I think if a newbie can't submit vote here on current forum system then should not be allowed here to create a poll too.

I created this new thread because our current voting rules looks conflicting to me

It isn't conflicting beside it'll be harsh of theymos to denial newbie the right to create polls. A project that needs community opinion can register on Bitcointalk and create a poll for community feedbacks but with your suggestion they won't have the privilege to do so since they're newbie.

The system is working just fine the way it's, newbie can create poll (for information, educational etc purpose) but can't vote (to avoid manipulation).

It only takes 6 weeks and a merit for you to be a Jr. Member who has voting power in a poll and you still think newbies here especially the ones with 80+ activity still has a right to vote in a poll? Don't you think that they stayed in that rank in a long time for a reason? And not one of those reasons is them being knowledgeable enough to be part on a poll voting.
Yeah that's why I mentioned my own opinion and being agree with our admins decission and its really important to stop voting manipulation. But If a newbie can't be able to vote then they should have a minimum rank achievement to create a poll IMO. They can easily get any information or knowledge by creating a thread i think.

For me it is right that they excluded newbies from participating polls, what if some member posted a topic with a poll on "What Altcoin is a hidden gem in the market?" and some person created a bunch of newbie accounts to vote on a shitcoin? It will misled a lot of persons especially the ones who are inexperienced in the market, they would think that since this altcoin has a lot of votes then a lot of people are maybe holding it and it is the perfect altcoin for them to hold. I don't like that idea at all, theymos is right that polls will be easily manipulated when that happen.

Newbies are restricted to prevent vote manipulations and allow users to have a fair poll, and newbies should not be denied that priviledge of having a fair poll. There is no argument for that. A poll can not be manipulated cause it was started by a newbie.

I have a question. Does copper membership remove the restrictions on voting for newbies?

The rule shouldn't be changed, it is good as it is now. It doesn't matter who created the poll, that's why any user rank can create one. What matters is to prevent manipulation of the results of that poll and the only way to do that is to prevent the creation of new accounts to submit votes with.

Pretty much what r1s2g3 said. Polls can be easily easily manipulated by people who can make multiple newbie accounts, as we wouldn't know as the usernames who voted in polls don't appear(as far as I know). We wouldn't know if the votes are legit or are rigged if newbies are allowed to vote.

On newbies creating polls, it's perfectly reasonable to enable them to. While it isn't really necessary to use polls most of the time, they can use polls to ask sort of beginner questions. e.g. "What hardware wallet do you prefer using?"; and then some.

This is a really good question. Personally, I do not see anything bad if a novice can create a poll in his topic and not have the right to vote. In this case, the manipulation is disabled. It is interesting to hear from more experienced users.

I am alive but in hibernation.
Simple. Do not allow newbie to vote in poll because somebody can create a tons of shill accounts to manipulate/vote in poll.

Why allow them to create a poll?
If they want some opinion, they are free to get it.

Hello Everyone,

Bitcointalk forum is a place where every single member have the freedom to express their own thoughts and ideas. But one thing that took my attention is that in this forum a newbie can't submit his/her vote on a poll. But he/she can open a poll. I think this rules should be reconsider by our forum admin @theymos.

Here is a thread link where a newbie feeling confused about his voting power.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.49876363

But I see here on the forum that newbie members are able to create a poll.

Here is the link:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/frozen-storage-bip-lockdown-mode-bip-etf-fasttrack-please-vote-in-poll-5111656

But its confirmed by forum admin @theymos that newbies will not be able to submit vote. You can see this here,

Previously, anyone could vote in polls. Now you must be at least a Jr. Member. This should make vote manipulation more difficult, though you should still not rely on forum polls for real accuracy.

I am agree with our admin decission that newbies will not be able to vote due to voting manipulation. But if they can't submit vote then why they should allow to create a voting poll.

In my opinion we usually see voting on democratic countries where without being a voter you can't be a candidate or a participant on their voting system. I think if a newbie can't submit vote here on current forum system then should not be allowed here to create a poll too.

I created this new thread because our current voting rules looks conflicting to me
