Bitcoin mixing is basically about privacy, while blockchain promotes privacy to it's highest levels, it also makes every transaction accessible to anybody who cares to look, while your identity is not tied to your transactions, anybody can view every transaction you make and many people do not like this so they use bitcoin mixers to mask their transactions.
And other people use that if they are hiding something and they don't want to reveal where the balance came from. Even gamblers use this mixer so they can convert it to Fiat easily without being questioned where the balance came from before they convert it to fiat because some exchange has strictly rules against gambling.
If someone is not comfortable with sharing his holdings then it is better to not put pressure on him. It is not like he is begging for the fiat, he is giving away his asset for the conversion. If gamblers hide the source of money they get, the most affecting factor is the image gamblers have in this world. Nobody really respect them and they don't want to be tagged. Everyone has the right to protect his dignity.

I know you are curious about the use of the bitcoin mixer, it is used to disappear the traces of transactions that are done and to hide all the activities of the elements, of course the main mixer also allows us to remain anonymous, the transactions are also mixed so that it disappears and cannot be accessed by anyone, Overall cryptocurrency in general fundamentally promotes our anonymity and transparency

I am for anonymity, but I do not really like mixers because their frequent customers are money launderers, hackers, and other criminal elements.
This cryptocurrency free market is free here, everything is possible here.

But I think everything will agree with me that scammers, scammers, deceivers in the crypto industry very much damage the reputation of both the crypto community and the cryptocurrency as a whole.
In this case, the mixer acts as an excellent tool for hiding the activities of criminal elements, and I do not like it.

However, it is obvious that the very existence of mixers is not the cause of criminal activity.
Mixers allow you to remain anonymous, but if there weren’t crime, ordinary people wouldn’t need anonymity, because they need it first of all for security.

While Cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology in general fundamentally promotes anonymity and transparency, that transparency can be too much for certain people especially people who tend to move a lot of money online, while there are no names attached to bitcoin wallets, it would be easy to link a face with a wallet with the right resources so people tend to use mixers to mix their funds so it cannot be traced back to them or linked with their identities, it doesn't mean that they are doing something illegal, it simply means that they are doing everything possible to preserve their anonymity.

Does anyone still think Bitcoin mixers are working? This is completely bullshit. Someone who wants to follow you can do it in an easy way.

If you don't really want your cryptocurrencies to be tracked, you need to use privacy coins, like Monero, Zcoin etc.. This is the only way you can stay anonymous while you make a cryptocurrency transfers.

Yes and this is not completely bullshit. How can someone follow your coin if it is swap to coin? Let's say someone following your coin via blockchain then you send it on mixer. Do you really think that they can follow where will be your new token to be sent since a new coin will gonna use and your old coin will remain on mixing wallet?

I will just believe in you that it is completely bullshit if the user of the mixer will use same wallet address to send and receive the coin.  Grin

most often people do this in order to hide some dubious purchases or payment for dark services. but it’s also possible that people simply don’t want anyone to know who owns the bitcoin address

Mostly, those that have a very huge holdings of bitcoin are using mixer. But in my opinion, why should we mix if we can directly transfer funds? Because is some way it induces the feeling that what they are doing is illegal, except for the fact that funds from gambling relies on mixers to still be deposited in exchanges in the market. So, if you don't have a fishy transaction, there's no need for you to mix your bitcoins.

Please I may not be the only lame man here I've longing to know why People typically use bitcoin mixers to mask any previous "questionable" transactions from the bitcoin that they are likely cashing out in their real name. Now let me know about purpose of mixing bitcoins.
It's a way to stay anonymous and use bitcoin anonymously, but waste of time and effort. The whole point of Bitcoin is that it's stored on a universal ledger that everyone has access to, as opposed to private servers that communicate with each other, such as banks. you are exposed by either buying them with a bank account or cashing them out with a bank account. you maybe not know that a FBI’s special agent claimed that they were able to de-mix funds moved through a bitcoin mixer and traced the funds to the admins in real life. Hence, the only truly anonymous option for untraceable Ccrypto purchases is Monero now.

As a advise, if you want to mix up a couple BTC, you just find some BTC dice sites. Trusted ones at that, send btc there, make a couple small bets and withdraw. They'll send you back different coins. Also works with a couple exchanges. don't trust any mixer out there.

you didn't ready carefully he said, that when they cash out they reveal they real name, in the end, so why mixing, if you that cash to buy something that expose your identity anyway? i could understand mixing if you DON?T cash out and buy with bitcoin, but in this case it look stupid
You don't understand what he is asking and you are the one that don't read carefully. He used the traditional way of cash outs as an example providing information/identity. And that's why using mixing service is an advantage to those that does want to keep themselves anonymous.

And you didn't even gave an opinion about the question of op about what is a bitcoin mixer. Using that cash is out of the question, we're only dealing with the use of mixers.

Of course it wasn't design for criminals, but the thing is that they take advantage of this mixing services around and that's why it has given bad reputation in crypto in general.

I personally used mixing services to hide myself from everyone, and enhance my security and privacy in this crypto sphere. However, for those who are really paranoid about their privacy, its better to move to privacy coins such as Monero and not used a tumber services, in my opinion.

Some exchanges also don't let you spend your Bitcoin at certain places for some reason; one popular exchange I see that limits where you're allowed to spend your coins is Coinbase. The site explicitly states in their User Agreement which you can access by clicking here that you're not allowed to use any crypto obtained from the site for gambling:

Gambling: Lotteries; bidding fee auctions; sports forecasting or odds making; fantasy sports leagues with cash prizes; internet gaming; contests; sweepstakes; games of chance

Mixing helps you bypass this by hiding the trail of where your funds are going so exchanges can't snoop into what you're doing as closely. It's generally a good thing that others don't know exactly where or how you're spending your money as well.

The bitcoin transactions are public, not anonymous by design that is where the "bitcoin mixing" comes in.
The bitcoin mixing is designed to help make the bitcoin transactions fully anonymous, secure, and untraceable by anyone.

They just wanna keep their privacy and is this a problem? The main role of the mixer to eliminate your real address that already used to send bitcoin. Some people are thinking their privacy matters a lot.
That's why they have managed to mixed their address to get the best privacy and they don't wanna get traced by unknown person or scammer maybe.

Bitcoin mixers are useful and at the same time are an unnecessary thing. They are needed for the convenience of cleaning up their unwanted transactions. But man nothing not prevents create more wallets for themselves and under every might to appoint tasks. Mixers few people use as frequent cases of fraud with this tool.

why didn't you post your real name, address and bank account balance here on the forum? is your actions "questionable" because you wanted to keep your privacy?
And this is the reason I have shades on my windows, because I like my privacy whether I'm doing anything wrong or not.

I haven't used a mixer, tho as I have never seen the need to.  That's me personally and I have nothing against anyone else using them because I understand the desire for financial privacy.  It is such a rare thing these days with all transactions using debit or credit cards being peeped at by who knows who, and bitcoin itself isn't even completely anonymous.

It is a good thing mixers haven't been made illegal...yet.  There were several that shut down not too long ago, tho I forget which countries they operated out of.

Using mixers is just another option. It isn't bad after all. Mixers fill the gap on bitcoin anonymity. So basically there is no need for other coins to use because in bitcoin you can end your tracks with these mixers. Autocratic governments will be more against bitcoin when these mixers becomes a crypto trend.

When its mask transactions assume that some of these transactions are malicious, and were pretty sure we know whats going on there. In my opinion these undocumented bitcoin transactions are probably involved in illegal activities, money laundering or can be used by rogue nation to avoid sanctions.

Improved Anonymity is another reason why people mix their coins. I believe the mixed coins can be used peer-to-peer without providing ones real name. You can safely do peer-to-peer transactions with fellow countrymen within thesame country
Bitcoin transaction isn't really anonymous, that is probably why lots of people use mixers. Privacy/anonymity is legal in many countries as far as I can tell

That traceability factor is the reason why many (got no statistics for this) are availing and paying mixing services from reputable providers so that their transactions can't be traced by anyone.  I once used a mixing service in 2017 just to get the experience of it and I think it is fine for me. Actually, I am not concern with privacy since I am not involved with huge Bitcoin transactions and my county is not yet strict on collecting crypto-based taxes, that is I just used mixing service one to satisfy my curiosity. The fee is not that noticeable so maybe this is one reason why people are into blenders/mixers. My recommended mixer service provider is ChipMixer which is quite known in this forum.

Can you move this thread to bitcoin discussion boar? It is not belong here IMO.

To answer your question, it seems like depend on yourself. If you have a problem with your transaction history, I mean your transaction don't want to be seen by others then the mixing service is the solution. Because sometimes I believe you will get a situation where your daily activities on cryptocurrency (bitcoin) be solicitous to secretly, yeah you deserve to use it. You may need to learn more about bitcoin mixing service, there are some threads who discuss this issue, you can the feature of search on this forum.

For cutting the tracks and making anonymous transactions BTC mixers have done an amazing job. Some exchanges don't accept the gambling site related cryptocurrency transactions and mixers come to help us at this point. The lost credibility of few BTC mixers can create unanswered questions on minds but I have never been cheated by reliable mixers like Chipmixer, Fixedfloat.

Bitcoin transaction is transparent and traceable, with the use of mixer, it is said that it  "covers" the transaction history of bitcoin when it passes the mixer.  Many use it for anonymity, privacy stuff, so that the receiving end will not detect where this Bitcoin came from.  Several online casino gamblers uses this service to cover the traces that Bitcoin came from gambling, since there are exchanges that do not accept funds from gambling casinos

Anonymosity is very special to individual specially if you got a transaction that includes a huge amount of money. Erasing your identity is crucial since typically those who have transactions with huge amount of money are attention grabbing for hackers. It is safe to say that knowing the transaction itself by you and only you will take you far away from hackers. Besides, your money is secured and your life as well. Although they are cashing out the money by their real name but at least they are away from tracking in the means of sourcing out their funds or whatsoever it is.

It's because bitcoin transactions is not completely anonymous. And in order to achieve that complete anonymous features, user may wanna use bitcoin mixers to mask the identity for different personal reasons. For them, using bitcoin mixers will protect their privacy. Identity remains a secret, if there is a dark reasons why they want to use it or not. We can't really know.

You may wanna watch this video regarding bitcoin mixers. It stated some advantage of it.

As you know, this is the best way to preserve secrecy and lose track. It can be used for legal or illegal business, but being used for illegal business does not mean that it is useless. Actually, it is our right to protect our privacy, and why not use it? Mixers are not the reason for illegal business, they just provide the service, how you use it depends on yourself.

You have already given one reason why people mix coins: to obfuscate the trail. Some view coin mixing as something unethical as it’s a gateway towards money laundering and other illegal stuff while ignoring the fact that Swiss bank accounts exist in plain sight. Coin mixing is just a way to further hide your identity and protect your privacy from watchful eyes and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I'd suggest you do some research beforehand. Not all mixing is done to mask "questionable" transactions.

For instance, whales who wish to protect their own privacy may choose to use such mixer services. Or, people may be concerned that coins that they receive is tainted previously by someone completely unrelated to them. Mixing increases privacy, and thus increases the fungibility of BTC as a currency.

You could also try Dash/XMR/ZEC where they are anonymity centric, although the hype for these coins have died down drastically.

As you may know, BTC transactions can be traced, and you have to verify your identity on pretty much all exchanges these days. So, if you withdraw BTC from the exchange to your wallet, there is a connection between your name and said wallet. From there on, the coins can be sent to other wallets or exchanges, and it is pretty easy to trace them further. Mixers make this impossible by mixing the coins of users and allowing them to withdraw coins to wallets and still remain anonymous. Basically, you can trace the withdrawal to the mixer. From there on, no one knows which coins are yours, especially if you split them into a smaller group. Think of that image of a ray of light entering the prism and exiting as a rainbow — only one or two colors are your money, but there is no way of telling which ones.

There are many reasons regarding this and some of them are afraid of being tracked by criminals or hackers. If I want to cash out a thousand Bitcoins, it is very likely for me to do that to keep myself safe. OK if you don't mix your coins, you can easily be tracked because of blockchain (which is public), so your privacy is somewhat breached, which is one of the main reasons why people wanted to be in crypto sphere in the first place, hide their wealth.

So if you used mixing services, you somewhat obfuscate your identify and improved your anonymity.

that is the same with bitcoin mixing. bitcoin is not anonymous and many don't want any Joe on the internet snoop around in their wallets to see how much bitcoin they own, where they spend it,... so they use mixers.

Cryptocurrency users use crypto mixers to cut the tracks of your crypto transactions or coins. They are basically designed to improve crypto anonymity. Without mixers, crypto transactions could be traced. The blockchain presents all the transactions to the public. Everyone can view the movement of a certain coin, which address it came from and where it goes, and then moved again to another one, and so on. With a mixer, it is given a dead end.
