Indeed... GPUs have great re-sale and flexibility.

I mined years ago with Radeon 7950s and sold them easily after using for nearly 2 years... just had to replace fans on them.

I was wondering why the big boys like genesis mining do GPU mining instead of ASIC mining why you guys think? may be less profitable but more reliable in the long term?
depends, somehow ASICs may have longer ROI, but they are way stable and easy to use, while GPUs have wider specter of coins now and they will have in the future.
also depends when did you get let's say S9s or when did you get on the GPU mining train.. plus second hand GPUs from the company like Genesis wouldn't be a trash, they will sell it, refurbish, anyways they have paid themselves a long ago.

sorry I wouldn't trust any hardware coming from a place like genesis, talk about run hard and put away wet. plus absolutely no warrenty at least nothing that would garner as being worth it
Not only hardware, I wouldn't trust whole team. Buying refurbished GPU which was working 24 hour for someone's profit, will be useless. Using GPU means you can mine almost any coin (but some coins need only HDD like burstcoin). Also it's more easy to sell GPU and 99% it works on pc but antminers like s9 has a lot of problems even when they are fresh and officially shipped from bitmain + they worth a lot and it makes selling more difficult. Also when new antminer comes, people usually prefer buu that because difference between old and new model is very huge. On GPU everything is more easily.

Although GPU mining profitability is falling down enormously I think people who have bought an X11 or any other contract that they mine with GPU-s are protected. Genesis mining cannot play the usual junk excuse that it is not profitable to run your miner so we are turning it off. In GPU mining although profitability is little it is there for a long time. Big guys in the mining industry like Genesis mining want to diversify their portfolio in order to get more "customers". I would stay out on mining with them and rather build a PC to mine myself, it is of no importance how many GPU-s can you buy as long as you are in command and not relying on third party like Genesis.

Why do you ASSUME that the "big boys" only do GPU mining?

Actually this is not so true.
As you said there are some big players running a GPU farm, genesis mining is probably the biggest. They do not have to talk with ASIC producers, they can rely to known companies, they have warranty on components.
More importantly they are way more adaptable to mine coins, they can switch between many coins whenever they want.

Most of miners are still using ASIC, they are simpler to use, require less effort and managing time. Personally I hate ASICs.

I'm pretty sure the ROI on GPUs is a bit better than for ASIC miners. GPUs can be re-assigned to other currencies when mining currency X is no longer profitable. Once an ASIC miner is superseded by the next generation is basically junk that you can try selling on Ebay.

When you choose gpu in the mining of coin because digging with gpu will dig many types of coin almost all the coin is digging gpu. However, this will depend more on the diff the more people dig, the harder the difficulty will increase and you will be less profitable. I have an eth digger before digging it, I will be profitable after 6 months of capital but recently the digging of eth is getting bigger so the money you earn is pretty low for most if you want to make profit later. When you have paid to buy a digger is about 9-10 months this will make you depressed not to mention the value of copper you dig will vary quite a lot. So I switched to copper coin xmr this is digging with cpu so i will dig by vps this is pretty cheap but the profit it gives is extremely good

you can use GPU in other things.. unlike asics.. once the blocks are done.. you're done.. it's gonna be junk! asics are loud, hot, but have fast hashrates.
