don't want this doomsday device to malfunction, blow up half the world and then set the rest of the world at each others throats.

Guys, Putin is not a Russia. Russia is bigger than you can ever imagine.
Good people, like everywhere. But our president...
Like someone said: the fish rots from the head.
If Putin said WW3 it does not mean that our people fee the same way. Peace.

I'm not scared that Putin will start a war. He is smart and his warning shows he doesn't want a war.

Instability in the Middle East, lack of educational opportunity and poverty are the biggest risks.

People who are educated recognize the danger and risk of war.

Help the poor - If you help them have job opportunities, food, clean water, medical care, adequate housing, education for their kids and feel safe then
they have little to be angry or fearful about. Every human should have an adequate level of living and live in a safe environment.

I'm not saying poverty is the cause of war - but inequality often leads to wars.

I don't have a solution for the middle east - but I think less meddling by foreign powers there will help.

Russia has a strong military, especially its nuclear arsenal. One of the biggest advantages the Russians have over most of the world are submarines that can launch nuclear missiles. That's dam near close to impossible to defend against and the whole world knows it. But as a country, and a world-power, they are a shadow of what they once were because they spent all that dam money on the nukes. Those ain't cheap my friends. Guess who just figured that out? Rocket Man & Iran. It's not hard to get them stop building those because they are immensely costly to build, test, protect and maintain, etc, etc, etc. You can't just build them like an M5 and leave it sitting around. No sir. Way more goes into them than that!

Russia, they need to sound big and bad because on one level they are --the nukes-- and on the other level they are not --the ground war. Mostly they just like to scare the border countries so they can keep using them for whatever they want.

‘2 Israeli missiles’ strike near Damascus airport – Syrian state media

Two missiles have reportedly landed in the vicinity of Damascus International Airport, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.
It was not immediately clear if the missiles were intercepted or if they hit their intended target. There were also no immediate reports of any damage or casualties. Besides pinning the blame on Israel, Syrian state TV provided no further details on the alleged strike that took place on Monday night.

Damascus has repeatedly accused Israel of de-facto helping the terrorists and boosting their morale every time they lose ground to the Syrian government forces. Meanwhile, Israel, which rarely admits to its operations in Syria, maintains its right to intervene whenever it deems it necessary to thwart Iran’s growing influence and prevent the potential transfer of weapons to Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

Both the world war started in Europe. And if we are to start a third one, the cause should be Europe.

you will still have violence, or life will be about who gets most attention, and there will be constantly crypto ad propaganda,

so expect at least urban strikes, on chosen targets, in a urbanised world.

With the apparent influence that Russia has over the president of the united states, I don't think that's the usual contender, so I wonder who's against him, Russia is a war machine but if they keep upsetting enough people they will come together to put a halt at they actions

Because fear means control. If you can make the people to be scared of a "probable" war, then they are going to be unable to think about anything else.
Besides, probably the society will approve their country to spend a massive amount of money on weapons, one of the most profitable markets worldwide. A war is an economical exercise where the industry is dedicated to creating a war in some other country and then to sell the weapons, so they make a lot of money.
Putin has been into the "war speech" for years by now. By creating a new power, nuclear in the Russian case, they are mind-controlling other countries.

I have to say it is "Orwellian" to me: "The war is peace", used to write Geroge Orwell, based on the principle of the fear as a mechanism of mind-control.
Maybe he was too right.

"A third world war could be the end of civilization," Putin went on, saying the high stakes "should restrain us from taking extreme steps on the international arena that are highly dangerous for modern civilization." Perhaps more than any other country, Russia has the nuclear capability to end the world. With around 7,000 nuclear weapons, and the most diverse and destructive nuclear arsenal, Putin could unilaterally decide to embark on a civilization-ending war.

The US and other Western countries sanctioned Russia in 2014 over its illegal annexation of Crimea, a peninsula on the Black Sea in Ukraine.Russian President Vladimir Putin's annual call-in question show contained broad talk of improving Russia's economy, the upcoming soccer World Cup - and some ominous warnings about World War III.

Putin frequently frames his country as resisting Western aggression designed to hold back Russia, often citing Western sanctions on the Russians economy.

But asked about those sanctions on Thursday, Putin said they were "because Russia is seen as a threat, because Russia is seen as becoming a competitor." "It is clear to us that we have to defend our interests, and to do so consistently, not boorishly or rudely, in both the sphere of the economy and of defence," said Putin. "The pressure will end when our partners will be persuaded that the methods they are using are ineffective, counterproductive and harmful to all."

When asked whether "non-stop" sanctions could lead to World War III, Putin pulled an Albert Einstein quote to deliver a dark warning. He said: "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones," NBC News reports.
