Maybe because Bitcointalk isn't Reddit? Memes is fun thing, but dedicating whole category for it on Bitcoin forum isn't needed at all. If you have memes, you can post it on dedicated topic which was posted above. Also, even dedicated topic isn't needed. You can post memes on any other topic, but you should feel when it's right time and place to do it. Good example for it is Wall Observer topic.

I guess there should be a separate category for posting memes.  Lot of categories spread with scammers, spammers and trolling.
Few categories gives knowledge and healthy discussions. But there is no place for fun.

@theymos  , Please start a separate category for posting memes.

All those who want this category, Please vouch this post.
Will you be a quality contributor to this category ? At least, post some original memes here so that "theymos" might even consider this.

Threads like this one are best for memes, not necessarily separate subsections. With most memes, they're just for quick laughs and there's really nothing much to discuss (hence making separate threads mostly useless).

Secondly, i don't think we need a full category/section of Memes including bitcoin meme, altcoin meme, defi meme and NFT memes  Cheesy
I think there is not much data for meme and the above mentioned single thread is enough for the meme representation.

By the way, WO is a much better place to post the Memes as people there have much better sense of humor  Smiley

Aren't they already big?
Only in coinmarketcap you can find 21,247 crypto tokens/coins means 21,264 alts we have so far. This must be a big number unless you count the quality over the quantity. All shitcoins are more or less pump and dump schemes anyway.
Exactly most of them are pump dump scheme to manipulate the market as you can clearly find out that major portion of supply is linked to some main wallets and they paid influencers to shill their project on viewers and then dump over them in the market taking out their profits. It is easy to create shit tokens out of thin air and you can clearly see many on CMC so they all fall under this category only.

A whole section?  There's that one thread Mbitr mentioned, and I think that's more than sufficient.  I hate to say this, but it's almost like you're asking for there to be a kiddie's section of bitcointalk where finger paintings can be displayed, and if Theymos has ignored all the other requests for new section additions (NFTs, for example), there's no way in hell he'd go for this one.
There's no need to have a separate section for the memes because many will start spamming up the board with lot of meaningless memes and this forum is setup for open discussion about bitcoin and market as a whole. The memes can be limited to one or two particular threads only and you are right on the part that there are many updates that need to be implemented on the forum first by @theymos before he checks all this meme stuff. So probably not a good idea though in my opinion to have separate meme board for this.

it looks like there is already a thread on this board that contains the meme category. I guess that's enough, there's no need for a special child board for memes.

specifically, this forum is a discussion forum. maybe the use of memes can make the discussion atmosphere warmer. but I'm sure it's not necessary. the discussion may become very chaotic.

Memes have their place, of course, but you're the first member I can recall who's ever suggested them having any sort of space on the forum dedicated to them.  Ick.

Unless the altcoin industry grows big enough for the Altcoin section to be a bit too active, I don't think so.

In the first place as far as I know the BSV board suggestion wasn't specifically for BSV the cryptocurrency, but mostly concerning Faketoshi.
Yes it was.

I'd like to think that when it comes to an appropriate meme, no category is off limits.  Surely we've all seen memes used throughout this forum without people getting upset about it.  I myself am even guilty of using memes to poke fun at certain situations and users when ridiculousness ensues.

So I don't believe a meme category is necessary.  Just consider no category safe from memes and you'll be fine.

I think that posting memes much of the time will be against the rules, specifically the rule against posting no/low value posts. This is a discussion forum. As such, posts should be part of a discussion.

lol.

Maybe so, but much, if not most of the time, a meme isn’t going to contribute meaningfully to a discussion, especially when it is all that’s in a post.

I also don’t think it is realistic to have a discussion using memes. People could create memes for each post, but that would be bad for people who don’t speak English — it would be very difficult to translate the text on each picture.

What category are you expecting for memes? Hope not a board? You can just post your meme in the link Mbitr gave you.

If you want a board for memes, that is not going to happen because it is more than spamming would be what it would lead to. A single thread is enough for bitcoin meme.

I do not want anything like this.

Anyway, few days ago there was a discussion to have board for BSV, in future we will have demands for BCH then for all other cryptocurrency. We already have a board for Altcoin discussions.

I can't remember in which crypto forum (altcointalk may or something like that) I have seen a few hundred of boards lol and the feeling when I browsed the forum was horrible. I didn't anymore go to that forum. Do you want to have the same forum? With all these boards, the forum will be much crowding that a lot of people will have horrible feelings while visiting the forum. Right now, there are only a few boards necessary. LN board is one of them and I think that should be the priority.

Like Welsh said, a dedicated section just for memes would be taken as encouragement to post them, and it'll likely turn into a dumping ground for low-quality posts pretty quickly.

As a new user [1], OP can be forgiven for thinking that there's no appropriate place to be a goofball on Bitcointalk; that was my impression too, when I joined.

As mentioned above, there are already a few places on the forum where silliness is appreciated, and I'm sure OP will discover them over time (WO, etc.)

For some reason, I don't find Bitcoin memes nearly as funny as Bitcointalk memes; n0nce pointed out this one, which got me pretty good! Grin

[1] Account is from 2020, but posting only really began 2 days ago.

Memes are fun when used sparingly. A whole section would just encourage low level of spam, and lets be honest not many users would use it. Bitcoin only has a limited amount of memes anyhow. I think Reddit would be a better place for that type of content, as the way it displays posts suits it. Not necessarily a subreddit dedicated to Bitcoin, though. Maybe, a more meme centric sub reddit or maybe Twitter.

I'd say with a high level of certainty you won't be seeing a section dedicated to memes any time soon. This forum is primarily a discussion based forum.

I believe this Meme category will be a good addition to the forum as lounge for user that want some light and funny discussion.
This is not an image hosting forum like giphy. We are fine without having such board. Besides the bitcointalk meme topic is serving the purpose very well. I sometimes check the posts on that topic and laugh my ass off :-)

Adding to what mk4 and Mbitr mentioned, if you're going to make meme post as an icebreaker with a quite discussion running, you can just do it as it is in Bitcoin Discussion board, just add more content to the post if you can for a little bit of.....context.
Altcoins go to their respective board (Altcoin Discussion).
If it is non-crypto related meme, just do it in Off-Topic board. We do not need a "Meme" sub-board.

I think this topic is more suitable for Meta since this is about the forum discussion. And also most of the meme posted in the forum is on the Bitcoin WO or on off topic since moderator will count a single meme post spam if it was made on other topic besides off-topic or WO(or other board which no one cares about post quality) when user report it as spam. Paid post abused by shit poster is what makes the forum forced to removed memes or humor post on a discussion topic since this doesn’t add value on the discussion.

I believe this Meme category will be a good addition to the forum as lounge for user that want some light and funny discussion.
