I may write code in exchange for bitcoins.
It's a reasonable point, computers are notoriously pedantic.

Hopefully addresses in our profiles will be logged at some point as that seems like the perfect place to put them or have a history of addresses used there for easy access if you need to prove you own one. You also don't need to post one in off-topic but just use them naturally. You can also send them in a PM to default trust as they won't be deleted then.

It's actually DefaultTrust you need to send a PM to. (Not trying to be pedantic, just thought someone may do this after reading the thread).

maybe to recover your account with a signature when you got hacked or something?

Nope, that won't suffice unfortunately. Addresses need to be either in a message or a post. I think it would be a good idea to have them logged somehow to help with account recovery though.

That is very interesting and I was unaware of this.  Seems like a user concerned about this might ought to put a post up in off-topic with their btc address should it ever come in handy for account verification.

People can see it when they click on your profile. It's handy to have. Some people use bots to send payments to addresses listed there too.

There is no method to see the address nor to send funds to it.  Why is it there?
