I read some signature campaign about BTC mixer. I never try, but seems this is a good opportunuty for privacy. I would understand more about this kind of service and how BTC mixer are safe. Any Mixer user could explai me his experience and his suggestion?

When you steal coins or you want to buy some illegal stuff on the darknets you need to mix your coins.

Actually you can legally use it to avoid taxes legally. You can go through loopholes and also for privacy reasons since the blockchain is not private. A bigger private company might use it to protect their customers.

It is only necessary for privacy to obscure illegal activities. Otherwise, you are trusting bitcoin to a third party for no good reason and paying a fee for the privilege.

I also use a mixer btw, when sending Bitcoins to my cold storage wallet Smiley
Not involved in any illegal activities
That is a good point about mixing coins before sending to cold storage.
Do you have a site which you recommend?
I'm planning on moving some stuff to a paper wallet and would consider mixing before I moved them to storage to make it harder for someone to trace.

I've always used Bitblender through Tor.

I know there's that one site bitmixer.io or whatever that I see in some users' signatures, you might want to look into them, but I personally have no idea if they're decent or not so you'll have to take what I say with a relative grain of salt.

Why you would want to send your Bitcoin through a mixer before you send it to cold storage is kind of strange to me, but I guess it works if you really don't want someone watching your funds.
Call me paranoid, but I like some anonymity for the addresses that have more than, say, 10 BTC on them Smiley
Who knows, laws might change, Bitcoin might become illegal, who knows?

Much people who use mixer want to clean their dirty coin or another illegal stuf. So i think use mixer is bad idea if you want mix our clean coin cause you will get dirty coin.

Apart from those freshly mined, all coins are going to have a fraction of traceable dirt on them. It's a borderline certainty that we've all got Silk Road coins somewhere. That's why this blacklisting stuff is so silly.
This doesn't matter though, right? I mean the FBI still auctioned off those coins they seized from Ross and I'm sure it's not illegal to spendcoins that have been used for illegal purposes, if you did not partake in those illegal activities.

Only the person who are really involved in illegal activities like hacking others wallet and stealing coins or buying illegal products only dont wanted their address should be tracked other than this no other normal user will want to use mixer by paying high fees uselessly.

If only the ones really involved in illegal activities are using mixers, there would be no use of mixers at all as you get somebody else coins involved in illegal activities instead. So this would not help you to use mixers at all if you wanted to get some 'clean' coins not involved in illegal activities before.

You get somebody else coins because this is how mixers work, you send Bitcoin to mixer and you recieve another Bitcoin sent to mixer long ago by somebody else, there is no other magic involved. So I would adwise to use the coin mixers with caution, because you never know what coins you really get.
The purpose mixers are trying to serve is to try to increase the difficulty of people trying to track the coins. There is no reason for anyone to get clean coins since there is no use for it. A mixer simply mixes the coin with others and since they are mixed, no one can accurate match the destination address and the origin address. Nearly every coin you receive from services/exchanges are likely already tainted somehow.

Actually, if you want clean coins, you can find a service which buys the coins from the miners in exchange for the customer's coins. I can't recommend any since I haven't tried any of them.

There are plenty of reasons to use one, many of them legit. It seems like a shame you have to do such a thing to shield the use of your own coins for perfectly legal activities but there you go.

I for example use a mixer because of when I use a service to buy Bitcoin instantly, I want my coins to be out of sight as the coins that I have bought have my details attached to it.

And that's exactly the reason for me to use a mixing service as bitmixer to get fresh coins that I can send to my cold storage, or to spend it somewhere.
Means bitcoin's transaction is not that anonymous as what other people think? Is it really possible to identify the dox of the user using his coin? How could it be?
The problem is this :

If I buy and withdraw coins from the exchanges where I am fully verified at with all my details, the coins that I send to my wallets will have my details attached to it.

From there the exchange can follow these coins and even find out to where I am sending them to.

That's not even the worst part, the worst part is that the exchange in question can play all this information to the government if they force the exchange to do so.

Basically, if someone has access to your bitcoin address, they can see all your transactions. If they have a way to link your personal details (name, address) to your bitcoin address, they can in essence see all your transactions. A mixer basically sends all your money to another address you own. It does not make your money untraceable, but extremely hard to.

Hiding your address from some who want to track your transaction, it's the main point of using a mixer and sending to a various bitcoin address. and keep your privacy from everyone to check your address historical.

Just as you said, mixers are good opportunity for privacy and that's just about what mixers is all about. It will definitely give you some relief from having anxiety about people stalking you. When your anonymity is your biggest concern then mixing services will ensure that with some additional layers.

But in practice, bitcoin mixer is widely used by criminals who get bitcoin from illegal activities and selling of contraband (drugs). And in my view, people rarely use bitcoin services mixer to protect their privacy. Because for people who have no problem why fear for stalking, but to criminals it is very dangerous because they can be traced to their identity and imprisoned. So privacy, just as an excuse.

If you read this thread thoroughly, then you will get some better picture on the use of bitmixer. If you don't want anyone to trace your identity after you sell your coins or buy something, then you can use these mixtures. It is good to use if you're mining your won coins.

You would not know that the bitcoins you have received, were gained from some illegal actions, so you use this service to tumble it a bit, and to clean it for your use. In the end, you will need to justify your actions and if it was not for criminal intent, you would be fine.

I mix my coins, because I want stronger anonymity for my savings. Why would you want everyone to simply follow your money to your primary cold storage and make that the target for hackers? See mixers as a extra level of protection. ^smile^

Why should I mix my coins?

it is not all about scamming people or wanting to hide your illegal activity. if i am not mistaken it was BurtW who got arrested and was forced to pay a lot of legal fees to prove he is not a criminal just because he used bitcoin

edit: there you go

So in essence remains the same, right? after I read the explanation of Bitmixer.io if we use their services, we still have to provide the original address for the purpose of sending the goods?

And I have already explained above that you feel you could be interrupted if the transaction being traced or your bitcoin balance in the view of many people, I suggest using any addreas only for one time use. I think with this we do not necessarily have to mix our bitcoin. We know when bitmixer.io being used by a corrupt person who was washing his money, then our bitcoin will also be mixed with the illicit money, right?

I actually know less about the case because of the language used by the authorities is very confusing. But broadly I think BURTON WAGNER arrested for violating laws that apply in the US. Although we know bitcoin decentralized but when we conduct bitcoin transactions in violation of applicable laws I think it's wrong. In other words if your country prohibits using bitcoin and there is legislation in force, then we should avoid using bitcoin. Thank you,

But should we say that BTC without mixer aren't anonymous?

no.
bitcoin anonymity has nothing to do with mixers.
you can be totally anonymous as long as the bitcoins in your address is not linked to you personally.

for example you can buy bitcoin with cash and receive it in your bitcoin address, that way nobody can know this address is for "you"

But you could trace BTC at everytime on blockchain and it's really difficult to buy large amount of BTC per cash in a lot of country

you can trace the bitcoin, but you wont know who owns that wallet. in the end, it still have some anonymity.

Once you find the wallet of the Bitcoin though it's just an issue of lack of information and stalking could eventually provide that. Everyone feels paranoia, for some paying the mixing fee is necessary to keep their lives private so that's what they do. At least that's why I can see people mixing their coins.

After reading all replies i came to one conclusion that to hide the transaction details of the bitcoins address they use mixer, but still their is one question? that is when bitcoin is a anonymous transaction which cannot find the real user and cannot know who the owner is every thing is hided in the transaction as when creating the wallet we are not giving our address or any type of identity.

My question is when the bitcoins transaction itself is not traceable then what is the use of mixer, just to others should not know about your address transaction you are using mixer paying so much high fees , i dont see any type of logic in this. Only the person who are really involved in illegal activities like hacking others wallet and stealing coins or buying illegal products only dont wanted their address should be tracked other than this no other normal user will want to use mixer by paying high fees uselessly.

yeah it can be traced and yeah it is hard to buy large amount of bitcoin with cash, but my point is something else.

take this scenario as an example for 100% anonymity.
you meet someone face to face and pay him cash and he sends BTC to your address lets call it address1 and you use that BTC to pay for a service to address2, lets say you buy a VPN with your BTC now anybody who is tracing the transactions sees bitcoin coming in address1 from some source and goes out to address2 the only thing he can get out of his trace is (with a low chance) the owner of address2 and sees the funds were spent to buy a VPN.
and in all this your identity was never revealed.

Usually it's illegal to buy large amounts of bitcoin with cash.

It has lots to do with mixers. Good mixers ensures that the funds are not spendlinked to an address in question. If it is spendlinked, one can potentially link all the transaction together. At some point, you may somehow reveal your identity by sending the coin to a site that requires ID verification. If you don't mix your coin, you can consider it as at most pseudonymous.

Bitcoin mixers are like a VPN for your coins if I could use this comparison. Mixers can be used to obfuscate the identity of the original owner of the coins for illegal or legal purposes. There are people interested in doing shady deals online but there are also overzealous privacy buffs who just do that because they want to be 'extra' sure. In a nutshell users of mixing services don't want to be followed and don't want the origin of their coins to be traced back.

Yeah i agree with you, because I think if we get a bitcoin legally why bother paying more for bitcoin mixer. And plus if the reason is a transaction that is anonymous, I think just by using one address for one transaction only your identity will be safe and your privacy will remain intact Smiley

You only need them if you don't want your final bitcoin account to be linked to the one where your public account is linked to.

Say you got coins in a signature campaign, but you don't want people to know that you still have those coins. You can send them to a mixer and get untainted coins back.

There is a slight problem though, people can track the amount of coins send. If you mix 1 btc for instance, and you pay a fee of 0.01 btc (standard), you end up with 0.99 btc. Those can still be linked to you.

It's not always about illegal activities like some users say here, but someone sometimes doesn't want others to keep tracking his coins so he want to move to a cold wallet or somewhere else where nobody wants to know and this is about privacy.

I read some signature campaign about BTC mixer. I never try, but seems this is a good opportunuty for privacy. I would understand more about this kind of service and how BTC mixer are safe. Any Mixer user could explai me his experience and his suggestion?

if you don't understand why you need a mixer then most probably you don't need to use any of them ever.

mainly there are two reasons for using a mixer, one is the obvious that may come first to your mind and that is about hiding something because you did some illegal transactions that you wish to stay anonymous.

but most of the usage is for people who want to improve their privacy and keep things anonymous so they can prevent any random guy on the internet being able to follow where they get their bitcoin and where do they spend them.

wow nice thread mate it is very helpful especially for us that doesn't have time to use this service know i understand the service and why we should use it and how we can securely depend on it, the logic was to keep you away to be track especially by the hacker and keep yourself secret from your investment, i really appreciate those known members who gave time to answer this one for us.

Thanks for reply, but how safe are Mixer? Is there any involved risk ? Huh

It is safe to use. Because they are not investment site. They just offering to exchange your coin to their coin in the bank and charged you some fee.

So that your bitcoins cannot be track by the hackers out there. Because it is dangerous especially when you got a high amount of btc to be transact. A hacker can easily map your bitcoin and get it once you let down your guard. Thats the purpose of mixer to change your unique coin to other coin

When you steal coins or you want to buy some illegal stuff on the darknets you need to mix your coins.

So mixer should be used only for illegal stuff?  Huh
Mixer can be used for legal stuff like protect your privacy or protect against illegal government behavior  Smiley
