It's pretty much at its all time low if we don't count the price it was at in the first month. Imho, since it still has an active and growing userbase, and the most media-attention of all altcoins, and is the second most-used coin for commerce, it probably is undervalued right now so I'm quite sure you could profit from it.

I actually did frequent dogecoin for a while, the sub reddit the chat etc but it felt too much like coinchat, and I have a nasty after taste from there. Plus what is the price for a dogecoin now? I hate to say it as much as I don't want this to be a "get rich quick" scheme and it's not, I need the money as much as I need the community.

It's quite more positive and light-hearted than Bitcoin's community tends to be.

However, it has less of the occasional brilliant economical, political, social or technological insights which can be found on Bitcointalk (but of course these are not totally absent either).

All I can say is, get out there and think of something that you can do. Most of the jobs available on the Services section of the Marketplace are going to be development jobs, or else people who want to rent your signature, but occasionally something matching your skills might pop up. You might even do what I did and auction advertising space on a blog if you have one. Or else hit Coinality and/or troll the really big established Bitcoin sites to see if they could use any freelancers or somebody willing to fill a ground floor position. It'll take time and a LOT of leg work to build yourself up to where someone's willing to take a chance on you, but it'll be worth it.

Just to answer OP question:

Created as response to distrust of banking system and government control over monetary supply. Originally, it was heavily advertised as a trustless currency.

Used largely as "protest currency," esp. earlier when Silk Road was relatively larger.

Most people with a number of coins are older and have seen or been victim of many scams.

Following Bitcoin exposes people to much more news on government meddling than they'd have seen otherwise, with friends and sometimes themselves faced with threatening letters and/or imprisonment. It's a world of difference in government exposure than seen working salaried jobs and filing an EZ every year. There isn't some ultra-high-trust company like Amazon you can buy everything from, either (though there's still a fair chance to be scammed on Amazon if you use third-party sellers).

You have to think for yourself in crypto and crowdfunding/charity/lending has died. Outside VCs, investment in general, I think, has largely died. You have to start at the bottom, work at something you may not like, then use that money to move forward. Otherwise, you'll need to learn to do everything yourself or find some friends at a Meetup who can compliment your skills. The "community" has changed quite a bit over the years, though some of this change, I think, is just from knowing BTC is valuable and likely to increase in value - very different than when BTC was <$5. I'd argue we already had our "AOL moment," too, so you probably aren't going to find actual community cohesion except with splinter groups (Meetup, Skype, IRC).

I don't know what "jobs" I could honestly do for bitcoin, what kind of jobs are there? At this point I'm desperate. I need to get home and get my life back on track, I need to get insurance (again) and healthcare and a bunch of other things. I need to prepare myself for this SSI trial which will probably go against me (not in my favor) and I need to just start living my life.

So if you have any advice at all it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey. Do jobs for Bitcoin. That's what I've always done when I need extra cash just to get me through the month. (Well, I didn't start taking Bitcoin until just recently, but the money ain't bad when you can get it.)

NO I agree, there are a lot of scams out there. There are a lot of people who are trying to swindle and cheat people out of their coins or money or whatever, that I can agree with. However it just makes a really bad impression on the people who actually do honestly need the money, or honestly need whatever. In this case, it just sucks that now it's gotten so bad with trust that in my darkest hour in the worst times of my life I can't even ask for help otherwise lest I am a scammer.

But I guess that's just the way the dice have been rolled for now.

I am skeptical. Maybe I have trust issues, but take a look around on this forum and you'll see scams everywhere.

And it's not just online. Take a look outside and you'll see people trying to cheat anyone they can just to better themselves. My world is not a friendly place. From the sound of it, neither is yours.

I'm skeptical, but that doesn't mean they're not lying/cheating.

Problem is I don't have a ball to get rolling, I doubt anyone would go for some kind of kickstarter/indiegogo type bitcoin related thing, because everyone here is so skeptical about what would happen to their money. Based on just trust and helping a fellow man alone they couldn't just say "hey this guy needs help let's go help him" I mean at this rate, I would take mBTC that's how desperate for a little bit of money I am just so I could HELP OTHERS (and myself to some extent) get better. 3 of my family members have cancer, I want to help them get better, I want to help myself get better. That should be word enough, should I hold up a sign or something to prove I am who I am?

Yeah, ditto. I'm just as happy to be part of the Bitcoin community even with the negative types hanging around. I'm like Quark from Deep Space Nine; I can put up with a lot of rudeness as long as I get paid. (And it doesn't hurt that Bitcoin is going to help me pay for some grand plans I have if I can just get the ball rolling with it. That's my problem, getting the ball rolling.)

as you know in this world is divided into two possible positive and negative current levels of awareness people have started to decline it is causing a lot of people that skepticism toward others, so no need to be upset with it if you feel it's right why should ignore it as such, I believe there must be people who care about you even though she may not respond to your posts

So you have to talk to me I'm really happy being part of the bitcoin world. Before I got into this I had almost no cash, just enough to buy a few beers and get drunk watching a movie. Bitcoin helped me get back on the horse.

So, we have a community of psychopath and sociopath that dominate bitcoin community.

Why is everyone so negative? Every post I've made about bitcoin has a slew of people I've had to ignore because not only are their answers un-productive but completely negative and nasty. I didn't ask for my situation, this is something that happened to me. I'm not going to go into full detail about it because frankly it's my business. Long story short, I got evicted, I was in a car accident, I was diagnosed as disabled with severe panic and anxiety disorder with agorophobia, I'm fighting the state to try and get SSI which I probably won't get because they told me I wasn't "disabled enough". I mean what's with the negativity? Do people really need to be so skeptical? I don't know what the problem is, but it's a little old and annoying really. I want to hear positivity right now, I want to hear good news, I have THREE relatives right now dealing with some form of cancer.

Anyways, please if you don't have anything nice or constructive to say to me, please don't say it. It's not worth my time getting angry at internet trolls when I have precious time with family members, or trying to get my life together.
