1070 is perfect sweet spot but I will suggest you to look for a 1080ti. Best performance to power draw ratio and future proofness

price per hash/sol i would say 1070 still owns the 1080 (not if you can buy it cheap) although 1070 is very flexible in terms of it can mine almost every algo unlike the 1080 having the GDDR5X but one more thing is the resell value of 1080 compared to 1070.

It depends where you live. This forum as people from all over the world. I can only get 1080's for $869 on sale with max quantities. While I can get 1070's at $559. It's a big difference. If it was only $60, then of course I would get 1080's.
Yes exactly. You have to do your own math based on what you can get at what price.
Also statements like "you can get so and so much sol/s with xyz card" are pointless unless you compare TDP figures too.
At 80% tdp my mining 1080's do approx 540sol/s.
My water-chilled 1080 in my PC does over 800 if I squeeze everything out of it...

It depends where you live. This forum as people from all over the world. I can only get 1080's for $869 on sale with max quantities. While I can get 1070's at $559. It's a big difference. If it was only $60, then of course I would get 1080's.

The problem with the 1080 is it uses GDDR5X memory, so it's limited in what it can mine effectively. GDDR5X isn't optimized for memory intesive algorithms like ETH. That's why at best you will get 25 H/s. They are relatively good for core dependant algorithms like ZEC. I have a single MSI GAMING X GTX 1080 mining ZEC at ~575 H/s with 75% TDP +130 MHz core and +1000 MHz  memory overclock with EWBF showing ~180 W. For Monero I get ~660 H/s t 45% TDP -200 core +1000 Memory.

Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $500 for a 1080, whcih is what I paid for mine. I can buy two RX 570 4GB cards for less than $250 each that will get 315 H/s on ZEC, 740 H/s on XMR and dual mine Ethash and DCR at 29 MH/s + 740 MH/s DCR for each card. Making the RX 570 substatially more profitable for less money.

If you get 575 sols on 1080 but 1070 getting around 480, so that means difference is only 8% here?
This is strange. So thats not 20% profit making difference as whattomine telling us.
Calculate it again Wink Its arround 20% more

Hello, can you share what hashrates / power consuption you have on algos you tried to mine?
Because I can buy 1070 for $540 or 1080 for $590.
Currently mining ZEC, 80% TDP = 850-875W at the wall.
I've overclocked core and memory for this, so for other - less mem dependent - algos, it's more like 800W.
what sols do you get on 1080 and 1070?

1080 is not good for ETH.
There are 1000 other coins out there.

@Vann: RX 570 is the king of profitability as long as you mine EThash or Cryptonight.
If you can't get them, or want to mine anything else, the 1080 is a great GPU.

1080 is naturally an upgraded 1070.
But the price of 1070 has dropped largely after 1080 came to market
and you can easily get 1070 around $400 in stores.

2.7$ and 2.14$ is 20% profit difference


And comparing GPUs prices 572$ and 512$ is 10.5% price difference.

So you will get here 9.5% profit per GPU for free.

So 1080 is better that 1070?

Maybe i missed something here?
